OMG I'm so, so sorry!! My sister is in Hot Springs, not far from you. They were one of the lucky ones, flood waters stopped right at her front door. She spent the day making spaghetti for 100 people but although they don't think they had any casualties they are all devastated there as well.

$750 that people need internet, devices, and electricity to apply for. THEN, they have to be in the correct financial demographic to eligible. And they are not eligible if they have house insurance!!! THEN, they need to be able to access a bank or a ATM. As if any of them have flood insurance, or that insurance can buy food, socks, water, or anything more than a few days of real shelter -- if they could even get transport out. That $750 is an insult from someone who is a moron, at best, and a monster, at worst.

I live in the mountains of Virginia. Sometimes it rains in these hills. What happened last week was terrible and it's one of the worst we've seen but every 40 to 60 years major flooding occurs somewhere in the many valleys we have here. I like wearing my tinfoil hat just as much as you guys and I promise that I hate the gubment more than you do but sometimes things just happen for no reason at all. Sometimes it rains and sometimes water is wet.
With the average daily "aid" to Ukraine equally nearly 230 Million USD, it doesn't take too much imagination to see how that could help so many Americans hurt by this devastation. The government truly hates us,...they don't want to help.

In NC we have a democrat governor, Roy Cooper, who prioritized shutting down businesses and marching with BLM during Covid. I expect nothing less than dismal results from him. The national news is to busy trying to tarnish our Lt Governor, Mark Robinson, who is now running for Governor, instead of reporting on the horrors of what has happened and the neglect of democrat officials. Mark Robinson has been working with local sheriff departments and organizations and personally delivering much needed supplies since last week. Roy Cooper has been in Raleigh doing press conferences.
Cooper did come and do a fluffy photo op in our friend's front yard also, out of helicopters...Needless to say, there were lots of very unimpressed people near by to let him know that he was not welcome with his fake gesture of caring.
Mark Robinson will be our next governor!
A Governor who has very little power because of the Republican legislature, but then again the Governor of NC has had limited power. It is the State Representatives and Senators you talk to.

Our area is ravaged. I work at an electrical utility and many systems around us are a total re-build. Over a hundred billion to a foreign country, but silence on the lost lives, destroyed infrastructure (including electrical transmission lines and cell towers). The damage will far exceed 100 billion. Sick at my stomach.
I feel like the number of missing and dead are being massively underreported
I figured it will take 2 yrs just to fill the contracts making the required parts. We don't have enough on hand these all have to be manufactured.

My town has a small airport and within 24 hours our ex military and ex Delta pilots banded together, started "Bubble Lift", as they call it, and my whole town loaded all their private planes up with supplies and they have been flying back and forth to areas that they can access with their planes and which have not received aid.
My sister is in Hot Springs, NC, today she cooked spaghetti for 100 people because the flood waters stopped short right at their front door and a lot of their friends lost everything. She was watching buildings float down the French Broad.
I'm praying for all of you and I am so angry with how the government is just ignoring Appalachia and sending more money to Ukraine.

Writing this comment from a grocery store in Western North Carolina just so I can have wifi and make sure my friends are alive right now. Can confirm North Carolina's response for the mountains has been abysmal. As usual for times of disaster, they're ignoring us mountain folk to send aid to the State's richest in Raleigh and Charlotte, whose biggest problems right now are having to go a few hours (gasp) without high speed internet, and not being able to go get their nails done. Hundreds are missing right here and this State's atrocious Democrat government has just sent our national guard to the Middle East. To the government, we're just a bunch of dumb, bigoted hillbillies nobody cares about.
I wouldn't worry too much about us though. Southern Appalachia is the most impoverished region in the country. We're tough as nails out here, and we've been failed and forgotten by the government for so long that we're used to it, and have backup plans for our backup plans for scenarios exactly like this one. This storm was strong but our communities are stronger. All the men in my neighborhood have been going around with chainsaws all week cutting up fallen trees and clearing the roads, because we know damn well nobody cares about us, and if we don't help ourselves, nobody will. Us women have been boiling creek water to drink, bottling it up, and driving around giving it for free to those who need it most. Things are bad, but we've been ready for this for decades.
To anyone with family or friends in Western NC you can't get ahold of, I know it's scary, but take it from me as a local, they're in good hands. They're gonna be fine. We're all gonna be fine. #NCSTRONG❤❤

It doesn't help that people were bringing things to help but a few that I heard on TH-cam said that they were told to bring the stuff to different drop off places and it would be given out. There was one guy that loaded up and want to get stuff to people that would need four wheel drive to get it there. I'm sure he was aware that four wheel drive couldn't get every where but he was doing his best. He ended up getting told to bring it to a location. It sounded to me that he didn't have a choice. I'm going back thru what I watched to see if he was turned away. We have churches in Michigan that want to get a semi and load it up with necessities but the only thing I heard was they were not able to get answers. It makes me sick that there are people suffering, help needs to get there.

