This is not an excuse. What you have to remember is that RedFall was not made by Arcane, but by Arcane Austin, a newer studio owned by them and no where near as experienced. They even said they expected the game to be cancled, but microsoft pushed it through because they needed more exclusives. I unironically enjoyed RedFall just because of how jank it was and had fun killing off clueless vamps.
My new head-canon is that games like Redfall are a sabotage effort by the developers to try to stick it to the corpos. Makes them sting a little bit less.

Oh that camcorder comment. I'm old enough to remember using the old VHS camcorders, the heavy ones that you needed to use a stand or sit on your shoulder.
I'm not sure if it's a detailed issue, but in Call Of Duty or more specifically warzone 2, if you get hit by a incendiary round and jump in the water, you still take damage like water just doesn't put an end to it or else patched but that's just confusing.
I might be the only one but I think Vice City is still my favorite GTA game the feel the voice acting the story everything and the sound track was really good
I think you are absolutely right. Arcane made Redfall bad ON PURPOSE, just because they were FORCED to make it. If an artist is good at paintiing flowers, you cant FORCE him to paint a lion, and then expect it to be good, can you? Especially if he HATES painting lions. So that was Arcanes way of saying: Don't EVER force us to make a game we don't WANT to make, because this is what you'll get. Good on them!
I’ve not only used a camcorder but I used to have the OG Camera with the VHS tape in it to record and a battery the size of a 12V pack. It had the ability to look thru the optic to review the video. Like Stanger Things season 2 Bob style camcorder for all you youngins.
Okay come on now. Grayhill Incident is the most obvious parody. The guy at that " The aliens are getting in " screams about the aliens needing to " GET AWAY FROM THAT HOLE " - or something close to it. ... They're probing people and animals up the butt. It's very clearly a joke.
Take note developers. You don't need the best looking graphics of all time, just be consistent, look nice enough, and most importantly fun. Best game I've played this year, the original Resident Evil 4.
Thanks for making me feel old. I used to have a handheld camera that used the little tapes and came with a big vhs type tape holder. You watched them in vhs.
In terms of animations, the latest Assassin's Creed games along with both open-world Ghost Recon games have some of the worst animations in AAA games I've honestly ever witnessed. From the floaty, ice-skating-like movement in RPG AC games when you're locked onto an enemy... up to the reloads and buggy takedowns from Wildlands and Breakpoint. It's funny, as well, for Ghost Recon cuz the animations from The Division 1 and 2 honestly look way more real and believable than what you end up getting from what's supposed to be a more serious, grounded military shooter. Been playing through The Surge 2 recently, and it makes me wish the RPG AC games actually took weight into consideration for their combat. Oh, and I'm not even talking about how bad the facial animations have become across the years for a lot of modern Ubisoft games.
I've been playing a lot of Crime Boss. It's not the worst thing I've played but I can say that when it comes to details they really didn't put much effort into it. A lot of the guns have anachronistic attachments, and are covered in in skins that look like they were pulled straight out of a nerf advertisement. If you die during one characters special mission it says he died in 1996. All of the calendars I've seen in the game world say 1993(or maybe 92). With that being said, some of the characters dress like they're in the late 80s/early 90s, while others look more mid to late noughties than 90s. It's all over the place.
Be aware that a ton of houses have fake chimneys like that, especially with gas/electric fireplaces being more and more common Also, that archer animation wasn't "throwing her hand back" from how strong it is. She was reaching back for an arrow from the quiver.
I hate lack of detail, but I also have to ask myself why they thought there was high demand for a game where you play as Gollum, of all Lord of the Rings characters.
About Redfall... It was absolutely mind-boggling when it was revealed that the internal dev team actually begged the corporate higher-ups to cancel the game. The devs knew the game was broken, far from what can be called a finished product, but they had corporate pressure and immovable deadlines to deal with. So the devs preferred the game be cancelled outright, rather than forever be associated with a broken turd of a game. The higher ups didn't give two sh!ts and pushed the product out anyway.

