  • While up in Auckland getting the long-term test bike serviced, I jumped at the chance to take out Triumph's seemingly forgotten scrambler, the 1200 XC, for a test ride for a few hours.

Yes, this is an awesome bike. I had a T120 that I sold and trade for the BMW R nine T scrambler that I found to be a better bike from my personal standards. I enjoyed the 1200cc cross plane engine of the T120, but when I tested the 1200cc XC scrambler it was really what I wanted. It’s a pity that it doesn’t have quick shifter or the cornering abs like the XE model. And as a matter of comfort would be nice if Triumph choose to change the chain drive on these bikes for a drive shaft transmission, like the GS has or the Moto Guzzi VT85. That would be a frank up grade for the bike👌🏻
The suspension of the XC is fantastic though !👍🏻

Fun video - thanks! Nice bike for sure. I just sold my 2020 XC and I'm picking up a Tiger 900 Rally Pro this week.

Cool! I’ve not ridden the 900 RP but I really rated the 1200 RP. Triumph really upped their game for the current generation Tigers. Enjoy!

Nice video mate. Check out Steve Kamrad on his 1200 XE to see what the Scrambler 1200s can do off-road with somebody that knows what he's doing on board.

Would be interesting when or if Triumph op dated
These models, would like models to have the same spec even if the XE was a higher ground clearance model better suited for harder off-road, somehow I feel this model look better that the XE as the XE looks like it’s on stilts 😂
Also the motor could be a bit more peppy on top, I would also like these models have old style clocks as the other Bonnevilles.

The clock is the one thing keeping me from buying it, it looks so strange on this otherwise beautifull bike

@@skinnex3236 I'm an XC owner that strongly prefers analog clocks but also really enjoys Triumph's TFT features. If the ONE thing keeping you from buying a Scrambler 1200 is the TFT display, the rest of the aesthetics and features probably don't align with what you're looking for in a motorcycle.

Front fender is like that on an XE.... what is with that? Not an XC?

It's the accessory front fender on this bike. I think both the XE and XC come with a standard fender out of the box and you can option them both with the high one. I like the look, though I wonder how good it'd be in the rain or mud with the tall one on.

Thank you for the nice video👌🏻
I tested the XC model and it was very agreeable to ride, but at the time I had another bike.
In the meantime Triumph ended the production of that XC version of the 1200 cc Scrambler and the X came to take its place. I tested the bike, and felt nothing.
So I went for the XE model and I’m glad I did it. The bike is everything that the XC model was, and plus. I love tall bikes. On the road everybody recognizes you’re there (very important for safety reasons).
I don’t do off-road riding except light gravel trails. I bought the bike mainly for the asphalt. The naked nature of the bike and the lack of wind protection is another safety feature at our service, because you feel very clear the speed and we adapt to ride it on a more civilized manner in order to take the fullest of the bike virtues. I don’t mind the wind blast, it’s part of riding a motorcycle, in my opinion. Sometimes, the buffeting and wind turbulence is higher on bikes with a windshield than bikes like this, where wind protection in none. For me this is a fun bike to ride and for a big bike it’s relatively light . It’s very nimble and easy to maneuver. Better than a lot of other adventure bikes. The 21” front wheel is a defense against potholes and bad tarmac. The suspension is firm but makes the bike steady on the bends and gives a strong feeling of safety when you ride it harder or faster. The engine is strong and smooth. Even with the stock pipes we can easily ear it’s rumbling nice tone and in general the bike is a statement to beauty in a retro style design . I do appreciate that too. There is a nice side bag that I will equip the bike with to avoid the c necessary backpack that I have to carry every time I go out on a longer ride and for the winter dry days I will invest on heated grips in order to add some more comfort to that riding occasion. I live on a called hot country and I haven’t the need for extra protection against the elements. The heat from the upper located exhaust doesn’t worry me as Triumph moved the catalytic converter to the end of the pipes. In the winter it’s an agreeable source of heat 😅

@Fernando90054 thanks for the owners perspective. I agree, I think they lost some of the magic making the new X with the dash unit from the Trident. I still hope to ride it though. The lower price does have some appeal.

@@OnThrottle Yes, I agree. Lower prices are always an excellent idea and in fact the X can satisfy a lot of riders . I tested the bike and I can say that everything is fine with it. But the X model is nothing like the XE or even the XC. For me, these bikes mean a world of difference.
But for instance, in my opinion, the one that is not experienced going out of the tarmac and desires to start doing some off-road trails, the X is more suited to start, than any of the other two bikes.
