What did you think of the restaurant choices in Shinjuku? My advice: decide where you want to eat BEFORE you go or take the MagicalTrip Foodie Tour and let Sho @ShoMeJapan take you! Here's the tour I took: tinyurl.com/shinjuku-magicaltour Sho said he'd chime in with a comment soon. Mata ne~ John ^_^
I think it was a bit interesting, as either it was filmed in a way that showed all the places to be empty, or those werent popular by the locals. Also didnt really get the "real" Shinjuku wibe from the two first places in my opinion. Me personally would probably gone to other places. Could be the time of day as well. I do get a little sad seeing videoes from Shinjuku in general I miss the place, its chaotic and calm at the same time.
For real! I like how unpretentious like "omg look at me I'm a youtuber that lives in Japan, bet you gaijin never tried SUSHI before~" it is, and he always has the chillest guests.
I just returned from a 2 week trip in Japan. As always, food is good, great, or excellent. And with the weak yen, it is very affordable. Miss it already 😪
Kabukicho Shinjuku should be the major itinerary of any fan of Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza / Like A Dragon) who is visiting Japan. Roam the streets where Kiryu Kazuma and the rest of the gang walked! I was there in 2019 and it was amazing!
When OIJ covers Japanese food, it's always a great watch! Sho being a local makes him the perfect guide! I learned something with regard to the wasabi, put it on the sushi, not in the soy sauce to enjoy it's flavour fully. Thanks John! 👍🍣😋
I've always done it because sometimes i want ther little extra kick of some fresh grated wasabi and sometimes i dont lol. Never understood people who just instantly mixed it in
Just rewatching this episode and realized how well the camera work is with the opening of you speaking and the camera angles and cut and pace of the video. Well done John❤
Your diet was annihilated, John! Well worth it! Sho was a great guide and a great dinner partner. Then came the Sake! Lol. It was fun watching this episode!
Oh wow, second time I've seen Sho in a video that's outside his channel, I saw him collab with TabiEats recently too. Kabukicho after dark can be an... interesting place. Thanks for the recommendations, will look into them next time I visit.
A great adventure in Shunjuu. It's really a place where you can get lost too with all the options. Its nice to have a guide to show you the highlights.
These videos are great, I find myself often rewatching the much older ones on the "older channel" becaused like this video. Just so much information and so much fun to watch.
We took at food tour with Magical Trip in the area of Dontobori, Osaka. It was excellent. Our guide Hiro took us to little places off the main tourist areas and introduced us to more local places where we experienced wonderful examples of food and drink. Would highly recommend this tour group.
Aloha John. Loved this video. I never knew there were individualized tour options like this where you can have a more one on one adventure. I would totally do this! Thank you for enlightening me with another fantastic fact about beautiful Japan.
The food looked delicious. Thankfully, you had eaten enough food before you went to drink. Sake can definitely can sneak up on you. The guide seemed very nice.
This is such a good episode, and I was eating lunch at the time. And thinking the same thing my diet gonna start tomorrow. 😂 The magical trip host looked super chill and like really enjoyed meeting new people that’s cool I definitely use them if I come back to Japan
I might try this. Will arrive in Japan in two weeks and stay for almost three weeks. I will be travelling alone, so it could be nice with some social activities too.
John, this is exactly what i'm talking about. I have been to Shinjuku many times (got lost many) but i would still watch this with great attention to details, as there are always things to learn, to know about the place, the food, etc. So when i go back, i can give it a ago. Topics like these are what make people click! Also again, it shows the level of quality you are producing: Informative, refined. What other youtubers putting a 135mm on a tripod in the middle of busy Tokyo city to get the money shot?
Won't lie, I prefer the more inventive topics like the Melody Road and JR Station cleanup, but a good ol' fashion food tour is also worthy of multiple rewatches whenever it pops up. Cheers, John
Forget about diet John. You are already very slim and healthy. I suggest you eat more tempura and your fav delicacy. I miss our healthy John from 5-6 years ago . 😅
John, please Do a Club Crawl. I haven't been to Japanese club in so long, I'd have no idea where to go when I return. Can you maybe also include so other nightlight ideas for the middle aged crowd too, (because you are old...me too)
Excellent! There are so many things that I really love about videos like this. You always have a back story or share some of the history behind the food, drink and town. Videos like this helps some decide where in Japan they may want to visit next. We have been to Japan at least 10 times within the last 12 years. Visited Shibuya with plans for Shinjuku but, knee issues prevented that. Got knee replacement in January and now have plans to be there 2 days before Golden Week. This trip will be mainly to visit family in Nagoya and Gifu. Thanks for sharing Japan with us!
exactly where you met your guide, there used to be a Nigerian guy that would stand there and try to get you to the bar to roll you back in the classic Kabukicho days. It's so weird now, and we lost several good restaurants across from the prince hotel
@@onlyinjapan Yes, but I have stayed at the Prince many times, over many years, so i got very familiar. When i read Tokyo Vice it was fantastic because I knew all the places he was talking about that made it very visceral. There used to be a great authentic Taiwanese restaurant, and a great gyoza place where the Mcdonald's is now. There is a restaurant called Asou there that threw up the cross when i walked in that may not allow foreigners. I also recommend the Kirin brewPub, Japanese style gastropub food,
You’re welcome. Probably on the website of the tour company. I put that in the video description. Great thing about taking the tour is that I only had to eat 😋
Even after 25 years here, I’m always learning something new. Some of those sake were next level! The blue glass one, I didn’t introduce but it’s made for the emperor and WOW! He’s got good taste.

