    You've used snap rings that have eyelets. BB30 spec requires VHM42 snap rings otherwise the bearing seal can rub against the eyelets and you end up with a load of drag, and a leak path. In addition you are instructing your viewers to reuse a bearing that has brinnelled because the method of removal bangs the inner race.

      It doesn't matter, we aren't pros and we don't mind having an extra 12 watt drag. I've never had any BB30 creaks either it's sn excellent system. I still watch all your videos though I learn a lot about them.

      How much force would be required to brinnell the balls into race? is that in the s pec sheets? I Imagine cheapo would be softer race and quality harder ?

    • @Hambini
      @Hambini 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@2321brendan tapping it out would be enough. It's not so much the force, it's the blow. Every bearing manual explicitly says to avoid doing this.

      Very true, but for us amateurs we are less likely to mess it up using the snap rings with eyelets as supplied by Cannondale / fsa in their kit as they seem to be easier to install, at least for me
      I checked in case they dragged, but can see there should be no issue
      I had first used a snap ring but messed it up / twisted it out of true, which was definitely dragging
      The good news is that the bearings I bought from you are working great.....
      And yeah, after all that hassle, it does not make much sense to reuse the bearings unless you have no choice

    Great video, but BB30 is rubbish. As a mechanic I see so many customers with creaky BB’s..... if BB30 was so good? Why so many issues. Shimano hollow tech 2..... the best.

      I have a 29er with 2 bb bearings. Sram. No cups or sleeves or spacers. Just 2 bearings. 2013 lefty. No issues. Have not seen this type of bb on TH-cam. Many miles in the dirt. I don't know that much about bikes. Maybe just lucky? I did switch my shock from xlr to pbr. Swapped out stans wheels for mavic ust. 8 years with no problems.

    Have had many issues with creaking BB30 and PF30 bottom brackets in my Cannondales. The thing that really has helped me get rid of the creaking is to install the bearings and the cups with a medium strength thread locking compound

    I'm using my caad12 for 7 months with 5000km. First creaking after 2000km. I pressed the bearings in with grease. Same procedure after another 2000km solved the creaking again. Now it is creaking again. This time I used Loctite 641 retaining compound. I really hope this solves the problem for longer...🙈

      Your bearings were probably not pressed correctly, I have home made bearing press,,use new bearings go slow make sure they are going in straight and don’t force them if they tilt and bind up, I’ve had no more or less creaking/problems with threaded BSA. BSA cup still have bearings pressed in. Cannondale basically invented BB30 threaded with their magic crank system in 1993

    Excellent video and instructions. I, too, have not had problems with BB30 (many bikes and 15+ years).
    One suggestion, particularly for home mechanics: install/press one bearing at a time for ensuring bearing goes in straight. As in your video, the initial hand insertion is always just a bit misaligned.
    Thanks for the video.