We have been working nonstop and everyone exhausted. So many people are missing. I talked to a line man who was maybe 20 who pull body’s out of power lines. This is life changing event people have lost everything homes loved ones pets and livestock. We will never be the same after this but maybe it’s time to make some changes in the country. I’m in East Tennessee and a neighbor to the small rural areas and I’m so glad to see how many of us have each others backs here. I just got back from running baby supplies and formula and the tragedy hurts but the uplifting is seeing the love we have. Thank you America!

Or do you know any independent news outlets that I might find more info to share? Everything and everyone is only focused on Asheville.
One of my colleagues lives in eastern Tennessee and she said that 700 people were missing in her area and that 46 souls were pulled from the river near her. She is extremely upset about how little help and coverage they were getting.
It's now 200 souls no longer with us unfortunately💔
I am in TN too and she is correct. People don’t even know that East TN is devastated. It looks like a war zone. NC is getting the coverage and that is wonderful but East TN is just as bad.

I've been following Hurricane Helene coverage these past three days, things just keep getting worse and worse, luckily more and more people are joining in the recovery effort, not a government official in sight.
Samaritan’s Purse (Franklin Graham’s Organization) is a great organization. They are there right now helping. Vote for trump.
Mercury One is also there and Glen Beck was there with them a few days ago
I am poor. But, I always give to Samaritian's Purse! If I were younger and more physically able, I would love to volunteer!
My family lives in northern Greenville county SC about 20 minutes away from the boarder. We were hit hard by Helene but no where near like NC and TN were. People are coming to our town to buy supplies to take to NC and the stories coming from the mountains are horrific. The government isn’t doing anything. Private businesses and groups are mobilizing to go to NC and are being ARRESTED! Thank you for talking about this but we need more people covering this!

My family and I also live in northern Greenville county on a farm in South Carolina. My house finally got power back on Wednesday afternoon and my grandparents and aunt and uncle’s house which is just around the corner from mine the power came back on Thursday evening. Our church is donating to Western North Carolina, Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Just please keep everyone in your prayers as well involved in this Hurricane. It’s been very difficult for my family and I as well.

Great work! We're in east NC and we love the mountains and hope to retire there on a lot we are slowly improving. We want to go back there as soon as possible and do what we can do. Right now its closed for first responders and emergency /utility workers and I support that but where the hell is FEMA and why is their bank account empty... floating illegal criminals high life on their American Vacation. It is costing lives. Where are the military. NC has hundreds of helicopters and years of rations that will be thrown out. This is terrible. Kamala wants more funding for Ukraine and Israel so they will get 500B and NC will get $750 bucks. FJB and FKH
Why hasn’t the Marine Corps been called? They called the National Guard, which is nothing but weekend warriors. They’re not trained in serious rescue missions.

There are people right now as I’m typing this desperately in need of life and death rescue ! It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I’m in Charleston where we had hurricane Hugo 35 years ago and that is what they did.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. The National Guard has the same training as active duty and is geared specifically for domestic crisis deployment. It’s also under the authority of State Governors so it can be deployed more specifically and rapidly than active duty soldiers who are federally controlled.
I agree more boots are needed. But I don’t agree with your assessment of the NG. Many units have served in active status in war zones.

Please do NOT donate to FEMA, TEMA or even the Red Cross. If you can donate, please do so through the organization Robby mentions at around the 14:00 mark, donate to Samartians Purse and then there is a Mountain Mule organization, but I can't fully remember their name at this writing, who are doing amazing work getting to people in remote areas. Thank you for anything you can give. It is so greatly appreciated in Northeast TN.

Another mention, I heard Robbie say that his parents came from Cuba. My family immigrated from Europe, running from communism, and when they came here, they got not one dime, and they survived and worked hard to get to the middle class status. Why are we giving people money when they come here? They never gave money to the immigrants before. I just can’t figure things out anymore because it gets you so frustrated.

