West Ham v Liverpool games were always great games, due to that tight ground. Who is that Sowness fella that Brian says..

Nice to watch football that doesn’t include players falling on the floor rolling around grabbing their faces after being tackled.

Nope there was at least ten occasions when players filled around in pain in this match, the difference is that they carried on playing.

I was at the Btn v B'pool game,a sad day for Albion as they didn't go up on goal difference but 12 months later they were promoted to the old Div1

I was there too, travelled from Portsmouth with a couple of mates who were Blackpool supporters. Nothing at stake for them - or so they thought. It took another week and a half for the season to finish, during which time the six clubs who all needed to win their final games to send Blackpool down did so. For me the saddest part of that afternoon were the rumours of Tottenham losing that swept the ground right until the end, I think some fans were genuinely heartbroken when Alan Mullery came onto the pitch and confirmed that they'd have to wait another year.

Just been watching the 72-73 fixture here. Liverpool has now morphed into this team old & new & West Ham still have Bonds & in the 80s.. presume he's still in the team now! This was always a great fixture in the tight Upton Park & always full & both teams attacked producing great games. All gone now.

Met David Fairclough before the champions league game with Inter last season. What a classy man and a great ambassador for the club.

Brighton didnt go up mate - spurs pipped them on goal difference with a draw at southampton on the same day. (spurs and southampton both needed a point to secure promotion and....surprise surprise...thats what happened).

Rather like Bristol City and Coventry 12 months before when both needed a point to stay up.

Case gets booked - and rightly so - for that very late challenge on Holland, who just gets up and gets on with it. Compare that to nowadays. That's why I prefer vintage footie!

Liverpool improved when they got rid of Sowness and got Souness instead.

I always wonder if players like the kits they wore or how iconic those strips would be?!

Well done itv for nabbing two championship presentations, albeit at nil-nil draws. I wonder what Match of the Day had left to show?

I bet Brighton were pretty gutted, denied a second successive promotion by virtue of goal difference. Though they made up for the disappointment by going up as runners-up the following season.

Is there a reason the Brighton players had different colored numbers? Some of their players are wearing red numbers while others wear black numbers. With all the mud on the field, must be a nightmare for announcers to call the game.

ITV always picked some crap goals in their goal of the season. The following year Tony Currie won against for example Terry McDermott's incredible team goal against Spurs.

Why did Brian Moore call Souness Sow-ness? Weird.

Even weirder was Barry Davis who called Cruyff "Crowff" and said he played for Ajacks! Completely humiliating was when I was sent a letter by Mr Hogsflesh asking me to ring him; I did; I said is Mr Hogsflesh there and after a silence he said "I beg your pardon its pronounced Ho-Flay" so I can't mock too much!
