@bmwblog I love the styling and that it's basically a mini M4. 1M or not, I've owned my N54 powered car for close to a decade and have no desire for another one or a S55. I still can't get on board with the look of the G80.
The N54 is ok, as long as you replace the turbos at some point :)

The g87 and g80 can be questionable with styling , the M1 and M2cs are in the hall of fame on capability and styling across the masses and for years to come will be the gold standard. The S55 is one of the most underrated engines in the bmw lineup IMO. My vote is the M2cs. Thank you BMW blog and Nate for the great content I’m a big fan and for the Debbie downers there are plenty of other videos to watch if you don’t care for this one so stop complaining and appreciate that this is done FOR US!!! lol funny because i just got an OG manual m2 a few weeks ago and i think the g80 m3 will go down as down of the last great m3s because of the fact that it offered a manual and seems to be the last m3 with just an ICE. i think this generation of m cars will be praised in 10-15 years when we're fully into hybrids and EVs; then we're REALLY going to be reminiscing at the good ol ICEs; even if they had turbos

M2cs is a masterpiece of M division...i think would be my choice

1M for me. Although id consider s65 swapping it
The 1 series M coupe will always be a classic. With that said, I own the G87 M2 and it is a blast to drive.

I have owned the 1M Coupe and it is a great drivers car. I have owned the first series M2 and really enjoyed it. I have owned the F80 M3 Comp and currently own the 2018 F80 M3 CS. I recently added the G82 M4 50 Jahre edition to my collection and decided not to go for the new M2. That is because the M4 will be better suited for longer Autobahn driving than the M2 with its shorter wheel base. As for styling, I kinda like both the new M2 and M3/4 despite the controversy.
why did you sell the 1M?
der M2 ist aber auch schon so lang, meinst du der fährt sich unschön auf der autobahn? will wetten, dass er auch bei 250 usw. wie ein brett auf der bahn liegt.
Fantastic video Nate I enjoyed it! I’m looking to buy the new G87 M2 and personally although not quite as pretty as the previous gen, I still like it. As BMW are highly likely to release a xdrive competition variant in the near future - I think it’s best to wait for one of those. Keep up the great work.

Yes, that's how it works. My choice would be first: M2 CS, then 1M.
G87 all day, was between both a used M2CS and a new G87, G87 hands down. Look extremely menacing in person especially when lower, muscle car like design. M2CS is a looker for sure but dated when sitting next to G87
Awesome video but were there any times?
Unfortunately we did not have the time to time them all (no pun intended). It was so muck workload in just a few hours and simply had to focus on just driving. This is why we messed up a bit the drag races too, they were too rushed

I'm fortunate to own both a 1M and M2CS. Both are amazing cars and plenty capable. The 1M is destined to become a true icon for BMW, there's no dispute. The M2CS has the potential to become an iconic BMW as well, but the 1M has already made its way into the "iconic" BMW list... time will tell. Until then, I'll enjoy each. Ironically I enjoy my modded 135i most of all! :)

I love my FBO 135i. The thing is absolutely raw. It never fails to make me absolutely cackle. Even though it doesn't have the M bodykit, it still looks like a pair of shoulders just muscling down the road.

Got my 1M out of storage and am driving it while I await my 718 CGTS.
It’s still an absolute riot and turns heads.

I had a 981S manual and just sold it as my GTS arrives 2 days before Christmas. A 2-year wait!

@@bmwblog MT! going white like my previous 981S for the stormtrooper look. Wanted Lava Orange but the color choices are really limited as are options. No extended fuel tank or PCCB and for ED they will only hold a car 45 days.

This is one of the best BMW videos out there, carwow did something like this but going straight, your input put my curiosity to rest wow wished you could have also have a tuned 135i N54 into the mix but that M1 is basically a 135i so i'll take it, keep it up with the old vs the new that's awesome, doing some tuned older models vs the newer ones is a cool concept, and to your question which one will i pick with no hesitation that M2.

@@bmwblog Yea believe me i had many including BMWs nothing like black, red or white i make them look amazing, but as far as that new M2 all i would do to it is 1 and a half lowering and black tint all around it and keep it stock for a year then tune it to stage 2 at least and i'll be killing AMGs. I'm a great driver but your driving skills are superb.
Nate nailed the track portion, especially since he literarily had to drive and talk for nearly 8 hrs. Mostly manuals too
E82 or F87 for me!

The M2 should feel just as fast as the M3 both being auto. I think that's the difference you felt between them
It could be, the auto in the M2 makes a difference. But overall, the M2 still should feel smaller, more nimble.
F87..... last M2 made in germany, no mexico pls..

@@bmwblog I’ve had my m2 cs manual for a few months now - had a m2 comp before and a 1 series m coupe years ago. The m2 cs has a basic raw drive. No stupid touch screens, hand break buttons, over complex driving setting etc
I work a lot for BMW and after spending a lot of time with BMW China I see the design of new BMWs is to suit the large Asian market - clearly shown in design and ‘features’ and as communicated by BMW
The m2 cs clearly wasn’t influenced but the Asian purchasing % and ticks all my boxes

I currently drive a M2 Competition and are looking to update. Whilst I’m sure the new M2 is great to drive I just can’t live with those looks. I may have to wait another 18 months or so and look seriously at an 2025 M3.
I mean, the M3 is not that much of a better looker :) Both cars drive great though
@@bmwblog that’s why I’ll probably wait until 2025 when the new M3 is released. I’m also considering an Alpha Romeo Giulia Q. but would prefer to stay with BMW. Time will tell.

We couldn't get one. We asked for that and M240i. So we had to work with what we had

I know. We really tried. We were happy they got us the M2 CS and 1M. They rarely give those out. They are part of the BMW Classic fleet in the US. So there was no way we could start demanding now this M3 and that 2 Series etc...On top of the fact that we were the first to track the M3 CS and pretty much burn their rubber :)

Sorry, the Stig wasn't available. We also went for Clarkson. He was busy too. So we went with third best option. Nate did great.

Older M2CS for me, more fun, MUCH better looking, in fact, the best M car of it's generation.
New M2 is obviously a much more capable car, but it seems too safe.
1M I was never a fan of, it's not a real M car imo, just a parts bin special, and I always found it ugly.
M3 great daily, but not the prettiest.
All out of my budget, so I guess I'll have to be happy with my M140i 🙂
The 1M might be a parts bin, but if you drive one, it will change your mind.

I worked in the motor trade for many years and got to drive most of the hot hatches and M cars, but the 1M is one I have yet to actually drive myself.
It just looks so ugly for starters (and I know looks are subjective, my own M140i isn't exactly 'pretty').
It just seemed over hyped and not special enough, compared to other M cars. I wanted it to be a scaled down M3, and when I first got to sit in one, it just wasn't, by a long way. I have been driven as a passenger in one, and it just didn't ignite any feelings for me.

That yellow M3 is soooooooo ugly. The color really accentuates the beaver tooth grill.
To each their own, but Dakar Yellow will always be a great yellow!
