I LOVED The Warm Hands of Ghosts! I need to read Crucible of Chaos!! I love the Greatcoats! So many books on my list. I need to try and read them soon.
@OnlyTheBestFantasyNovels absolutely 💯 unfortunately for Lawrence I got lost in the depths of Malazan, Dresden Files, Second Apocalypse, Realm of the Elderlings etc. for awhile so he kind of got lost in the shuffle. Definitely an author I want to read everything of.
You read so many excellent standalones this last year! Some I knew about and some I didn’t. I enjoyed Guns of the Dawn and Sword of Kaigen. Both stories focused on propaganda and the aftermath of war in interesting ways. Happy reading this year!
I still got to get to the sword of Kaigen but when you said “gormenghast inspired” for your top pick the west passage my ear perked up. I’ll add it to the list
It's got the freaky imagination of Gormenghast and takes place in a strange castle in the same way, but it's less character focused and more plot driven. But yea, I know you liked Gormenghast so I think you'd most likely have a good time with The West Passage!
Yesss, love Guns of the Dawn! Awesome list man! A bunch of good stuff for the TBR. I've never heard of The West Passage - looks SUPER interesting. Thanks!!
Wow! What a fantastic list 🥰🥳 lots of books I have to check out.
Nice list!

I loved Broken Empire and Red Queen's War. It's good to hear pretty much universally he's continuing to outdo himself.
He is, I'm very interested to see what he's got cooking up now that the Library trilogy is nearly done. Any plans to give it a try?
