2024 is the year I'll read Will and Testament! Happy to see Forbidden Notebook on your list, I never got around to it last year but bought it soon after its release - might be one I save for closer to my yearly Italy trip in the summer. Magda Szabo is just stellar! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on Boulder even if I didn't enjoy it (I much preferred Permafrost - curious to hear what you think of it). Still Born is on my shelf as well and looking forward to reading it!
We love an extravaganza of books! I was mesmerised by 'Is Mother Dead' so need to read that other novel by Hjorth. Totally agree that 'Forbidden Notebook' is deceptively simple. I'm so eager to read the novel by her that's been newly translated. I just got an advance copy of Baltasar's new novel, the third book in her thematic trilogy which I think is coming out in August. Exciting! 'Still Born' was also shortlisted for the International Booker. The Women's Prize for Fiction lists would probably often look completely different if translated fiction was eligible.
Oh- so excited for the new Baltasar and de Cespedes novels! And I think I was doing the Booker International a disservice by doubting that they chose two such strong books by women this last year!
Morisaki Bookshop sounds delightful. I loved being reminded of the Vigdis Hjorth I read this yr. What an experience! 😊. A Silence Shared sounds just fascinating. Guadalupe Nettel: this has reminded me to seek out any other translated fiction by Nettel. Recently, I read After The Winter. Fascinating - the way this story is put together and told.
Please disregard this if you're not interested, just thought I'd let you know that Vigdis Hjort is pronounced Vigg-diss Yort 🙂Great list, thanks for sharing!

The only one of these I've read is Boulder which I absolutely loved. So this has left me wanting to read most of the rest of these.

I appreciate you reading more of her work and sharing your insights! And yes, I need more Nettel!
Thank you. I ❤ translated fiction. I enjoyed The Morisaki Bookshop..thanks to your recommendation.
I’m delighted to hear that! And I think a sequel to that book is coming out soon.
Fabulous list of recommendations! I love everything about you...style books and energy❤
Thank you!
Thank you for this stack of videos, and expanding my TBR. ❤
You are very welcome!

THANK YOU!
No The Evenings by Gerard Reve on your list, and rightly so! 😖
No- too dark!
FYI- The Women's Prize doesn't consider translated novels. 😘
Thank you. And they are wrong to not include translated fiction, clearly. 😉
@@HardcoverHearts 🤣 well, nonfiction added this year, so maybe in 2025!
