  • The only person convicted of first-degree murder solely for a drunken-driving crash got the only sentence allowed under Colorado law on Thursday - life in prison with no possibility of parole.
Todd Grudznske, 48, spent the morning of last Sept. 30 hitting at least three bars and downing nine shots of hard liquor and four beers before getting behind the wheel of his full-size pickup and plowing into Angela Wimmer as she sat at a red light on Kipling Street at Colfax Avenue.
Wimmer, 25, suffered critical head injuries and died about two hours later at a hospital.

I think he reached a point where he had to face his demons and confront reality. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom in order to do that. The problem is it cost an innocent woman her life for him to get there. I think he realizes that and that's probably what bothers him the most. Seemed that way in his statement.

This is typical for cases when a person dies.
It would be the same with speeders. I have *never* seen a person be remorseful after getting a speeding ticket (they ought to be!). Ditto tailgaters. When they kill someone, however, their attitudes are likely to be different.

5 years?? I dont know that I think life is appropriate either even with 7 DUIs(although I do feel less bad knowing that), but 5 YEARS? that's literally nothing, I mean idk it's such a tough thing, if it was his first dui then maybe 5-8 years ish possibly, but if there was multiple duis or multiple deaths than I'm def not thinking 5 years is fair, although ita like Idk sentences are so different & that's what I find so unfair- like this girl killed SIX PEOPLE in a DUI just ONE MONTH after getting her license back for a DUI accident that luckily didnt kill anyone, and she got 30yrs..only 30 years for ending 6 lives immediately after getting license back, and this guy gets life for killing 1 person?? Idk and then like this other girl got like 20 something years for killing 1 person in like her first offense or whatever, si idk I just dont think things are fair the way they are so different with sentencing I do think it's important to take individual circumstances into account when sentencing & not have just a universal sentence, but they shouldnt be so wildly different either. So idk.

Colorado's legislature provides a statutory sentence for vehicular homicide involving DUI that ranges from 4 to 12 years in prison. This defendant doesn't have the traditional criminal intent required for first degree murder.

He said "I did".It's rare for the convict to own their culpability.

I just watched several videos of people being sentenced for killing anywhere from 1 to 5 people while driving drunk. The lowest sentence was 10 years. The longest 50 years. Most somewhere in between. This guy gets life without parole. This country's justice system is so bizarre.

You know it's his 7th dui, but it finally came to this. If that's not priviledge then I dont know what is, dude had plenty of chances just like an illegal, according to you.

He may sound sorry but it’s only because he has 6 previous duo’s and he knows the game is over this time. If he was sorry he wouldn’t have done it over and over. How many times did he do it and not get caught if he has six convictions?

*I bet MOST drunk murderers ARE sincerely sorry. They may not be able to express it as well as this one. And I'm sure what he's done to himself and his OWN family enters into how he feels. But HIS sorrow PALES compared to the sorrow of the victim's FAMILY.*