I live in this area and you don't have to know who's helping cause you see everyone helping. You go to the store and you see people with multiple grocery carts filled with 50 cans of food, boxes of dry foods, diapers, garbage bags, water, ect. You see people on FB letting people know what equipment they have and that they're willing to help anyone. We are #MountainStrong We are #AppalachianStrong

I live in Western NC and have been trying to help in these smaller communities outside of Asheville. I can tell you that it is worse than most of the news coverage is showing and most of the help is coming from individuals and individual organizations coming in from around the country and Canada. The Democrat response from DC down to the local government has been ridiculous. Until Trump hit the ground here and called them out, we heard crickets from them. And what we have heard hasn't been very useful.
This makes American GREAT!! AMERICANS, not the government. We are unstoppable when we come together!!!

Our area put boots on the ground with many volunteers and FEMA/TEMA arrived and shut it all down and seized control of the donations all except the churches. Total madness they won’t allow locals to distribute help.

We have pilots flying out of SC that are being told they will be arrested if they drop supplies or try to rescue people. I’ve heard of several schools who have had donations confiscated or even residents having private property like boats taken by FEMA!!!

You begin to see that who governs you is very important when these kind of things happen and if you look at the state of Florida and see the way their governor responds, you can see the difference. The governor of North Carolina is a Democrat and you see over and over and over again when a situation happens how they handle it whether it’s in Colorado or wherever it’s not good. I live in Georgia and our governor is a Republican and he responded quite well to our problem in the south of Georgia with this hurricane. How we vote is very important folks so let’s wake up and do the right thing.

I'm in NC & have seen videos of state & local officials telling would be rescuers to stay away. A guy in his personal helicopter was threatened with jail if he rescued any more people. They've blocked access to the entire western part of the state. There are people all over social media asking for a way through so they can help save those stranded. Entire tractor trailers full of supplies are being turned away or stored in a FEMA camp.
I'm not sure if it's true, but I've also heard people say that officials are leaving dead bodies instead of collecting them. The local hotels are so full of federal employees that the people who've lost everything have to so place to stay once they're rescued.
My local church is going on Monday and Tuesday, and I plan to be there. We've already collected lots of supplies. I plan on hiking for miles if I have to. The state and federal response is disgustingly embarrassing. If not for civilians, most of those stranded would still be.

The fact that FEMA is giving all this money to immigrants explains why those affected back in my hometown of Douglas Georgia that “qualify” for it are only getting $750. From the last thing I’ve heard back home, nearly all powerlines are down, if not all of them, and the lineman crews are struggling to keep up with all the work and are trying to get at least 100 more crews out there to help out. I’m so thankful me and my wife deployed when we did though because our home back home is essentially destroyed..

I am so glad that you’re addressing this I know that the Cajun Navy have been there since the beginning and I have collected all kinds of stuff baged and tagged plus electronics and lines etc and my time and it’s very hard to find someone to tell me what to do with all of this so I keep calling friends in Georgia still no electricity but I have decided to go and personally deliver it to some churches and go volunteer as much as I can cause FEMA is giving $750 per household THATS INSANE so calling all Americans who can help to go and help they will not have electricity for a good while are mail how you going to get them that money and then what they need food water meds all kinds of stuff so please anyone who can help with things they need please just get it to them fyi my SUV is full but we have to help these people God bless everyone who cares and it sure doesn’t look like the government cares about

The Church especially needs to stop looking to the government to do what God has called us to do. I'm about 2 hrs from Asheville and I am not personally able to go, but I've been able to give to people through churches and even my own brother who went up yesterday to deliver supplies.

Here in upstate SC our whole community is collecting food items and other personal items to send by helicopter to western NC! Even blood donations! We are worried for you all.
My hope is for the government to send the aid needed to rebuild roads and clean up debris quickly so you can get your community back and running. Theres no road access up there, the roads were wiped away by floods and mudslides. Where is the extra aid?!

We still don’t have electricity. We couldn’t get out our driveway because of all the fallen trees and electric wires. Ya’ll we barely have phone service and it’s really hard to find places they come in. Please look into the people missing! One guy that owns a helicopter got threatened to be arrested after he picked up his wife he couldn’t go back and get the husband. Please please please look into this. It happened in Lake lure.
