About the 3d cutscenes: I can understand someone who didn't play the game 25 years ago would have preferred redone cutscenes, but I can say I prefer that they haven't touched them beyond upscaling and cleaning them up a bit. The whole point of this remaster is to give the fans a huge nostalgia boner while also poking the interest of new players. Changing the cutscenes would have caused a bit of a backlash I think.
Redo the cutscenes in render animation would be look so cheap and lost the original charm. It's the best to keep the original look and make it looks more cleaner and modern.
As someone who didn't play the originals 'til..... 2011 I think, I can say I certainly prefer the old 3D cutscenes, compared to what I imagine a redone looking like. (Then again, I'm the guy who thinks windows XP looks better than new version aesthetically)
Perhaps with that one they may take a look at a notable mod based mainly on the expansion, mental omega, altough for me that collab seems to be stuck in 3.3.4 with the last missions on the campaign being still on development, the can look at it on how to expand the games, bringing an old game to modern day will being completely staying true to its original is great, adding more things that weren't previously there will be even better. Like i in the mod i mentioned there is a soviet mission set in washington dc. And the maps size is HUGE it includes the skirmish multiplayer map wish is also tbe base for many missions in ra2 alongside the alexandria part with the soviet mission 1 and allied mission 6 plus many other thing including the capitol.
Yes these are classics. But these 2's gameplay have dated significantly. RA2 and Tib Sun have gameplay that hasn't dated as much and are still fun to play compared to RA1 and Tib Dawn. But one of the council members said that if the remaster does well we might get a Tib Sun, RA2 remaster and hopefully they include the same quality of life changes.

I have a theory that the politics of it include EA almost literally begging Petroglyph to fix the toy they broke. Right down to the choosing the original EA logo for the menus while Westwood is replaced by Petroglyph and Lemon Sky. It's to show that Petroglyph is a phoenix, rising from the ashes, and EA is a hollow shell of what it once was.
My hopes were very pretty low, after seeing the first screen-shots. The buildings looked too clean and plastic-toy like. But seeing the release, major props to the developers on keeping the original style/flair. Similar releases like the most recent AoE2 remaster suffered in this department in my opinion.
Yeah I think they achieved a great feat by keeping it authentic. I don't agree on Aoe2 (i think it looks great) - but I definitely get what you mean. There are some graphical parts I don't like, more with AoE1 definitive
I love aoe 2 DE graphic upgrade actually, it looks way much better than the original...however tho, the attack animations for melee units and Idle animation definitely look worse than the original
@@TheBikeOnTheMoon Yeah, the actual models look great, but every single animation I've seen, from combat to moving to idling to even the buildings collapsing, just seem _wrong_ to me. They're _too_ clean, _too_ smooth, it falls right in the uncanny valley.
@@matsu11177 sure Generals was different, but it's as much of a Command and Conquer game as the rest of the series. Generals definitely deserves a remaster.
currently existing C&C 4 should probably have been renamed as C&C Arena, for example, just like how Generals & ZH are different from the original C&C series, C&C 4 doesn't fit in and should have been categorized in a new different C&C branch
C&C was my gateway to gaming and I love how the Remastered Collection turned out. Inexplicably EA did everything right, from licensing Petrglyph, to the Community Council. It's so strange but so good.
EA has done good twice now, This is pretty much unheard of and maybe, just maybe, they have gotten their heads out of their asses. First: Jedi Fallen Order Now: CnC Remastered keep it up!
Jedi Fallen Order that is a pure Respawn try hard work after Apex lose its player base real fast because of cheaters and server problem where EA not even give a crap to help (the same as they left BF series dev suffer from the same problem). when c&c remastered this the long hard work from the group of die hard fans and old staffs from original Westwood studio. EA only publish it and get the money from copy right.
Sorry but your statement is a joke. I wont be recommending this game to anybody. It lags and its bad. The game hardly can take 20 tanks at a time without the game lagging. Horrible remaster. Youre out of your mind,
First EA game I bought since 2007. They finally did what made them great back in the day - let the developers do what they love. The "installation" part set the tone for a renewed and rejuvenated experience. The graphics are fantastic and the music is simply awesome. Best nostalgia moment I've had in a long time.
