I know 3 of the four strokes, can I learn butterfly on my own or should I work with a coach just for butterfly? How long will it take to learn butterfly?

definitely a coach. butterfly is so technical and there is a ton of mistakes and bad habits you can firm while learning on your own, that from my personal experiences, are hard to fix.

A coach will be better if you have it available but it's not impossible to teach it yourself. Watch a lot of youtube clips and do a bunch of drills before you get in the actual stroke. If you feel comfortable in your drills breaking up the stroke in multiple exercises you put them all together and voila, you're swimming butterfly. I found that having fins on helps enormously with generating some power, once you get the feel for it take them off and you should be able to learn it.
Oh and in terms of time, just like any stroke, if you have a good feel of the water and your body, you can probably get the basics down in a few sessions. To master it? A lifetime I suppose lol.

Hi Steven! While butterfly is the most difficult stroke to master, several swimmers are self-taught! We recommend focusing on drills, technique, and short distances when starting out.

Can we get some water safety tips, especially for beginners? Even experienced swimmers need to be prepared (Ms. Alvarez, glad she's fine).

Can you make some shorter workouts for those of us just getting back in the water? Maybe 1000-2000 meters?
