A look at the real Blackpool as we look around the Town Centre from Blackpool beach and North Pier to Blackpool Tower and along the Promenade.
Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Irish Sea coast of England. It's known for Blackpool Pleasure Beach, an old-school amusement park with vintage wooden roller coasters. Built in 1894, the landmark Blackpool Tower houses a circus, a glass viewing platform and the Tower Ballroom, where dancers twirl to the music of a Wurlitzer organ. Blackpool Illuminations is an annual light show along the Promenade.
Like many other UK coastal resorts Blackpool suffered a decline in tourist numbers. This was due to: foreign travel to the Mediterranean growing in popularity in the 1960s and 1970s due to its more reliable hot weather and sandy beaches. the expansion of package holidays and cheaper flights.
The 2019 Indices of Multiple Deprivation revealed Blackpool was ranked the most deprived area out of 317 districts and unitary authorities in England, when measured by the rank of average LSOA rank and also by two of the other four measures.
Blackpool's major attractions and landmarks include Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations, Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Water Park, the Winter Gardens, and Blackpool Tramway (the UK's only surviving first-generation tramway).
Blackpool is home to a plethora of fantastic tourist attractions that are sure to meet every need. Obviously, Blackpool is very well known for its seaside charm. Blackpool Pleasure Beach boasts 7 miles of sandy beaches, drawing over six million visitors a year.
Although Blackpool is not in a particularly affluent location, the house prices are fairly low by national standards, and the living expenses are also not too high. The employment rates in the town have also steadily improved over the years, and the crime levels are manageable.
Blackpool will appeal to young people because there are many thrilling and exhilarating activities to do. There are many exciting white knuckle rides at the Blackpool pleasure beach. There are also many shows and there is an ice arena where young people will enjoy spending time.
Summer or winter there's nothing like a walk on the many miles of golden sand on Blackpool beach! Along the whole of the Fylde Coast from Fleetwood in the north to Lytham and St Annes in the south is a golden, sandy beach.
Known for its Pleasure Beach, amusement arcades and donkey rides, Blackpool is the quintessentially British seaside holiday destination and the town welcomes over 6 million visitors every year.

Thank you for that. Although Australian now, hubby has fond memories of Blackpool, the tower & Blackpool rock. His father was minding the younger two, so hubby & his convalescing mother had quality time. My grandchildren would have enjoyed comic con & spent days making their perfect outfit.

Blackpool doesn't look as bad as some people say it is. Better than some parts of London.

Yeah right.....just the highest number of empty shops ever....and levels of poverty and social deprivation at the highest levels ever...not to say crimes of a violent and sexual nature in the town at the highest level ever. Otherwise, it's wonderful 😕

Dale's Diner, best fish and chip shop in Blackpool by far.

The Winter Gardens
The Tower
The piers
Coral Island
Harry Ramsdens
St Anne's down the road
Blackpool will not, and should not, ever become fully 'respectable' but I wish that it had more nice coffee shops and nice restaurants - although St Anne's does supply that

You passed lots of places to have coffee and tasty meal?
We've lived here 18 years most of the years in Bispham. My 3 kids went to great schools, college and have had a very good childhood growing up here.
My son is doing a Marine Biology Degree at the local University Centre. My Daughter's training to be a midwife. I've two small Grandson's and they're never bored. They go to a lovely school and nursery.
I wouldn't go back to live in Altrincham, Cheshire or Manchester.
Sadly lockdown didn't help shops and businesses but things are on the up.
Plenty of good quality houses for sale that aren't through the roof. Also new housing being built and new entertainment centres.
We are still having some good weather days too in October. Winters can be windy and cold.
There are some awful looking areas atm but there's a plan to eventually redevelop those. I've never regretted coming here.
This shows a great side of Blackpool, real life here unlike some news articles and national newspapers.
What's with those arches on Birley Street?
Good question - not sure!
It was a desperate attempt by Blackpool council to make the street look a little more interesting and to attract business. Like so many ideas put foward by councils, it is generally agreed that it did nothing for Birley Street at all. The appreciative crowds did not appear - it's been more than 15 years now so they won't be coming - and the number of empty shops continues to increase. Sadly, hard-pressed local people had to pay for this nonsense through their council tax.

Trying to give Blackpool the Benidorm look is not working , nearly but not quite , the topsy turvey climate doesn't help , still the best the U.K. can offer though and just a lick away you have the Lake District , so sorry but Spain does not have that little Jewell on it's doorstep.
