NOTCH 8! NS 238 in Hopkins with HOWLING EMD duo!!!

- EMD fans, TURN THOSE SPEAKERS UP!! Here's a video of a PSR version of NS 238 rolling past Hopkins with an SD70ACC and SD70ACe pulling the lengthy rock/intermodal train combo. Got a heads up about this train out of Atlanta the previous night, so I came down to Columbia early this morning to see if I could get this 238. Much to my luck, 238 was just finishing up their pickup when I came across it in Andrews Yard. When 238 got a TA to leave after swapping out with a relief crew, I made my way here to this spot to set up. As 238 was coming, I heard the loud roaring in the distance. I knew this would be one of my more epic catches of some notched up EMD motors, so I started the clip a little early to try to get a lot of that action. Unfortunately, I had to cut out some of the clip towards the beginning due to blowing wind, but the loud turbos made this catch one that I won't forget. As always, enjoy the video!

EMD’s are kinda quiet when they’re idling but when you throw them wide open, they are SUPER LOUD. so loud in fact you could still hear them after the train passes.

Them 710s are like gentle giants. If there just sitting there not even noticible but hell you put em to the floor, sounds like the worlds comin to an end

Oh I have heard louder. UP 2 mile long coal train, howling like this + wheelslip. It was amazing, but SUPER loud!

The few times I have it has been amazing it definitely sounds a lot better than the GEVO’s and Dash 9’s on the NS
I definitely have been able to catch a few gp38-2 on the shortline by my house and I have been able to hear it well before it shows up and man does it sound good when they are howling

When ATSF loaded up their TOFC fleet with four big units those V20 SD 45,s 45-2,s would rev up like that leaving Emporia, but by the time they got to, at Merrick tower, they were backed off to run fourcor less. Hell they all made Wellington in 2hrs or less. Those were Gravy trains.
That was a long one. Those cooling fans must be working hard to cool those traction motors. Good video.

@@anscrailfanner6812 pretty sure they came from Martin Marietta. They usually load up on 40 cars at a time at that facility.

Yeah, railfanning isn't as fun as it used to be since PSR bought a lot of changes across the country over these last several years.
Looks/sounds like that train is on a downgrade - so what you're hearing is dynamic brakes.
