I actually kind of prefer the comic version of Shane over the show and think that it's actually more realistic. It just feels a lot more grounded, natural, and organic with the way it plays out. Imagine if you're camping out in the woods in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. There would probably be that one guy who is convinced that the government and military are coming to stop the outbreak and rescue them to the point that he's just delusional and completely blind to the reality of the situation, and once he realizes that they're not and the government has more than likely collapsed, he just can't handle the truth that the world has basically ended because he's so in denial and just has a complete mental breakdown. The comics also focused a lot more on the psychological impact that the apocalypse has on people and how it deteriorates their mental health, and Shane is an example of how it can alter even good people's morality and make them do things you never could've imagined they would do. Him trying to kill Rick was a lot more creepy and unsettling in the comics because he just suddenly snaps and goes absolutely insane. Plus, Rick and Tyreese's friendship wouldn't have worked as well if Shane was kept around longer.
I agree with you about the show being better than the comic with the first season. Shane snapping and losing it so fast. I didnt expect him to be offed by Carl even before they left camp. Also, Amy's death was sadder in the show because of her reanimation and Andrea's reaction. While I like comic Andrea waaaay better, the first season Andrea in the show was really good imo. I agree everything moved way too fast in the first volume. It also slowed by the prison arc in the comics. The show did a lot better, and that was definitely character development and drama. Love your videos!!
The comics were so good at setting up these terrifying scenes that showed you how messed up stuff had become. The gore and horror they could show in art but couldn’t get away with in the show does tell a lot
The whole drama and confrontation between Rick and Shane is far better executed in the show. The comic book version is serviceable as a standalone and for what it was back then but it really pales in comparison next to the tv series, especially the climax

@@Swell-Films I had an idea of making a video that covers a complete timeline of the walking dead comic and the telltale game since we see several characters from the comics make appearances in the game. But you could have that idea for another video. Another games that takes place in the comic-verse is saints and sinners, I think?
15:06 - i would personally not count that mobile game as canon. While there's a small chance it's the same man that shot Rick...the likelihood is just not there. It also makes the world feel so small if it was him.
At the time, and still to this day, I thank Walking Dead for making a zombie story that focused on humans and how they would react in the situation. Plenty of zombie media before TWD were mostly just action horror where we witness a bunch of underdeveloped people just go from set piece to set piece until they are picked off. While there is nothing wrong with it, I always found it hard to care about these characters dying because at most we'd get 5 minutes in the beginning where the story humanizes them and that's it. TWD made me care for these characters, so I'd actually get upset when one of the longer staring characters kicked the bucket.
13:07 I love this story but it's absurd to think rain (even heavy rain) would wash away the smell so quickly that it would be an issue. This was obviously a way to lessen the likelihood of characters being able to always do this trick to avoid all walkers but it's a bit lazy from a writing prospective. All in all this concept shouldn't have been explored this early on into the comic, cause it does beg the question...why not do it literally all the time? Like the whisper group. The shear number of times this knowledge would've saved someone...; it pretty much would've ended the apocalypse imo.
Not gonna lie I like the comic version alittle bit more. Carl got early develop on how to survive and protect his loved ones. Shane got disrespected alright but still that is just for character development.
@@Swell-Films that's a shame, maybe some day with enough pestering hell release or write out a one shot, think I read recently that's why he wrote the ricks brother spin off because people kept asking where ricks brother was
they both definitely have pros and cons. in many story arcs the show drags it on for far to long, while others the comics shoot past what could've been an extended arc. With (in my opinion) Shane being the best example of both at the same time.
honestly, im surprised not alot of people bring up kirkmans ""style"" of writing, its quite similar to emil pagliarulo, abd they act very similar when confronted about their awful choices of story. ie, kirkman prefering to skip over the start of the apocalypse after showing what its like, just so we can get right to the "muh survivel uv da feetist" crap kirkman loves, boring human vs human conflict instead of human vs zombie. oh, and the whole "theres no zombie stories either" is complete and utter bs because, culturally speaking, the entire world has been influenced by culture & myths since 4500bce. people not being able to think of zombies or anything similar to them, shows a weird lack of imagination and narrow-sightedness, something that 100% shouldve played into the story, like not being able to think of how to deal with walkers by covering yourself in blood & actual poop, the earlier seasons couldve been interesting. imagine a world where no actually one knows what zombies are, because that isnt the walking dead, i swear everyone becomes survivalist experts within a few days of the apocalypse 😅 no trial and error, just "quick we gotta keep the story moving! keep it simple, just make everyone instantly know how to deal with zombies in a world where those dont exist purely due to writers preference."
I read the entire og collection from beginning to end, finding the black and white cool but a little straining. shortly thereafter they released the complete color version 🫥

I’d pay for you to cover the full comic I been watching Twd since 2012 but can’t sit down to read the comics love the show and love the videos I watch about the comics though
Thanks for watching! I’m definitely planning on continuing!
Honestly I quite like the idea that the virus were sent by aliens. Too bad it was never made canon.
7:19 wait a sec is that homer simpson? (On the right on one of the bilbords)
Always felt sorry for that poor horse. Unless the owners left the water running it probably wouldve been lost from dehydration in the Georgia heat or when its paddock ran out of grass. But then it got taken away and consumed by a horde. Poor thing was doomed either way.
