I don't know if you'll see this comment as you posted so long ago, but I'd always appreciate more details on technique and/or comments on common mistakes to watch for when first learning.
Common mistake most people make when starting: giving up. DONT GIVE UP! Keep training. Hahaha. Seriously, that’s the biggest challenge. After that, you should remember to go slower when you get frustrated that a spin isn’t working, or when you start hitting yourself more. Loss of control is often because the staff is too heavy or you have not built up enough muscle and control. These are very temporary problems but you have to have patience with yourself for a few sessions. In my more recent training videos, I add a few warmup moves that I think will get you there faster! Been practicing basic singular strikes. Need to incorporate combos in my routine. Also what are your opinions on metal or aluminum staffs
Personally, I prefer wood, but I have metal too. Aluminum is very light but stiff. I also have some very heavy metal I use to build strength.
You should practice striking on the punching bags or get a training dummy
Yes! I do have several different kinds of bags and targets that I strike on each day. Good advice!