The original 3d cutsences are actually what i love the most, as it gives a really nice nostalgia feeling to see these again. The selling of all buildings to get troops just to lose the game is a bit wrong. This a mechanic from back in the day, when the AI realizes it has lost, it will forfeit by selling all buildings, as there is no button or option to just give up. Same happens in AOE2 DE, the AI will destroy all military buildings if it has lost all or most of its Town centers and Villagers. The only major flaw I have encountered to far is the difficulty setting for the campaign (havent tried custom games). As it kinda feels like its as follows: on causual all your units/buildings have 50% more hp, on hard all your units/buildings have 50% less hp. Which makes the nod campaign in certain missions impossible. And no its not whining, if someone knows how to win the steal orca mission on hard or the first nod commando mission, feel free to link me a video or guide to it. I have tried for hours, but those pesky airstrikes ruin the mission every time...
The remastered games are absolutely GORGEOUS looking. And so crisp and fluent. Yes, there are the tiny glitches here and there but that is in my opinion to be expected on some levels. Not all pc setups are the same, so there are bound to be some tweaking that needs to happen. But the by far overall impression is amazing. And yes, I do indeed hope that they will remaster Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2. It is worth it and I believe EA hopefully sees it an acknowledges it. It's like old vintage movies -- classics -- that's being brushed up in HD. They do sell, because there are still those old enough to remember them -- and hopefully younger people who too will enjoy these old classics that paved the way for the modern games.
I never played C&C beyond some games of Yuri's Revenge at a friend's house... But this game blows my socks off. I love how the micro plays in Tiberium Dawn, the feel of the game, the setting, everything just puts this massive grin on my face while I play. Westwood were amazing to make a game of this quality back in the 90s, and I'm very happy I was able to enjoy it through such a faithful remaster years later when I'm getting into the RTS genre again.
EA has done a number of good things recently. Does anyone know if there were top-level changes there maybe 5 years ago? There seems to have been a priority change from revenue to good product.
Its hard to believe that ea were kind enough to release a full source code on github of this remaster. Its truly amazing what they have done, not even blizzard would have the balls to do a thing like this.
"... to release a full source code ..." - they released only the engine and not the assets (to prevent people to just build it from source instead of buying). Which is not a bad thing at all.
They were thinking about updating the AI to have better path finding and make better decisions but they found that the game is so tightly balanced on the way the AI currently works that when they changed even a little thing it had a lot of unintended effects on the the game. In the end they decided to leave the AI as it was in 1995/6 because to change it they’d have to rebuild it all from the ground up and at that point it’s not even a “remaster” anymore it’s a “remake” and that’s not what they wanted
Համուրաբի I literally explained why that can’t do that. But hey, the game is open source so if fans what to have a go at making mods to fix that then they can.
Hello I am a 74 year old man from Uruguay, and can I just say that I love your content! The deep philosophical barriers really reflect on what post war modernism has done to the average psyche. Your in depth arguments truly evoke discussion, for example in this video you commented on the obscenity of the war on drugs in Switzerland. What an amazing statement! Please continue what you are doing... the world needs people like you (nice vid btw)
My dream: Petroglyph gets the backing and green light to make something Empire at War related. A sequel, or remaster (PLEASE CHANGE THE LAND COMBAT THO! xD )
the review might be just him nitpicking smaller details but i can respect his opinion, the real key of remaster is this... they bundled in two greatest ip and just give the fans back the way they wanted not what the publisher wanted this is why this succeed is because they listen to the fans at least this only franchise wasn't ruin because of stupid promises you can immediately tell the developers have fun making this for 2nd time. incase people forget EA has been spoiling fans alot...
I was hoping it would be a bit smoother to play... more shortcut keys and better scrolling/contolling funtionality.. hoping to give it a blast in the coming weeks and see how it goes.. the pathing does look tricky on some maps I suppose that means have a wider base and better placed buildings on the main part tho.. I guess a big bonus is player base too
I am so happy to see how well this remaster turned out. I am having a blast playing it and hoping to be able to see a Tiberian Sun remaster sometime. This review is spot on, amazing work Zade! -0pticalstatic
As a 16 year old boy that came from RA3 (don’t hate I was quite young at the time) and my dad coming from RA, RAII and Starcraft, I think I would like to try this and potentially get a physical/collective copy for my dad. Thanks for the video
13:40 "With success we've seen here, I think it is less of a pipe dream than some of you might think" Hope is a first step on the road to disappointment, as a smart librarian once said.
