I really appreciate seeing non-vegans enjoy vegan food. It sends a very convincing message since it puts taste first, making it more attractive & relatable to people not bothered about much else regarding their diet. Thanks for the video, everything (including you and Emma) was super aesthetic, and it was quite informative, I loved it!
I am a bit surprised, honestly, that there are not MORE vegan restaurants in Japan, what with all the historical influence of Buddhism... These places look absolutely FANTASTIC, each and every one!
It's only certain sects of buddhism that eat vegan foods, and buddhism in Japan has dwindled for some time since the west brought over christianity. You can find shojin ryori places still though! And there are more and more vegan places popping up, especially in Tokyo :)
There was one emperor in the year 673, called Tenmu, that banned meat consumption. Buddhism has changed a lot and many Buddhist schools today don't take the compassion seriously when it comes to consuming animals, they found excuses to not feel responsible for the killing of the animals. I hope now with veganism, there's a rebirth of compassion towards animals in japan, japanese culture, and even shintoism would be totally aligned with the philosophy of veganism.
as a vegan I REALLY appreciate someone like you who is willing to eat vegan food. you have no idea :( it sucks going out with friends and they never want to try a vegan place and you're stuck eating a salad or a bean burrito
@@paige172 I wanna go out and spend time with friends so it's either salad and fries or I sit there drinking water watching everyone else eat lol... I'd rather just have salad. at least since this comment I've convinced a few friends to go to my fav vegan place with me and they enjoyed it despite it being pricey
Beyond Meat is making a vegan version of pork and I can't wait to try it! I'm not vegan but if the fake meats keep getting better as they have been then I will convert!
@@koolaidman6251 Impossible brand is insane. Granted it's been a long time since I've had a burger, but it tastes just like I remember. Beyond burgers are good, but I think they do better sausages.
I love your outfits and your whole makeup! Also, I really appreciate this video because I’ve been wanting to go to Japan for years now but I’ve always been afraid of if there were going to be any vegan choices so thank you for making this video
I love anime & I always wanted to visit Japan. But I am also vegan so I thought I would never able to go there. It's good to know that Tokyo has these many vegan restaurants. Thank u mikan for the information.
Look so yummy!! I’d definitely go those places if I was in japan. And by the way I really like all your outfits (including hairstyles) in this video, Mikan!
Thanks for this, I'm a veggie so I'm aiming for vegan in Tokyo as I know sometimes 'veggie' isn't always veggie in Japan. I knew of some of these places, but it's good to see inside.
heck yea !! i was one of the vegans who requested this lol, tysm for putting so much effort on making this, i will definitely use this video as reference for my future travels hehe
I love watching your going out videos as many places where I live are shut back down and schoolwork makes it harder to do much. Thank you so much for making cozy content that makes my day better! :)
this was a really fun video! i’ve always been worried about one day traveling to japan and not having any options but clearly there’s a bunch. it all looked so yummy! you should definitely make more of these
Your friendship with Emma is so wholesome and I am here for it. Love both of your guys' channels so it's so cool to see you coming out with the collabs lately!
I am SO HAPPY you made a vegan themed video! Like you said, it is still a nieche in Japan, so I am glad to get to know some more places! ♥️ I went to wired bonbon a lot! Their crêpes are super nice too! And that chocolate cake is a must! Can't wait for the next time coming to Japan.☺️
Omg I was gonna travel to Japan in the next half year, probably not gonna happen quite yet thanks to Covid, but I really really appreciate this as a vegetarian (also trying to eat more vegan) foodie! And it's perfect coming from my fave TH-camr, love you Mikan
Loved this video! Would love to see more. I would love to visit Japan sometime. I was told their vegan options were limited so this is really nice to see that they really aren’t, you just have to know where to look.
This is the most helpful video I’ve seen for vegan food eats in Tokyo. It was especially helpful for me since I’m vegan and have celiac disease, it really put my mind at ease knowing when I travel I can find good food to eat 😅
I feel like you really found some of the best places! I love Ain Soph, my favourite is Ripple but it's closing because of a situation with the building ; A; I hope they can reopen! I'd love to go to the Ikebukuro location too. Ain Soph Journey in Shinjuku is also great! T's Restaurant was another firm favourite on our last trip, we always go to T's Tantan, so had to try the restaurant last time too! The doria was amaaaaazing and my partner had the curry which also looked super nice. We went again 2 more times, including a second time in one day because we wanted to just try all the desserts so we got a dessert platter and 2 other desserts to share between the two of us 😂 was worth it though! I've still not had a chance to go to Wired Bonbon, always looks so good! Universal Bakery opened a while after our last trip, but I'm desperate to get back to try there too, and its in one of my favourite areas too :) and it's really interesting to hear meat eater's perspective on Yakiniku Like's soy meat, I think I'd be too freaked out by it 😂 but my partner loves fake meat so I'm sure he'd wanna go ^^ I'd love to see you try more places! A lot of businesses like that are struggling lately because there are no tourists and many vegan cafes and restaurants in Japan are small independent businesses, so its good to spread the word about good places to eat :)
Yay! Vegan suff! This might be my favourite ever Mikan video & I would love to see more vegan in Tokyo stuff. The first time I travelled to Tokyo as a vegan was in 2013 and it was pretty great for vegan food then but it just keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to come back and try the bakery and I loved Wired BonBon last time I was there in 2018. I still see people saying that they had to quit veganism when they went to Japan which is just ridiculous so seeing popular channels like yours making vegan Japan content is great. My only question is which sauces at the yaki niku place are vegan?
Thanks for visiting some new places - I was last in Tokyo only last Xmas and I'm pretty sure at least a few of these places weren't around them. Adding them to the list for next trip!
Ah, I loooved this video. Is there any way you could make this a series? Not necessarily always vegan food, however you'd wanna do it, but I loved watching you and Emma eat you way through Tokyo. I'm not vegan myself, but my gf is, so I'm taking notes!! Everything looked so good.
Thank you so much for pointing out the gluten free options too! I’m super allergic to gluten but I’ve always wanted to go to Japan! This makes me feel a lot better knowing there will be food that I can eat when I go out Thank you Mikan! Love your videos
@@jjyt28 it literally means “soy sauce on pudding(Japanese Purin) tastes like sea urchin(uni)”. It’s just a taste buds trick. There is another one, adding some milk to barley tea makes it taste like coffee with milk.

Mikan, this video made me actually emotional haha. I really had no idea there was so much I can eat there, and that it's not just the basics, it's actually the delicious and beautiful food that Japan is known for
just fyi the buttery taste on the croissant was probably vegan butter which is pretty much margarine/vegetable shortening which is vegan most of the time (except for the ones with added sugar !) or unlikely for a bakery, but it could also be coconut oil, it also has that rich smooth flavor on breads !
Thanks so much for making this video!! I hope you can continue to include vegan options in your vlogs and such. I can't wait til it's safe to travel again. I wanna try these places!!
at first I thought that you were going to all these places in one day! haha I was in Tokyo 3 years ago and it was so hard to find vegan food so this will be really helpful if I ever manage to go again
Lovely to see you with Emma. Great content if you need/choose to eat this way. However, it would be helpful to have a link to each of the places you visited so that those who wish to find them (once, of course, visitors can return) can do so. I bookmark tons of things outside of Japan to check out when I'm back. These little gems can be very hard to find--providing they survive the downturn in business due to the pandemic.
