All knife laws should be unconstitutional and it's great that you're bringing more light to knife rights org. That being said I always use the knife rights app whenever I am traveling
I'm very grateful for Knife Rights. They helped us out quite a bit last year here in Nebraska. When we got our constitutional carry law, Knife Rights made sure it included a preemption to our stupid knife laws. Now I can carry what I want without worrying about it being open carry or concealed. 👍Cheers, buddy!
I have been told that many states consider a knife "concealed" if it is carried in a sheath, because the blade is concealed by the sheath! LOL. It really comes down to the cop who stops you and the judge you're standing in front of. 😂
Great video JB! Definitely an important topic to cover. I live in Arizona which is one of the most knife friendly states out there. But I do travel a lot for work and knowing what other states laws are is very important.
In Florida it is legal to carry most anything except a Balistic knife. However there are certain locations/places/businesses where there are restrictions. Great topic JB.
"Better to judged by 12 than carried by 6" I live in WA. And I have had a knife pulled on me twice. The first time I got the knife (which was illegal) from the guy and the police got him about a half a block away. He was released on bail the next day. He got a year probation. A slap on the wrist. I grew up here with our doors unlocked riding our bikes everywhere. Those days are gone. Criminals are pampered. It's not safe.
I live in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Iive on the east coast. Here in Pennsylvania we can carry any type of pocket knife that we want. There are no kinfe restrictions here in Pennsylvania. I love your TH-cam channel JB and i subscribe to your TH-cam channel. And automatic pocket knives and butterfly knives are legal to carry in Pennsylvania.
That just happened within the last 1-2 years. I think 2023 Jan they became legal. , autos and gravity knives were illegal to carry. Ritter won the court case for our freedom to carry them here in PA
In Virginia we can own and carry Automatic/switchblade, and Balisong/Butterfly. But the Gravity and ballistic is illegal to own. I like the App from Knife Rights. Great video JB, thanks for sharing. Be safe.
Anything goes in Alabama but municipal and county laws vary wildly. I frequently walk around with a Cold Steel 21" Chopper machete across my back without anyone batting an eye. I'll have to check with my Sheriff buddy concerning local regs. Automatics used to be banned. I'm a member of Knife Rights btw
Hey JB! There's not much illegal here in Louisiana right now, except for local jurisdictions. We really need a preemption at the state level, but they haven't figured that our yet. You know, people seem to be afraid of things they do not understand, hence draconian laws. A very good friend was serving an arrest warrant that went well until the guy's "old lady" came running our of the house with a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the hip.. What's a faster draw? A kitchen knife in the hand, or any kind of pocket knife? It's time for a nationwide change, for sure. Shucks, if I knew that I was going to have to defend myself, I'd bring a rifle, anyways. I love your videos. Keep it up!
Here in Missouri it is legal to own dirks, stilettos, and other slim knives. It is legal to own boot knives and other daggers It is legal to own Balisong knives, sometimes called butterfly knives. It is legal to own undetectable knives-knives that will not set off metal detectors. It is legal to own throwing stars and throwing knives and even throwing axes. It is legal to own Bowie knives and other large knives. It is legal to own and carry a switchblade Up until 2012, it WAS against state law to carry a switchblade. Since that time, the law was amended to remove switchblade from its list of prohibited weapons.
Michigan is sort of an odd state when it comes to knife laws. No stilettos, no double edge knives, dirk. Cannot conceal any stabbing instrument. It's a felony to carry a knife with a blade longer than 3 inches with the intent to use it unlawfully against another person. That is why I typically stick to 3 inch or less to not get in a hassle. Thanks for the video JB
As for where I live, I can own just about any type of knife, machete, sword, etc. What is illegal to possess would be a tool that can open a fire hydrant. As for what I can carry. The laws is vague and says basically any knife with a blade under 3 inches. But the stipulation is pretty clear that if you're involved in anytime of suspicious or illegal activity then possession of a knife becomes an additional illegal activity regardless a blade length. As many cops have told me, the law is there to make it easier to arrest a person doing stupid stuff. We don't have stop and frisk so just use common sense. For instance, if you're fishing and a cop sees you with a knife, he's not going to bust you. But if you're hanging around a public park and start carving your initials in a park bench, you're probably going to get busted even if you're using a file on your nail clippers.
I am still wrapping my head around things. I'm a pretty by-the-book type of person by nature and even I pine for less restrictions. I'm just not as prone to take calculated risks about owning/carrying things even if I believe I should be able to. Job wouldn't really let me do that, if I got caught/I am looked at as someone they want to find a reason to cite something about.
Knife laws can very by area in California. Everyone focuses on Automatic Knife, which must be under 2 inches. Fixed blade must be unconcealed and worn at the belt. In some cities under 3 inches on knives.
I've been stopped by the cops a few times walking at night I guess I look Suspicious or something but they always gave me my knives back once they figured out who I was one of those times I had a microtech utx-85 on me so they most be legal I'm going to have to look into now I'm in michigan I think everything is legal but im not sure I'm going to look into it great video man 👍
New law for Washington. No knives on public transport. I ride public transit all the time. Can't carry legally, which means I can be a victim of crime with my expensive ebikes or bikes. They can check your bags
Yes, gravity knives and balisongs are legal to own in Ohio, but they are not allowed to be carried concealed. 🤷🏻♂️ I googled it. I can't remember the last time I got patted down though, so I can probably carry anything
I Thailand it is "if it is used in a crime then it is a crime to carry it" otherwise in the rural areas you see guys with 12 inch kukris strapped to the belt or on a sling all the time. Almost every pickup truck has some type of machete under the seat or in the back. In the cities it is rare to see a knife exposed carry, but be darn sure that the thai guys drinking in the bar each have a knife on them. Cheers!
In Iowa, if you have a concealed carry permit, you can carry any lenth knife. Without a concealed carry permit the limit is 5 inches. Autos, Balisongs and gravity knives are legal. You cannot carry a sword cane you can own just not use/carry. The only one I know is illegal to own is a ballistic knife.
Kentucky prohibits concealed carry of "deadly weapons" without a permit. These are defined in statute as the things you'd expect, plus a few I didn't: shuriken, explosives, some other oddities. And you can't get a permit for some. That said, "deadly weapons" is explicitly defined to include knives, other than an ordinary hunting or pocket knife. These can be carried concealed or open without a permit. And how would you not carry a small traditional without concealing it? But what counts as "ordinary" is not defined in law. Interestingly, there's no precedent that settles it either. It's up to the arresting officer and ultimately the judge in any given case. The courts and legislators have been reluctant to create a firm definition. Regardless, don't carry them onto public school grounds. That's forbidden across the board. Not surprising.
@@BigRedEDC next time I'm there will be for only a couple days, so all carry-on luggage. No knives to worry about the undefined aspects for me at that time at least.
Sorry but I think it's BS for what you can carry I think you should be able to carry whatever you want to protect yourself and your family a toothbrush handle is deadly & a lot of other material things that can be made to cut I just don't get it. Glad I live in Georgia pretty much anything goes. Hope you're having a great week. Much Love to y'all.

Very good Mike
It's so confusing in Pa. I basically carry what I want. I just don't act stupid in public. Another great knife chat JB and KnifeRights is awesome.
Same here Mike!
Enjoyed this JB! Good information! Thank you sir!
Glad you enjoyed it David

That's a little excessive but those are the aspects that are troubling with some of these laws

RIght on!
As long as you're not doing anything stupid you have a better chance of getting a ticket for jaywalking than getting a ticket for an illegal carry.
True enough. That's why I carry what I want for the most part