One the most important note is that key members of Westwood worked on this remastered version. Regarding the 3D cut scenes I can imagine that they kept it on purpose that way for nostalgia sake. Just like the main menu, look old and outdated but that is their purpose and gives the players the nostalgia feeling. Which in my opinion is awesome.
The only things I find in the remastered version frustrated is the tweaking in some missions, some of most annoying enemy's units (for example: GDI's grenadier, heroic harvesters which try to crush your infantries everytimes, stealth tanks spamming and so on), pathfinding. But looking all over of these failures, I still love this remastered version. The graphics, the sound, the voices of every characters, units, the difficulty of the challenges, all made this game the perfect nostalgic memory for my inner child.
*loads game for the first time.* "OH they are just 'upgrading the original game.' suuuure" *plays the campaign and gets the upgrade graphics prompt* "Oh it's not going to be thaaat great." *presses space bar and faints from how great the graphics become.*
My dad and I bought 2 of these so we could play like the olden times together while I'm in college. No lie when the servers shut down on the newer games it's been a pain. We use cnc online but always seem to have connection time out issues (generals, Yuri's revenge, red alert 3 etc.). I love how easy it is to connect on the cnc remaster online
this one is long hard work from die hard fan and old staffs of original westwood studio. what ea do is just sell it and take money of copy right. reality not so beautiful isn't it ?
great review also quite interesting to see your opinions on it and I agree I dreaded while I booted the game up cough warcraft 3 cough, but after going into my first mission I was sold if your interested in c&c and how it used to be it is a good recommendation.
i refunded it because they didnt fix my biggest grip, the path finding or wel the unit AI. Like when i ask if a long range unit like the v2 launcher to attack something. He doesnt attack iot from it maxinimun distance. No he is first gonna hug it and then he dies. This is a major problem imo since you cant really rely your units to really defend. Because o found them being attacked by units that were in there range but they didnt attack.
This should be sent to Blizzard as how a re-master SHOULD be done. (I know the Starcraft remaster was technically good, but it lacked the soul and love showing here.) Playing this again feels like I’ve time warped back to my early teens, when I’d volunteer to do house chores for my folks to get more time on the computer to play C&C, memories of which I’m appreciating even more than I normally would, with all that bad stuff in the world going on. I hope they release the new soundtrack to buy, as I’d be all over that in a hot minute! From having done a speed run of GDI/NOD campaigns, and being well into the Allies one, there are a few issues to be made aware of until they can be patched out. Deploying units out of any transport vehicles is rather janky, as double clicking is now also a command to select all units of type on screen. I found moving them to a tile, and then clicking the deploy command just before the unit comes to a stop as a workaround. When commanding groups of units, I’ve found sometimes not all units will attack, and just sit still, some need told a few times! I’ve also found units/static defences ignore hostile technicians/civilians, and need told manually to attack them. Also if you have a large group of units, if they can’t move to where you command and a wall or hostile building is in the way, they open fire on the obstacle, which I guess is the dev’s workaround to stop the player fencing in the AI, which is fine but it needs some tweaking, I’ve almost lost missions as my groups tried blasting buildings I had to capture! I was hoping they would stop the AI building anywhere on the map in single player, but it’s still done, which I’ve found as always really lame. Especially as so many missions you’ve to wipe everything out, then that gun turret hidden behind a tree almost walled off by rocks got re-built miles away from any other structure. Those niggles aside, this is absolutely fantastic work and I’m delighted to see this is topping the Steam sales charts this week, which is no mean feat. Hopefully this tells EA loud and clear there is still huge demand for C&C, and there’s no need to resort to horrible mobile games again. Let’s see the other titles remastered ahead of a brand new entry (or a very heavily redux version of that title of which we never speak about). Happy gaming commanders!
Great review Zade, thanks. What about the whole EVA intro sequence & the Westwood logo, brilliant. I thought for a minute I was going to have to select sound & graphics cards etc :) ~ I love CnC & RA, but my gameplay fav is Generals Zero Hour-the Generals Challenge is the best RTS experience I've ever had. Despite GZH's QoL & other improvements, I've totally enjoyed the ~6 hours I've put into the remaster so far. ~ To new to CnC or RTS players, I say this is a game where the S still features-ie there is strategy involved, rather than most later RTSs which have been much more focused on tactics. ~ To EA, this is superb work, very well done on so many levels. Petroglyph & Frank, you'd done an iconic classic proud, thank you all.
