    So as someone who used to struggle with drug addiction, but then became a teacher, some of the people who go through absolute hell like RDJ are stronger than most other people. If you can hit rock bottom, and then springboard your way back up to the top within a decade, you've succeeded as long as you don't fall back into bad habits. He had every reason to walk out of the interview. Personally, I would have said something along the lines of "that was in the past, and has no bearing on my life currently. My motivations for making Age of Ultron were to make money and give people an entertaining movie they could spend a couple hours watching." Then I would have let him continue.

    The best questions an interviewer can ask are ones that haven't been asked before, but also explore the public person they already are, or what they do. For example, if I ever interviewed Billy Joel, I'd ask him, "If Piano Man wasn't your signature song, what do you think it would be?" It's related to his music career, doesn't get into his personal life, or question decisions he's made, and it's not something people would know.

    • @katrabbit
      @katrabbit 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I agree. That's a great question. It's open ended enough and it's not heavy or personal.
      You could use the same sort of questioning line with actors and ask "If you could play any kind of character you haven't played already, who would they be?"

    I think the Tom Hardy interview panel question was both worded incorrectly and taken wrong because of the already irritating nature of many journalists questioning his sexuality.
    He would rightly be annoyed that some people can't differentiate between an actors character and their own personal life.
    And the journalist sounded a little nervous and may have worded the question differently than what they intended... Considering the framing was asking a single person if he finds it difficult for others to discuss *their* sexuality... he is only one person and can only speak on his own feelings about discussing sexuality with media, which is why Tom replied with " _I_ don't find it difficult for celebrities to talk about _their_ sexuality"
    and "Are you asking me about _my_ sexuality?"

    • @VerySpecialMuffins
      @VerySpecialMuffins 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If they were asking this question to a person who is very open/public about their sexuality it wouldn't be weird but in this case it very much is. I'm sure they meant well but if you ask this question to a person who hasn't expressed anything of the sort, it will just make them feel awkward as it implies that they are comfortable with talking about it. Because why else would you ask them about their thoughts about others' comfort in talking about their sexuality. I'm sure Tom Hardy was just thinking "Why on earth is he asking 'me' about this?".

    • @katrabbit
      @katrabbit 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@VerySpecialMuffins Exactly my point, yes. It could have been phrased differently or at least given some context from the journalist stating that they are an LGBTQ news source and that is why they would be asking about discussing sexuality in media since his character was a gay man in the movie.
      The fact it came so far from left field and seemed more to do with _his_ personal sexuality is what would be frustrating as an actor to hear over and over again.

    About Ruben confusing Jackson for Fishburne it wouldn't be his last time confusing people of other ethnicities. It happened at least 2 times with Kpop groups as well (at least that I know of). Imagine having famous guests over for an interview and not even bothering to learn their names or anything that defines them beforehand.
    And before anyone jumps at me with the classic "Yeah but Asian names are so hard" or "All Asians look the same" or "They change their hair colors so often", it's his job to learn this. A lot of Korean artists use stage names or at least have nicknames, so it can't be that hard.

    Since you asked if we've ever met any of the celebrities, I saw Jonah Hill at a grocery store in Los Angeles last year. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
    He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
    I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
    The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
    When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I did not notice myself but my Dad pointed out that Rickles took cuts at everyone on the panel except Groucho. Even Rickles did not want to exchange insults with the man who invented that. To attack Hanoi Jane was the least of the idiocy of some of these people. Who would be dumb enough to exchange adlibs with Jim Carey. Maybe they should take on Robin Williams or Jonathan Winters next. I saw Winters destroy Jack Parr once and Parr was an expert.

    I thought the context of the Jim Carey interview started out that way because the interviewer asked something about having a date to the event and it was well known that his partner at the time had just committed suicide and her family was coming after him for a wrongful death lawsuit. So the comment was in bad taste by the interviewer and he was just responding in kind.

      The Scarlett Johansson one was specifically about what underwear she wore while filming. A little weird. And typically her costars got other more thoughtful questions along with questions about their work out routines, so she was probably annoyed that she didn't get the other questions as much as she did just those about her body and underwear.
      And the Anne Hathaway one kinda also seemed like she was just over that interviewer in general, she made a joke out of it at least. But hers was a little more realistic as it was about her fitness and health routine to prepare for the role.
