I have A Cruel Wind and The Mirror Empire on my shelves. I need to read them soon! I tried the first chapter of The Sheepfarmer’s Daughter and loved it but, never finished it. I need to pick it up again!

It's good to hear about The Hammer and The Cross on a booktube channel! Importantly, the series was co-written by a certain John Holm, who in fact was Tom Shippey, the renowned scholar of Tolkien and medieval epics. It is a very very well researched series. I don't agree that it's a Christian series though, it's got a powerful message that all new religions come with blood and violence. It has a religious theme but doesn't put forward one true religion. It is actually a fantasy-tinged alt history, where the Saxons and the Norse make a stand against the church.

I still haven't read it as I am making my way through ROW but hyped!

I did give it 5 stars! 🎉

I loved the book! Adolin getting the spotlight he deserved is what I enjoyed most. I might go back and just read his POV again. I love it so much!

Oh man I disagree with you about Szeth’s backstory! I enjoyed it! Of course not as great as Kaladin’s or Dalinar’s flashbacks

nice list! Unfortunately, the Rivers of London series didnt work for me, but ive had a second hand copy of Mirror Empire sitting on my shelf for years and might actually attempt to read it now. The military aspects of the sheepherders daughter intrigue me! might look into it once i finish my read-what-you-own challenge in 2025. Strange practice, as well, i think ill try a chapter to see if i vibe with it.

I really liked Cook's Instrumentalities of the Night (which no one talks about), so I picked up A Cruel Wind. I did not like it at all.

Vikings do tend to be the least interesting part of any Fantasy story they're thrown in (despite having an interesting mythology) but I'll be sure to check Hammer and the Cross out. Been meaning to check out Lynn Flewelling and Eluzabeth Moon's books for ages now though luckily Tamir Triad is the more readily available of Flewelling's works it seems.

I haven't read any of Ben Aaronovitch's books but I loved the Doctor Who story he wrote Remembrance of the Dakeks so I've always been curious about his novels. Looking forward to trying them.

Good review, Rabin. I am glad that you are planning to read all KJ Parker. He is definitely one of my favourite authors especially with how he explores the human nature.

Im also not the biggest fan of Lord of The Rings probably for the same reason as you. It is a series I think I should read again just because its so important to fantasy. I also think going into with a different mind set may help.

I want to do a bunch of Re-reads next year. I’ve only read the first book in The History of Dragons and I want to read more! Same with Name of the Wind!

Honestly Shallan might be my favourite POV from what I remember of the 2.5 Stormlight books I read years ago (that being said I'm not a fan of Sanderson's humour). So many moments I'm so keen to revisit.

Finally reading this now. I've read Mistborn. I thought it was alright/pretty good. But Stormlight seems to be more of my taste. It's been great so far. I'm fully invested

The Way of Kings was so fun! The ending was solid

WoK is also my favorite of the series. I think my investment lessens a little with each installment even though I wouldn't say any of them are bad. I hope Wind and Truth will mix up my rankings for Stormlight though!