The soundtrack is amazing. I played the game yesterday and had.moments where I simply stopped playing and listened to the music. The quality of sound is really good to the point where you wonder if this is the music for this very game , because the game feels like from a different era, but the music certainly does not. I think the remastered game is a great value .
There are some slight changes in the targeting logic from the A.I. as well as and most notable, airstrikes. The enemy A.I.'s airstrikes are different from the original C&C.
I didn't want to get my hopes up about this release and wasn't expecting to pick it up. Ended up buying it at launch and loving the entire package. My only real issues with the game are like your, with the original base game. Which is hard to hold against a remaster. But that soundtrack alone more than makes up for it.
Felt the same with the gameplay part. I can still recall the hype of playing TD 20 years ago. But I might drop the remaster very fast, because in gameplay and gaming contents, it sure ages and cant keep up with now. I love the way AOE2:DE did, but that's not a fair comparison to begin with. AOE2 has a lot more game depth and content to start with, so it's not hard for AOE2:DE to be more appealing to modern players. So if there will be C&C2 or RA2 remastered, I think that would be a fair match, and these two are also the big boi in the franchises. I hope the dev can execute well, to both keep the charm and core of the original game but also make more changes to update the game plays and feels better in modern standard.
THEY FORGOT TO PUT ON/OFF HIDE FOR SELECTION UNIT LIFEBAR. MUCH BETTER TO WATCH IF SELECTION UNIT LIFEBAR is OFF. ALSO MADE AVAILABLE UNIT TO ITS OPTIONAL HALF SIZE. AND ALSO MADE THE MASSIVE MAP ZOOMABLE IN & OUT. OTHERS ARE EFFECTS NEEDED IN STRUCTURES LIKE FLYING LITTLE DEBRIS AND EXPLOSION FOR A BETTER DETAIL. HOPE THERE WILL BE TRIPLE TURRET FOR ALLIES TO COUNTER SURPRISE THE TESLAS 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
Contender for the GOTY price. This is one of the best remasters ever made, hands down. I bought the standard digital edition, I will buy a physical special edition, if available. This is a childhood gem and it's worth every cent!
LOL give me a break. Buy the C&C bundle pack for $5 somewhere. The only thing new here is playfield graphics. All the things you remember that you hated are still there. Crappy pathfinding, bad AI, etc. Why didn't they redo the cutscenes?
I didnt play multiplayer yet, but i absolutely agree on every aspect of your review of single player mode. I posted basically the same suggestions on steam community forum for c&c. Anyway i'm really enjoying plaing the game :) and the price is very adeguate to the hours of entertainment they give you. P.s. they have to enable right click commands on the minimap. Anctually only legacy left click is working.
My first RTS game was C&C 3. I loved C&C 3 and especially Kanes Wrath. They are smooth to play with great gameplay and solid design, with AI with isn't half bad. Since then I've played a shit ton of RTS games but I can't play games that are too rudimentary in their design. I was hoping they would take some modern features and pop them in this remaster. They didn't so I can't say I'm interested in it. Maybe if it goes on a major sale on steam in the future I'll take a look
Thank you for the blessing, Zade. Waking up to this review in the morning feels so good. I do hope they remaster the rest of the CnC games (NO TIBERIAN TWILIGHT) and continue the legacy. That said, I hope there are future updates to this game. 1. No Strings Prd. noticed in the first 30 minutes or so, there are stuttering. He said it disappeared when the files are transferred to SSD. Defo optimization issue. 2. I do really wish that they manage to find the original lost tapes of the FMV cutscenes. The remaster looks nice, but it could've been way better with the original tape. 3. Lobby Password feature ples. 4. Release the soundtrack album as a standalone product.
I would want a RA2 remaster next even if only to make it compatible with modern systems. You *can* get RA2 to work better than the 1990's classics, but only just, I still get constant lockups on anything that isn't running Ares and/or CNCnet clients.
The AI selling their buildings at the end for a final attack is a feature so the game ends quicker. Otherwise you end up hunting down single riflemen all over the map. It's not consider a 'good strategic choice', just the method of surrender.
