I was really hoping GM would have made a Cruze SS to replace the Cobalt SS, especially with the hatchback version. It's disappointing that it never happened.
There’s definitely some haters in the house but one thing you can’t take away from TDIB is that he actually connects with shops and enthusiasts who do the things we talk about at cars and coffee. Zzp is a very good company when it comes to their research and development and they actually get back to you when you email them . Please don’t hate on this

I wish I could have dropped the extra $1k for the Z04 kit... I recently took my 2012 Cruze 1.4L and swapped out the stock turbo for the V3 ZZP turbo, ZZP CAI, and ZZP coil pack. I went from 133WHP to ~212WHP, and there is SO MUCH more life to it. Turbo Tim was great to work with. Still a great daily driver, just a lot more fun now.
Mannnn I’ve loved Chevy since I came out the womb, but this isn’t worth the money cause it’s gonna blow as they blow stock.. buy a more reliable daily & all the money you would have dumped into your cruze can get you moving way faster
I did a roll against one of these in my Elantra N DCT. He had an aggressive exaust so I challenged him and Damn he was right there with me only falling back a car length from shifting (manual) then pulling right back even. Much Respect!✌️
You do realize golf Rs have a 2.0L with a EA888 Evo4 turbo. Cruzes are a 1.4L with a tiny ass 32mm stock turbo. The fact that we even touch 300whp is something else. Get your head out your ass and be realistic. Stop comparing two completely different motors and cars. Just because they are front wheel drive doesnt make them the same car.

Ok so I own a 2003 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 Ecotech, car was bought here in Ontario 🇨🇦 shipped to Miami brand new for the og owners wife to get groceries ff to 2015 car comes back here for the daughter to drive, and she doesn't like it, so I bought it with 76000 kms on it, today it has 215 and change and runs like a champ ( maintenance ) Krown rust proof ( best around ) every 2nd year, I would love to let ZZP have at this car and make it into the ultimate sleeper, I get alot of compliments on this car bc you just don't see them around anymore and if you do it's a pile, so seeing what ZZP can do with these lil motors is absolutely incredible, I love when you review any GM cars on the channel so thanks David for all you do, shout out to @ZZP! #ZZP #2.2life
Sell it and get something with the 2.4 ecotec to start with. Everything is stronger/flows better and is generally just 100 times better starting point.
i drove an ‘02 cavalier with the 2.2 OHV and 5MT in high school and it was the most fun anyone had in a car in my school. clutch dump burnouts and e brake drifts were that car’s bread and butter. got an ‘02 sunfire with the same drivetrain years later and was nearly as fun as it was when i was 16, im just smarter now and realize how hard i was being on the old cav! she loved through it all though
@@sirhamalot110 I had a 99' 2.2 ohv 5spd my dad got me in 2001... right when The Fast and The Furious came out. Needless to say I did silly things to that car. Fully body kit, wheels, coilovers, etc... but most people didn't know I had also gutted the interior, installed a single aluminum racing seat, added an intake, header, and exhaust. To top it off I finished with adding a full nitrous kit w/ remote bottle opener... oh the fun that was had. I'll never claim it was fast but it would surprise people considering how light it was. I beat the snot out of that car but it kept asking for more.

One thing about these cars is that there are two 1.4 engines. One direct injected (car in the video) and there's a port injected version that has a black valve cover. The majority seem to have the port injected version.
@@cormaro13 I had a 2012 and it made it to 180k miles with very little issue (1.4t) and was still pushing 38 mpg’s full bolt on and tuned. It’s hit or miss honestly, idk how the newer ones are.
I thought so. I chose a Subaru because I think it's a better car overall but I really did miss out on all the bits and bobs you get from a similarly priced GM product. Of course, now that I'm at 80k work my Subaru, I'm glad that I don't have a GM.
As a guy who likes seeing the overlooked cars being built and reviewed puts a huge smile on my face,especially the Cruze since the first and second gen of the car,despite how rental car feel it is,are quite lookers if tinkered with.

while the 1.4s are known as terrible engines, they hold power like you wouldn't belive. ZZP's drag sonic was making over 400WHP for years and last season made and held over 600 wheel.