@onlyinjapan You mistyped Shinjuku in your YT title: Shunjuku Restaurant Tour Experience
I think it was a bit interesting, as either it was filmed in a way that showed all the places to be empty, or those werent popular by the locals.
Also didnt really get the "real" Shinjuku wibe from the two first places in my opinion. Me personally would probably gone to other places.

I wonder if you had Indian restaurant in japan? Never seen one you eat anything foreign food in japan
Hi John, can you tell me where you get the music for your videos? I love them and want to know
Anytime I see an Only in Japan episode or a Japanology episode on food, I'm in. They don't miss on these. Ever
For real! I like how unpretentious like "omg look at me I'm a youtuber that lives in Japan, bet you gaijin never tried SUSHI before~" it is, and he always has the chillest guests.
I absolutely love Begin Japanology
Depends on which of the Only in Japan channel that has uploaded. Only John Daub never misses. 👍
@@AndySola The other one is now owned by Wao Ryu. I don't consider that the OIJ channel anymore because John left.
@AndySola Couldn't agree more. In my mind there is only one OIJ and one host: John Daub

You know it's a good day when John drops a video! Irasshaimase!
I went to Japan last year, it was an amazing place. I want to go back already.
The Magical Trip Tours look great. Definitely something I'm going to check out next time I'm in Japan. Thanks for sharing this!

I’ve have a tour with Sho!!! In 2019. He was awesome !!
Wow!! He’s been doing this for a while. I saw he’s a surfer 🏄♂️ too! EricSurf6 would love it!
I have been watching your videos for over 10 years. Keep up the good work.
Wow! We’ve grown together this last decade, so much has happened since then ^_^ thank you!

Love you Mr. Daub! You're the reason I went to Tokyo. So happy you're the forefront of the channel again!
Oh wow 🤩 I’m so happy to hear this! I hope you come back.
One of my favorite channels. Your genuine reactions about the beautiful parts of Japan are great.
Love your food videos !!
Great video still the king of Japan content John 🫵🏼👍
A Knight of the Round Table (Maru Table) but certainly no King 👑 only place to go from there is down 😂
It looked like a really fun time, and Sho was so knowledgeable and helpful.
He was also handsome!

I have seen so many people he lost trying to get out of the staton. thanks for the share! stay awesome!
Hotate and chutoro are two of my favorite. Yum! Would love to see you do a food tour inside one of the larger train stations.
Mouthwatering! The only Tokyo eating and drinking guide you need 🤤 thanks John and Sho from Magical Tour 🍤🥢🍣🍶
The production quality on this video is awesome 👌

Love to watch only in Japan.... It's simple not it without you John 🥳🙌
I miss these episodes, don’t really get to see these too often. But the man on the street esk reports are good too.
Greatest episode yet. 🌟 ⭐️
Wow i went on a tour with Sho pre-covid era, he was a great guide, and had fun. good to see he's still around.
Always excellent content & the food videos make me hungry for Japanese food! I want to eat what John’s eating! 😋💞
So wild to see two yakiniku shops right beside each other! Japan is unbeatable for anyone who loves food!
I wish this episode came out just a few weeks earlier. Well there's always next time I'm in Tokyo.
I had to get out last week’s episode on Manjiro first. But the tours will still be there. Sho’s been doing this for years.
your videos are simply the best John!

Sho stumbling over his words about why y'all went to the wagyu restaurant was so funny lol he just wants to gooo

Magical Trip tours are high on my list for Tokyo and Hiroshima for our trip in 2025. Wonder if they will expand to Ibaraki and Fukushima? Hmmm
I hope they expand, they do a good job, guides have been top notch.
Shinjuku was my incredible introduction to JAPAN! An unforgettable place, feast for the senses. P.S. TYPO in your title, John! ("Shunjuku"?)
for someone that is coming to Japan someday, I must try out the sushi both grilled and ungrilled