My issue was how unfair some of the campaign missions in red alert 1 were. Like there was a mission as the allies and i had to capture a building. But there was also an Iron Curtain and a Nuke Silo, so i send a large force round the back of the Soviet base to destroy these buildings. I succeeded. Not 5 minutes later the AI sends a mammoth tank to my base that is protected by iron curtain and they drop a nuke still anyway. Like, neither of those buildings were on the map anymore and the AI got to use them anyway.
Yes, it still is! There's a few other projects that have pushed themselves into the schedule though. So ya still planned, just not sure when I'll get to it right now :)
Your late Zade! I already have a couple hundred hours playing all the campaigns. But as usual, you have done a really fine job. Thanks for your good work. FYI it also already has some good mods.
The part you mentioned where the AI sells everything is a means to end a mission quicker in Red Alert. It's essentially a last ditch effort and also so you're not searching the map for that 1 unit that is hiding on the map like in Tiberium Dawn
AI selling their buildings is a feature added into the remaster to prevent 50 hours of looking for a random ore silo tucked in a random part of the map.
If you have any missing functionality that you want to experiment with, I'm going to be playing around with reverse move and some other modern functionality when I get time to study the source code
I like playing the game on my TV and challenging the game the way it was when it first came outi like geting in as close to the other side as I can get to see how fast I can get set up and destroy while defending my base and capturing the other sides base
Excellent review, and some very good points as well! I played the remaster recently, and I was very pleased to be back, seeing familiar faces, those iconic tunes, it felt kind of surreal! I love the graphics, and I love the new soundtrack as well, but I agree with you that they nailed the original AI so well, that it feels a little aged, haha. This won't be an issue in Multiplayer, but the simple AI brought back memories, to the point where I would urge new players to micro-manage when they can, because one thing I kinda wish the remaster had, was attack stances and waypoints etc. that you see in more modern RTS games (or even on Open RA). Despite this, I am overall very happy with the end product, and I would actually love to see a new C&C game done in this style, with new missions, units, music etc! Here's hoping more great things will follow!
Things i wish theyd add: Zoom out a little more, still feels too close. set rally point. swop between main menus without exiting. Be able to play all factions and maps in multiplayer and skirmish. i wanna have Nod Vs Soviets All in all tho Awesome stuff loving it
You can't set a rally point for buildings, you could do that in the original games....select building, then left or right click on the ground.....cant remember which. Also pretty sure attack move was also possible - you used to do this to squash troops (Ctrl + Shift + Left/Right click if I remember correctly - the cursor changes colour...maybe this was RA2 only?)
Well done Petroglyph, you have my respect! Kudos to all of your members for bringing us this masterpiece! Now we want a remastered Tiberian Sun and a Brand new C&C rts game!! ✌
I'm hoping that when they decided to remaster red alert 2, not only they remaster the visuals and audio, but also improve the multiplayer matchup with today's modern architecture. people do appreciate a remaster, but a good multiplayer ranking system would last this game for years.
It still has a lot of issues. In fifth mission, Khakis Island, the game glitched and I couldn't finish the mission. All victory conditions have been meet, but the game went on! That was rather an anticlimactic end of my run to finish all of red alert at first try.
I was so psyched when this was announced, and that they were getting petroglyph, and Frank and all the good stuff they were doing... My only issue, is that it absolutely plays like a game that came out in 1995. While it looks nice (And yes, I know how much trouble they went through to get everything *just* right), a little modernization goes a long way. Attack Move, AI pathing, etc... All stuff you covered though. They did a lot of stuff right with the remaster though, and that honestly can't be argued.
If this is what the remaster for RA1 and CNC TD is like, i'm very hopeful for the next phase. The Mental Omega guys and twisted insurrection folks have been doing MARVELOUS things for those games and i would love to see those two mods assimilated into those remasters.
i have both tiberian dawn and red alert 1 on playstation they was a lot of fun when i was a little kid well specially red alert 1 since only few mission worked on tiberian dawn, the CD was a mass with a lot of scars and marks so did red alert 1 but it had skirmish and i had a lot of fun with that most of my life like red alert 1 was like a backup game if something happened to my desktop pc and i like the remaster

Unravel, Unravel Two, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, NFS Heat was great, too. Battlefront 2 became great after updates.
