  • LYTHAM ST ANNES near Blackpool | A walking tour of Lytham St Annes Beach and Pier
Lytham is a seaside resort next to Blackpool, often described as one of the most prestigious places in Lancashire.
Lytham St Annes is a seaside town in the Borough of Fylde in Lancashire, England. It is on the Fylde coast, directly south of Blackpool on the Ribble Estuary. The population at the 2011 census was 42,954. The town is almost contiguous with Blackpool but is separated from it by Blackpool Airport.
Lytham and St Annes are a popular events destination and we think you'll love the annual five day Lytham Festival which takes place in a specially built arena on Lytham Green, or the Lytham 1940s Wartime Weekend as Lytham goes back in time every August, or the St Annes International kite Festival with colourful kite
St Anne's is a small but bustling resort with a pier, a padding pool and a bandstand: a fully-fledged slice of seaside life. Lytham is an even smaller residential town fronting the estuary of the River Ribble, rather than the sea, with the street lights of Southport twinkling comfortingly across the water.
The beach itself at St Annes is a huge expanse of golden sand. The sort that is perfect for running around on and building sandcastles. It's also a great spot for a paddle, however there are no lifeguards on duty and swimming isn't recommended towards the estuary. The sandy beach is so huge because of the wide tidal range of the Irish Sea. The beach is very flat, so the tide goes out a long way. But it comes back in very quickly - so beware!
This classic seaside resort on the coast of Lancashire offers a great social life for holidaymakers with locals scoring their happiness at an average of 7.44/10
At St Annes seafront and beach there are miles of open public land to explore. It’s an enormous natural beach. Walk the beautifully tended promenade gardens, complete with waterfalls and ducks. Enjoy traditional seaside attractions with fun for all the family.
The T junction between North/South Promenade and St Annes Road West is where you’ll find the central ‘seaside’ resort of St Annes seafront. It’s where the seafront hotels are, and all the traditional British seaside things.
St Annes Pier is opposite this junction, in the attractive surroundings of this typical British coastal resort.
There’s a good selection of high quality accommodation and places to stay, with a choice of period and modern properties. All designed to give you a perfect UK staycation!
There’s pay and display car parking at the front of and to the right of the pier. There are also Danfo public toilets here, pay with coins on entry to individual cubicles.
Nearby is the paddling pool which is very popular in summer, and next to it an attractive bandstand.
In Spring 2022, improvement works were carried out to the paddling pool. A ramp has been installed along with a new handrail. It’s also been resurfaced with a non-slip material to make it more accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
The seafront gardens are beautiful and well kept. At the southern end of the seafront is an ornamental pond and huge waterfall where you’ll find resident ducks.
Head South Along St Annes Seafront
Follow the seafront southwards with the sea on your right and you can walk right round the coastline. You’ll pass Fairhaven Lake and and if you carry on arrive at Lytham.

As many times visiting Blackpool, I've never been to Lytham St Annes. Bummer because it looks like a lovely place to chill. Love the mini train and the line of beach huts. Thanks for the walk around, nothing like a seaside village! :)

After some time following you around our favourite South West resorts I now find you have been following me! being your two recent posts of Lytham St Annes and Southport. I have lived in Southport for some 25+years now but grew up in Lytham St Annes from the age of 7 and again lived there for some 25+years and only recently sold my late mothers flat there. My favourite will always be Lytham St Annes though, but you missed half of the job…. Lytham. Lytham St Annes is two towns, St.Annes on Sea and Lytham but as a borough it is name-wise merged into Lytham St Annes, (LSA). Unless you did Lytham in another video we didn’t see any of Lytham this time. The Windmill at Lytham is a great landmark and Lytham green and the town centre is gorgeous with the flowers and restaurants, and free parking in the town. A little anecdote to start you off on the Windmill if you do come back. Built in the early 1800’s on what is now Lytham Green, in later years the posh houses being built opposite it claimed it should be taken down as it was an industrial blot on the landscape. How times change and it is my favourite view when driving “home” to LSA.
Back to Southport and again great to “follow” a “non residents” view of what I see and live in every day, fascinating and well done. It is also famous for its Air and Flower shows which bring in substantial numbers of tourists. The Food festival is also a big attraction.
Can’t forget to mention the backing music. Really good. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much Neil - You just made my day with this!
Regarding Lytham - I'm so confused by this place. Google says it's called Lytham St Annes, and tells me the pier is St Annes pier - it's all so confusing ha ha!
I'll follow your instructions on this one and head back to film the other bits as I'm keen to cover it all (regularly) as I really love it there

    • @spreadstreets
      @spreadstreets 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, Lytham was the original town and then St Annes was built. To confuse you even more there are two smaller towns in between being Fairhaven where Fairhaven Lake is and Ansdell, Fairhaven is more on the coast with Ansdell immediately behind.
They have both changed a lot over the last 50 years or so, as St Annes had all the hotels and only one pub, and Lytham had loads of pubs and only one Hotel in the main tourist areas. I lived in St Annes and went to school in Lytham. Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf club was at the bottom of our road which is where the Open Golf has been held and the Ryder Cup some years ago. And technically the southern end of the golf course isn't in Lytham at all, but with the Borough of Lytham St Annes we have an absolutely fab place to live. And yes it is St Annes pier which had a Moorish pavilion at the end which unfortunately burnt down in the 70's which hosted numerous of shows and along with Southport/Blackpool/Landudno/Liverpool and the Isle of Man had steamer pleasure boats moving between the towns until the shifting sandbanks silting up ended this, shame really. (that was over a hundred years or so ago though and these would moor at the end of the pier). It does have a reputation in the North West as being "posh".

The sea comes in twice every day and goes out
It comes in that fast people get cut off and stranded then life boat has to be called out to save them

Went there in 1987 for a holiday with parents. Was a lovely little place, but for the full week we were there we never saw the sea...I attempted to walk out to it but gave up half way through as it was miles away.

Back in the early 50s we used to visit there several times in the summer, there used to have old 2nd world war DUKWs to take you to see the sea as it was so far away at low tide, with its gently slopping sands the tide will come in very quickly. I wonder if the DUKWs are still there, perhapps in the main season.