Been hipped to the book way b4 the show
I wonder how many people can actually say that
Have you ever played the telltale TWD game
Yes many times! Such an amazing series
@@Swell-Films can you cover telltale TWD game series?
@@Swell-Films I had an idea of making a video that covers a complete timeline of the walking dead comic and the telltale game since we see several characters from the comics make appearances in the game. But you could have that idea for another video. Another games that takes place in the comic-verse is saints and sinners, I think?
Please do the same with the first episodes of Fear!!! (the initial days of the fall) ...
More comic book stuff please
15:06 - i would personally not count that mobile game as canon. While there's a small chance it's the same man that shot Rick...the likelihood is just not there. It also makes the world feel so small if it was him.
You should keep going.
Hope to see more story telling of the rest of TWD🛐
13:07 I love this story but it's absurd to think rain (even heavy rain) would wash away the smell so quickly that it would be an issue. This was obviously a way to lessen the likelihood of characters being able to always do this trick to avoid all walkers but it's a bit lazy from a writing prospective.
All in all this concept shouldn't have been explored this early on into the comic, cause it does beg the question...why not do it literally all the time? Like the whisper group. The shear number of times this knowledge would've saved someone...; it pretty much would've ended the apocalypse imo.
they blew through that so fast, i don't like reading either
The story is very fast pace up until they reach the prison
Just bought Project Zomboid after watching your videos and few gaming videos ... not disappointed
Absolutely adore the quiet moments in zomboid really helps you cool down from how intense it can be at times lol
I hope they create a Crossed series. That'd be real awesome
Not gonna lie I like the comic version alittle bit more. Carl got early develop on how to survive and protect his loved ones. Shane got disrespected alright but still that is just for character development.
Glenn a chad fr in both versions
How come i never heard of the walking dead until the tv show was released.
The weather confuses me because I thought Rick woke from his coma in the summer/fall. Where’d the snow come from was there a time lapse ?
Have they ever released any of the original night of the living dead concept, not the 5 pages but the one with the NOTLD news anchor
From my research, the only image I could find was with the news anchor. I don’t think it’s been fully released sadly
@@Swell-Films that's a shame, maybe some day with enough pestering hell release or write out a one shot, think I read recently that's why he wrote the ricks brother spin off because people kept asking where ricks brother was
I the good Ole days.
Can you continue this with breaking down volume 2?
Yup! Volume 2 is on my list for one of the next few videos
They def killed Shane too early.
😊 TY 😊
Can you find the first issue draft online ?
I also Def prefer the show of that. You're whole "rushed and underdeveloped" part is right.
Kinda forgot comic writers and artists aren’t the same person
dont dead open inside
AMY POOR AMY
I hate how Rick died at the end of the comic
👏👏👏👏
14:19 WoOdS
Oh thats vore, thats vore on my youtube shorts
The show is better than the comics in a way
they both definitely have pros and cons. in many story arcs the show drags it on for far to long, while others the comics shoot past what could've been an extended arc. With (in my opinion) Shane being the best example of both at the same time.
More
Imo the comics will always be better than the show
I like original artist better
honestly, im surprised not alot of people bring up kirkmans ""style"" of writing, its quite similar to emil pagliarulo, abd they act very similar when confronted about their awful choices of story.
ie, kirkman prefering to skip over the start of the apocalypse after showing what its like, just so we can get right to the "muh survivel uv da feetist" crap kirkman loves, boring human vs human conflict instead of human vs zombie.
oh, and the whole "theres no zombie stories either" is complete and utter bs because, culturally speaking, the entire world has been influenced by culture & myths since 4500bce.
people not being able to think of zombies or anything similar to them, shows a weird lack of imagination and narrow-sightedness, something that 100% shouldve played into the story, like not being able to think of how to deal with walkers by covering yourself in blood & actual poop, the earlier seasons couldve been interesting.
imagine a world where no actually one knows what zombies are, because that isnt the walking dead, i swear everyone becomes survivalist experts within a few days of the apocalypse 😅
no trial and error, just "quick we gotta keep the story moving! keep it simple, just make everyone instantly know how to deal with zombies in a world where those dont exist purely due to writers preference."
Not everyone becomes a survivalist,
The people who don't usually die
These videos help me realize both the show and the comics suck. Lol. Kirkman copied 28 Days Later.
I think it was confirmed they were both in development at the same time.
Hey I love your vids could I pleeeeeeeeease have a shout out🙏🙏🙏🙏
Bababooey
sorry man your conept for the comic isn't normal and classic . sorry man your concept for the comeic is to normal
Pretty much lol
The TV show turned me off after several episodes, it just pales in comparison with the original comic book.
It's always the early days of the outbreak/apocalypse that's more entertaining in zombie media. Imo, that's why seaon 1 still holds up to this day.
I read the entire og collection from beginning to end, finding the black and white cool but a little straining.
shortly thereafter they released the complete color version 🫥
Would definitely love more of these comic explained/telling a Twd comics have my fave zombie art and Twd means the world to me I love seeing other people who love it too
