    Hard to believe Joan was nearly 78 here....she looked fabulous ( and still does ). She is a great actress but I don't think she could have played the role of Cleopatra as well as Elizabeth Taylor.

    Like her and liked Liz Taylor and glad Liz did the role. Liz had a great sense of humor and gave a lot to the aids cause before it was popular. Heard she was a great mother. Elizabeth Taylor was so beautiful. Even when she was 12 playing National Velvet.

      Like carol channing looks like Marilyn Monroe . Joan looks good but NOBODY looked like Elizabeth Taylor. She was undoubtedly the most beautiful woman in the world. I don’t know who you are. But I would go get glasses immediately

      There has never been or ever will be a more beautiful woman than Elizabeth Taylor. Joan aged well . Comparing her to Elizabeth Taylor is like comparing Carol Burnett to Raquel Welch

  • @GlanceofGlory
    @GlanceofGlory 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @astraiiia It wouldn't even have mattered if you could prove a thing so subjective. Elizabeth was a force of nature, she was a renowned personality no matter what she did or what she looked like on her worst day she was still more famous and compelling in the worst periods of her career than Joan Collins ever was. People think it's about beauty, including Collins who took it on herself to criticize the looks of modern day starlets but it's presence that contributes to beauty most significantly.

    It was said back in the 1950s that Joan Collins was the poor man's Elizabeth Taylor. By the 1980s Elizabeth Taylor was the poor man's Joan Collins. Things do change. Joan is still here and has had a 70 year career and is still going strong. Elizabeth is gone.

    Joan Collins has this amazing ability to (try to) rewrite history. Especially as there is no one left alive to disprove it. (except me!) Joan Collins was NEVER going to play Cleopatra. The (real) story is as follows:
    In the late 50s, 20th Century Fox needed some quick, money making films. They decided on "Cleopatra" (Fox had produced the Theda Bara silent film of the same name decades earlier) but they could not find anyone to produce it.
    in 1959 - producer Walter Wanger came to Fox saying he wanted to make "Cleopatra" - Fox jumped on him. BUT, he had one actress and only one actress in mind for the lead role: Elizabeth Taylor.
    Fox tried to dissuade Wanger from the expensive Taylor by doing screen tests using Fox contracted actresses, including Joan Collins. Her screen test is horrifying. (you can watch Collins chew her way through the screen test for Cleopatra on TH-cam).
    20th Century Fox offered Taylor the then unheard of sum of $1M for the role - and the rest, as they say, is history.
    Joan had better stick to celebrating her role as Alexis in "Dynasty" - although it is amusing to consider that Aaron Spelling first wanted Elizabeth Taylor as Alexis.

      Elizabeth Taylor signed the contract publicly in 1959, but she still owed MGM one more film that needed to be finished before she could do Cleopatra and that film was BUtterfield 8, for which she got her first Oscar.

      @johnnaylor823, You better believe Joan was probably hoping Liz would have passed away just to get that part. I saw Joan and Linda Evans when they came to Boston to do Legends. Linda Evans was great after the show. She took photos with everybody and signed every autograph. Joan was nasty just like her character Alexis and would not take a photo with anyone.

      only Elizabeth has a unique violet eye and natural double set of thick eyelash, her beauty in the 50's n 60's generation is unmatched to all the eyes of the actresses (Blue, green, brown are common eyes of Americans ) that's why Elizabeth was very popular as the most beautiful woman in the world in the 50's n 60's generation. But her beauty faded when set gets fat even she fluctuate her weight she's not striking beautiful anymore because she's getting old, died old and ugly. her non rival in 50's, 60's became her rival now....