Don't forget they finally are back on Steam.
We're in the middle of EA's redemption arc it seems. I hope it lasts a while.
I hope so. They look like they're turning a new leaf! I can hope, anyways
I must be imagining things did.... EA doing right thing while blizzard gone worst did someone went back in time?
EA used their RL Chronospere
It must be KANE!
Sorry but your statement is a joke. I wont be recommending this game to anybody. It lags and its bad. The game hardly can take 20 tanks at a time without the game lagging. Horrible remaster.
Youre out of your mind,
@@JoHn-if6wy maybe time to upgrade your computer? Lol
First EA game I bought since 2007. They finally did what made them great back in the day - let the developers do what they love. The "installation" part set the tone for a renewed and rejuvenated experience. The graphics are fantastic and the music is simply awesome. Best nostalgia moment I've had in a long time.
Glad you enjoyed!
You didn't even buy Spore?
Completed it
The remastered games are absolutely GORGEOUS looking.
Soldier!!!! What is that?
That's the Enemy's Construction Yard
No, that's 2500 dollars!!!!
I just wish they had at least improve the path finding a bit
"Don't walk through Tiberium it's radioactive and will kill you."
Ground units: "Pretty green rock huehue"
My thoughts exactly
@@PepicWalrus Minigunner: "heh heh. Geiger counter go ticktcktckctkckkcktck."
YES.!!! A LOT TO BE DONE. 😄😊👌👍
Maybe they'll make a remake sometime to sort that & other gameplay issues. Problem is, would that lose the unique ethos-charm of CnC?
I wish they had added things like waypoints, attack move, and patrolling as optional additions.
Can we have the real C&C 4 now?
EA has done a good job for once?!
Somethings wrong i can feel it.
Relax,
this is just 2020...
EVERYTHING IS WRONG!!!!
EA has done a number of good things recently. Does anyone know if there were top-level changes there maybe 5 years ago? There seems to have been a priority change from revenue to good product.
@@silversolver7809 Well, those to can go hand in hand though. Maybe they're realized that they can make more money by keeping their customers happy.
It’s 2020 everything’s backwards.
let me know when the re master RA2 and RA2:YR... I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Me too!
It's a really cool move, for sure. EA... good?
@@Zade_95 Kinda.
One good deed doesn't make you good as one bad deed doesn't make you bad :-)
They were thinking about updating the AI to have better path finding and make better decisions but they found that the game is so tightly balanced on the way the AI currently works that when they changed even a little thing it had a lot of unintended effects on the the game.
In the end they decided to leave the AI as it was in 1995/6 because to change it they’d have to rebuild it all from the ground up and at that point it’s not even a “remaster” anymore it’s a “remake” and that’s not what they wanted
They could have just upgrade the player-side pathfinding algorithm and retain the old pathfinding to the AI so nothing will go wrong.
👍👍👍👍👍
They could at least have fixed the AI so it could attack walls/sandbags, that stuff is still broken
Համուրաբի I literally explained why that can’t do that.
But hey, the game is open source so if fans what to have a go at making mods to fix that then they can.
Lets be honest, this wasn't focused on gaining a new audience. It's for the veterans
Very true
I got my son s copy, he's 15. He loves it....and already got one of his friends into it!
@@BastardBrad i think a lot of dads will do the same and make a new generation of fans.
NEED TIB SUN. the freeware one aint cutting it- but i hope for a ground up remake.
A sequel, or remaster (PLEASE CHANGE THE LAND COMBAT THO! xD )
do NOT tease me with an Empire at War sequel :P
the review might be just him nitpicking smaller details but i can respect his opinion, the real key of remaster is this... they bundled in two greatest ip and just give the fans back the way they wanted not what the publisher wanted this is why this succeed is because they listen to the fans at least this only franchise wasn't ruin because of stupid promises you can immediately tell the developers have fun making this for 2nd time. incase people forget EA has been spoiling fans alot...
I guess a big bonus is player base too
My thoughts exactly, but you voiced them with much more eloquence. Great review for a wonderful trip down memory lane.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed mate
I will humble brag and say that I was the one that suggested that they updated the HUD to a more C&C 3 style one
I am so happy to see how well this remaster turned out. I am having a blast playing it and hoping to be able to see a Tiberian Sun remaster sometime. This review is spot on, amazing work Zade! -0pticalstatic
Glad to hear man! Appreciate you watching :)
As a 16 year old boy that came from RA3 (don’t hate I was quite young at the time) and my dad coming from RA, RAII and Starcraft, I think I would like to try this and potentially get a physical/collective copy for my dad. Thanks for the video
That's awesome dude. Thank you for watching!
iam sure he would love that.
