Hey Craig. Find the movie "Corvette Summer". Then you'll know what they were thinking with the Vette @ the 3:58 mark.

My first car was a 64 Galaxie 500 XL. Bought when i was 15 in 1979. Rebuilt the 335 HP 390 in High School. Baby Blue with White interior. Lots of memories. .. Good Luck with your project. Muck of the XL trim was Stainless Steel, may be some on the 500 as well...

I stopped into your channel when I saw the car. I think the 64 Galaxie is one of the finest designs that was made. Then I found that you were the age I was when I was going to swap meets, junk yarding, cruise ins etc. There were a hand full of us guys like you have that hung out most of the time with very limited budgets trying to make a couple of cars work, doing our own work, always finding more problems than we thought we would have to deal with. So I have been poking around in your videos and finding them very interesting. We didn't have college, but we did work full time + and had very little time to work on the vehicles or a place to do it. Enjoy the car clubs, internet and Craig's List. None of that existed when we were doing it. I'm loving the Galaxie and watching for more. Truck is very interesting.

Great find on the horn ring! My first car was a 64 Galaxie. There should be a plastic ring on the back of the horn ring with 3 tabs. They go into the ring on the steering wheel, IIRC it's about 1/8 turn clockwise to lock it in.
All the steering wheels that came on those cars where that flat black plastic that yours is. They were painted the interior color but most if not all had some of the paint worn through in a few years.
    Good luck with your car!

Craig, the OEM hubcaps for that car have a blue center cap that is the same color as the horn ring. They are quite nice. You may have them, I've forgotten.

Its not very period correct already it has a roller 302 and an AOD but i mean i get it

  • @GamePlayWithNolan

The horn ring should go right on, twist it counter clockwise until it goes in the holes then clockwise and that is all that is to it. I just had to take my Falcon's column off the other day. Make sure to buy the spring that goes in between it though otherwise your horn will stay on if you let go

Put some blue window tint on your gauges to match the horn rim center or take them apart & thin-spray the faces blue.

The steering wheel can be repaired to like new condition. The pros get some stuff they sell some where to put in the cracks and sand it down and paint it. I think the horn rim and the gauges will work together they look nice. The scratches on the horn rim on the blue part will sand out with some 600 grit and 1200 grit sand paper and buff it. Its hard plastic you would be surprised how easy it is to buff it out. Cool Car man I love it. You got a lot to work with its got some good bones. Your really need to start using real auto paint with hardener in it bump up your game and become more advanced on the paint but your chassis your working on with the Crown Vic front end is very pro looking. Wish you would get to work on it again.