To the people that think 275 wheel is slow, my 2500lb Ranger runs 9.80s in the quarter with 488hp. A sub 300 wheel civic is an easy low 12 second car and 11s if its awd.
it would be super nice if Chevy could take that little economy engine and put it in a small, light, handsome body and give us a Miata competitor in that same price/weight range. call it...i dunno, the Vega? the Monza? the Chevette?
Waiting for someone to do this with the XV40 Camry, same concept but with a 2AR-FE which has proven to be built strong. Only problem I see is the transmission isn't exactly beefy.
The XV40 V6 had 269hp from the factory, the last model crossed 300hp before they went hybrid only. Tuning is cool and all but V6 Camrys are great sleepers stock.
I had a 2017. Bought it new with my blown up WRX as a trade in 😂 I actually liked the Cruze in stock form. The steering wheel definitely needed to telescope though. Like curling up in a go cart, but it handled really well and honestly the power was enough for the mountains I loved in at the time 😊

Id rather drive a rwd manual NA more then just bolting a turbo on a fwd platform. I'm stroking my NA NB Miata motor, screaming to 10k rpm is where the real fun is.I Respect the build and work of anyone who has the passion.
To be honest part of me finds “riced out” sleepers pretty much just as funny as plain (actually) sleepers. Not necessarily saying the Red one was “riced” per say, but it was modified in away one might look at it and think that it was mainly cosmetic. But I’m the kind of person who would down badge a fancier version of a car, to hurt people feelings… think of removing the “T” from my Tuned 2.4T, making it look like a 170ps N/A car…

I have a 1999 Mustang GT 4.6 with a ebay turbo having 445hp from the stock 260hp in a New Edge is crazy fun and it cost me less thank 10k all in for a low milage example. You can have a ton of fun for under 10k if you buy something not normally modified because cheap stan alon ECU, turbos and 3D printer never existed back then. He's right above 4k RPM's in first and second you blow the tires off as it boost into oblivion up top.
I always felt the Cruz hatch had potential, from an appearance perspective. A hot hatch. Comp to a Focus ST. Which I have now, because Chevy didn't do this from the factory.

bro should’ve reviewed your car. i’ve always been vouching for this guy to review your cruze. Can’t believe he decided to go for ZZP. Unlike 1st gen cruzes, ZZP doesn’t have the same reputation for the 2nd gen platform. BNR started on the 2nd gen platform first and have always had the highest performing 2nd gen’s on the market

Why? No reason it can't be reliable at that power level or even higher with good maintenence many people have done it. People just assume shit when they don't know anything about it. 30 psi with a small turbo isn't the same as 30 psi with a large turbo. Psi is just a measure of restriction. People really need to stop thinking the number of psi directly relates to weather it's gonna stay together or not. It's about how much airflow you're pulling through the engine it's that simple. Psi is just a measure of restriction.

This is what GM should be doing with their small and midsize sedans.
Especially since Ford discontinued the Focus and Fiesta in the US. Chevy could own that gap in the domestic car market for sure.

Def should do a review on SuperCruzes Chevy Cruze. You’d be thoroughly impressed off what has been offered in the last couple years.
My 14 tdi is basically stock. 3’ turbo back straight pipe & stage 2 tune. 215hp 435tq. Almost nothing matters. & I get 4.8l/100km.
I would love to see the silverado/sierra 2.7L Turbo tuned by ZZP

Nope, 6 speed auto. We've made a good amount of power on this 6T transmission (similar in the 1st gen Sonic/Cruze) without issue.
Now I wanna see this in the Cruze hatch with the Manal, I'm thinking cobalt SS swap

Unlike 1st gen cruzes, ZZP doesn’t have the same reputation for the 2nd gen platform. BNR started on the 2nd gen platform first and have always had the highest performing 2nd gen’s on the market

Why? No reason it can't be reliable at that power level or even higher with good maintenence many people have done it. People just assume shit when they don't know anything about it. 30 psi with a small turbo isn't the same as 30 psi with a large turbo. Psi is just a measure of restriction. People really need to stop thinking the number of psi directly relates to weather it's gonna stay together or not. It's about how much airflow you're pulling through the engine it's that simple. Psi is just a measure of restriction.