You can set a rally points in Red Alert. you have to click on the building and right click the area you want to rally.
13:40 "With success we've seen here, I think it is less of a pipe dream than some of you might think"
Hope is a first step on the road to disappointment, as a smart librarian once said.
13:17 I feel it to, watching that Westwood logo in 4k was everything!
Flipping from HD into the much loved old graphics makes me think I've got chlorine in my eyes
This plus the Age of Empires remasters just makes me giddy.
I know right. Glad they both stuck the landing! Unlike some other remasters recently....
*loads game for the first time.*
"OH they are just 'upgrading the original game.' suuuure"
*plays the campaign and gets the upgrade graphics prompt*
"Oh it's not going to be thaaat great."
*presses space bar and faints from how great the graphics become.*
i thought my game was broken without the new graphics
then i pressed space
and i saw the light
My dad and I bought 2 of these so we could play like the olden times together while I'm in college. No lie when the servers shut down on the newer games it's been a pain. We use cnc online but always seem to have connection time out issues (generals, Yuri's revenge, red alert 3 etc.). I love how easy it is to connect on the cnc remaster online
EA is slowly reearning my respect
I will consider thus proper atonement for closing Westwood, C&C4 Tiberium Twilight, and Mobile game Rivals.
It's only one game and we can thank the developers. Got a looooooong while to get to anything but pure distain for EA.
This is a step in the right direction though.
this one is long hard work from die hard fan and old staffs of original westwood studio. what ea do is just sell it and take money of copy right. reality not so beautiful isn't it ?
great review also quite interesting to see your opinions on it and I agree I dreaded while I booted the game up cough warcraft 3 cough, but after going into my first mission I was sold if your interested in c&c and how it used to be it is a good recommendation.
Thank you!
i refunded it because they didnt fix my biggest grip, the path finding or wel the unit AI.
I hope they remastered command & conquer generals and zero hour. my fav in the series.
Me too!
Great review Zade, thanks.
What about the whole EVA intro sequence & the Westwood logo, brilliant. I thought for a minute I was going to have to select sound & graphics cards etc :)
~
I love CnC & RA, but my gameplay fav is Generals Zero Hour-the Generals Challenge is the best RTS experience I've ever had. Despite GZH's QoL & other improvements, I've totally enjoyed the ~6 hours I've put into the remaster so far.
~
To new to CnC or RTS players, I say this is a game where the S still features-ie there is strategy involved, rather than most later RTSs which have been much more focused on tactics.
~
To EA, this is superb work, very well done on so many levels.
Petroglyph & Frank, you'd done an iconic classic proud, thank you all.
Thank you! Glad to hear you're enjoying it
The soundtrack is amazing.
Glad you're liking it! I know right. $20 album with free game :D
Let's hope they also remaster Tiberium Sun.
Goddddd i hope so!
Use to play this back in the day.
So bought this on steam. So far love it and very nostalgic for me...
Hopefully this will revive the base building RTS genre, haven't seen a game like it since "Grey Goo", hint hint :D
it is literally on my list LUL but i have it planned out for a while :P
Nothing but love for this remaster. Lots of memories of ps1 link cable and having mates over from school. C&C retaliation next please
it has all the retaliation content like tesla tanks and chrono tanks. even the missions.
Glad you enjoy man. I agree with all those !
@@Zade_95 finally installed the gift, and I was smirking heavily seeing the "Upgrade" sequences of both games.
maybe MP sessions sometime? :b :b
The gameplay of Tiberian Dawn is outdated and can be a slog once the nostalgia wears off. But Red Alert holds up surprisingly well.
tank rush much?
Check out the Tiberian Dawn Redux mod.
I would want a RA2 remaster next even if only to make it compatible with modern systems. You *can* get RA2 to work better than the 1990's classics, but only just, I still get constant lockups on anything that isn't running Ares and/or CNCnet clients.
