in todays video we're going to explore the 100 rules of doom metal. and these are rules and laws that you need to adhere to if you're a real doom metal fan. well, these are not to be taken fully seriously but there are some underlaying truths to these stereotypes. I think that these 100 rules portrays some of the characteristics, mannerisms, ideas and attributes that are associated with the Doom Metal genre. So let's have some fun!

Doom metal is by far the purest and oldest subgenre of metal, having split off from heavy metal early on, and being the subgenre that is the closest to having no punk influences (of course, it still has some punk influence, and it is really obvious in sludge metal).

Saint Vitus is one of the most influential doom bands and they were very inspired by hardcore punk - heck, they were on SST when they started and played shows with Black Flag! Hallow's Victim is also a very punk-inspired album.

Witchfinder General is such good doom along with what you mentioned. I need to be in a pretty dark mood for super doom like electric wizard.
When it comes to doom metal, I‘ve loved basically everything Wino has done. I when I was getting more into Black Sabbath and starting to listen to Alice In Chains, I was looking for more music kinda like that. I came across Spirit Caravan and soon after The Obsessed. Jug Fulla Sun is a masterpiece and possibly Wino’s magnum opus in my opinion, and it’s become one of my favorite rock/metal albums ever

Yeah I’m a Doom fan and my recommendation is Stygian Crown’s self-titled debut album, epic doom for fans of Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus with a particularly impressive performance from vocalist Melissa Pinion.
Give their song Flametongue a listen, imo it deserves to become a classic. \m/
Forsaken -After the fall is my recommendation. Epic doom like Candlemass but it's a little hardcore too in 1 or 2 songs

In a way, Doom Metal predates Heavy Metal, since the quintessential Doom track is Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, from their very first album. Deep huh? Doom really predates all other Metal genres.
In terms of release, Deep Purple released Black Night before Sabbath, in 1969. If this song were released in 1979 by Diamond Head, we'd call it an NWOBHM classic (which is what I thought it was first time I heard it). So I would say DP beat Sabbath officially, and with a more straight traditional HM song. BUT, we all know Sabbath wrote BS and were performing it at the same time.
Well it depends. Some people consider bands like Blue Cheer Led Zepplin, and Deep Purple to be metal before Sabbath.
Yeah, I'm aware many people think "metal" predates Black Sabbath. That's fine. I guess what I meant was that as a Metal subgenre Doom is the oldest to the best of my knowledge.

A lot of my personal habits go right along with the doom theme but probably listen to the least. I can say 100% because of watching these little videos I have been exploring excellent music I'd have never otherwise been interested in taking a look at. Doom metal isn't my favorite metal genre (that's a tie between black, death and thrash), but I am a fan. For my ears, Candlemass, Saint Vitus and Trouble were the masters of doom. Last but not least, number 96 made me chuckle because it was spot on.

Great to finally get an explanation to why purple is my favourite colour! Thanks for the list. Good and fun! Only objection I have (because as metal fans the sport is to never fully agree) is the rule about not caring about later Sabbath, but I am somewhat biased being a big Tony Martin era fan :). Many great doomy songs there (Nightwing, Anno Mundi, The Sabbath Stones, Virtual Death, Evil Eye, Kiss of Death, etc.).
I really feel like some of the later stuff is doomy AF. The Devil Cried.... Heaven and Hell's entire LP (the band not the actual Sabbath song and album).

The fact that it just sat on "doom dance" for awhile cracked me up the most; great list! Oh man, Sweet Leif was also great. Major doom fan checking in here. The best doom comes from a few specific places like England, Sweden, Chicago (Trouble), Texas (Solitude Aeturnus), Indianapolis (Apostle of Solitude, Wretch, The Gates of Slumber), and the east coast (Penance, Argus, Orodruin). There's also some really great South American doom metal like Procession!

Master of reality is also my favorit early Black Sabbath album.
Bands as Thergothon, Tyranny, Nortt and Evoken spreads Doom darkness and despair upon our world.

I'm a Doom Metal fan, but I only like traditional Doom with clean vocals, I don't like the extreme Doom Metal subgenres (Drone, Funeral Doom and so on). I'd say the most iconic Doom albums are:
1) Black Sabbath 'Vol. 4'
2) Trouble 'Psalm 9'
3) St. Vitus s/t debut album
4) Pentagram 'Relentless'
5) Candlemass 'Epicus Doomicus...'
6) Warning 'The Strenght to Dream'
And the holy grail of Doom Metal is the ultra rare, ultra expensive alternative mix of Pentagrams 'Relentless' album, which was issued before 'Relentless'.