Really hoping this success pushes them to do Tiberian sun because that and firestorm are one of my fave C&C
I quite liked the old style cutscenes. Brought back some memories. Although I'm glad they touched up the FMV scenes.
Oh yeah!! Please tiberium sun and Red Alert 2 next!!
They didn't add multiplayer. We multiplayed it in 1995 with serial cable (1v1). So Tiberian Dawn always had multiplayer.
Hey Zade, you mentioned a while back that you had a Dawn of War series overview in the works. Is that still on the agenda for the future?
Yes, it still is! There's a few other projects that have pushed themselves into the schedule though. So ya still planned, just not sure when I'll get to it right now :)
He’s probably talking about Grey Goo :D
Surprised no one brings up how the source code is included with the download. That's a big bonus for budding developers and programmers.
I'm stoked to see TS and RA2 remastered. Maybe have them cleanup and optimize MO?
Your late Zade! I already have a couple hundred hours playing all the campaigns. But as usual, you have done a really fine job. Thanks for your good work. FYI it also already has some good mods.
You know what they say, better late than never! Thanks man :)
The part you mentioned where the AI sells everything is a means to end a mission quicker in Red Alert. It's essentially a last ditch effort and also so you're not searching the map for that 1 unit that is hiding on the map like in Tiberium Dawn
Ahhh interesting. Hilarious either way :P
AI selling their buildings is a feature added into the remaster to prevent 50 hours of looking for a random ore silo tucked in a random part of the map.
idk that sounds fun to me
TD only had support for 4 players whereas RA upped it to larger map sizes and 8 players.
Now all we have to do is wait for Tiberium Sun Remaster and my life will be complete.
TS needs to soooo bad. I can barely run it on Windows 10
Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed it, and the game too
Things i wish theyd add:
Zoom out a little more, still feels too close.
set rally point.
swop between main menus without exiting.
Be able to play all factions and maps in multiplayer and skirmish. i wanna have Nod Vs Soviets
All in all tho Awesome stuff loving it
All those would be nice editions! Mabye some community mods will change that up.
Glad you're enjoying!
Well, the omission of attack move makes this feel almost unplayable. That's how much I'm used to that feature and how long it's existed.
I'm hoping that when they decided to remaster red alert 2, not only they remaster the visuals and audio, but also improve the multiplayer matchup with today's modern architecture. people do appreciate a remaster, but a good multiplayer ranking system would last this game for years.
Great review Zade!
Thanks boss
Tib Sun and RA2 remasters would make me cry. A new C&C would make me bawl.
It still has a lot of issues. In fifth mission, Khakis Island, the game glitched and I couldn't finish the mission. All victory conditions have been meet, but the game went on! That was rather an anticlimactic end of my run to finish all of red alert at first try.
My only issue is the lack of widescreen support, the console on the right works but the game doesnt extended all the way to the left :(
I love it. I much prefer that they didnt waste time redoing the terrible cut scenes.
What did you say?
I was so psyched when this was announced, and that they were getting petroglyph, and Frank and all the good stuff they were doing...
My only issue, is that it absolutely plays like a game that came out in 1995. While it looks nice (And yes, I know how much trouble they went through to get everything *just* right), a little modernization goes a long way. Attack Move, AI pathing, etc... All stuff you covered though.
They did a lot of stuff right with the remaster though, and that honestly can't be argued.
They should do a remaster on Dune2000 and Emperor: Battle for Dune as well
Oh fuck, yes.
I think there are licensing issues with these titles. But would love to see them redone like this collection.
I want this so badly... it brings back so many great memories... Unfortunately i'm on a mac... Someone needs to make this macbook usable!!!
If this is what the remaster for RA1 and CNC TD is like, i'm very hopeful for the next phase. The Mental Omega guys and twisted insurrection folks have been doing MARVELOUS things for those games and i would love to see those two mods assimilated into those remasters.
That would be something special actually. I'd love to see that
The remastered stayed true to the original and the remix new music is AMAZING! 9/10 from me.
i have both tiberian dawn and red alert 1 on playstation they was a lot of fun when i was a little kid well specially red alert 1 since only few mission worked on tiberian dawn, the CD was a mass with a lot of scars and marks so did red alert 1 but it had skirmish and i had a lot of fun with that most of my life like red alert 1 was like a backup game if something happened to my desktop pc and i like the remaster