The fact that Rockstar is a studio that has made games with some of the most insane level of details ever in gaming history but they are also here on this list of "games that didnt care about details". Recently they have fallen from grace. What they did with Red Dead Online, GTA Definitive edition... and then there's the case of GTA5. Their recent update of GTA online & GTA+ shows how greedy they have become. Not to mention how many times they have remastered GTA5 in past 10 years & sold it at full price. The remasters on console not even on par with the base game that came out on PC, many features are missing on console that was there on PC. Its a literal cashgrab. The success has gone to their head
Arrow girl in dnd is reaching back to grab a new arrow from the quiver thats why her hand goes back like I think. Although it does look weird that the string over the bow is so short. It should be extending towards the full top and bottom of the bow where it's recurved. The amount that it's being pulled back makes it look like a kid's toy.
What baffles me is everyone knows about the typo in Aliens Colonial Marines but Gearbox still didn't patch it. They really didn't care making that game.
Transcript from a Crime Boss: Rockay City development brainstorming call... D1: This will be fun, but some might find its game play a tad derivative. D2: Maybe we could provide options for different problem solving approaches. Some player will prefer to go in guns-blazing, but we could also offer a stealthier approach. Players could sneak around and eliminate threats by hitting the self-destruct butt... D1: Sounds intriguing, but I think you cut out there. D2: Nope.
I'm going to have to disagree a bit with Strangers of Paradise. If you keep talking to the NPCs through the game, you learn about how saving the crystals is actually making life harder for people rather than just being a good thing. Such as saving fixing the Earth Crystal actually added too many nutrients and such ended up killing the plants or how fire became a lot hotter than they were used to which made forging and cooking much harder because they weren't used to the heat.
I actually feel bad for the Studio that made Gollum. It's a german Team from Hamburg and in germany there aren't many studios anyway but now they have to shut down, while in the past they where actually making good games like Deponia.
I try to give a little benefit of the doubt to developers, because they're saddled with extemely high expectations from everyone, their bosses and gamers alike. Not saying that everything needs to be excused, but when corners are cut, I want to find out the reason on what went wrong.
Falcon your RedFall theory is right on point. Its what I was thinking back when the game released. As a developer why would you put your best work into some exploitative POS you don't even want to make?
I've not seen much of the Saints Row reboot, so when you showed the clip of the motorcycle running into the back of a truck and it made a bonk sound, i said "is that seriously it!?" out loud to myself
As bad as Aliens Colonial Marines could be, I had a blast playing through it on PC in co-op on Ultimate Badass difficulty with the TemplarGFX Overhaul mod installed. That mod actually makes the game playable and enjoyable ie what it should've been at launch.
Gollum was like someone accidentally deleted all the assets and scripting 2 weeks before it was scheduled to be released. Some of the environments looked pretty good, but anything that moved was just... wtf guys. They took YEARS to develop that game. Something happened. There is no way thats the best they could do and no way the final product took years to create. No way the devs said "yep. Thats what we were going for." The previews we got long before release looked so much better. I am convinced someone deleted all the progress or the computer it was on puked and the backups were unrecoverable or something. Its yet another example of another delay being better than releasing a half-assed game. When I managed a kitchen, I always had to assure the wait staff that customers would rather their meal take 5 more minutes than come out wrong. If you send out old fries or an overcooked burger... its gonna be sent back anyways and then there goes your tip. 😂 Gollum was the undercooked piece of chicken that got dropped on the floor and stepped on, and then got sent out anyways 🤣
It's not that they didn't care about the details, they didn't care about the game at all becouse those aren't games done passionately, those are rushed projects made in the shortest development time possible, with the lowest budget possible and with no respect for the costumers, the developers or the game and which only objective was for them to be cash grabs.
Sonic 06 A master class of getting hyped for something then finally getting a present for your Birthday and opening it to see. Finally playing it and. . . Well you know the rest.
Redfall suffered from mismanagement. They forced a studio who does singleplayer immersive sims and said here make a multiplayer live service game. Then when they were asked ok what do we put it in they said "We're not sure we need to run some focus groups." Most games in development hell suffer from higher ups making demands that don't make sense and rewriting everything up until the last minute. Like Anthem and them taking out and putting back in flight over and over. Some concepts you have to build around.
Redfall's atrocious water graphics - especially on the boat at at start - still give me nightmares. Sadly, I almost bought Crime Boss just for laughs, knowing it'd be bad, but thankfully, I came to my senses and saved some coin. Also, my hand's raised here as I remember the humble camcorder. (I was born right before the advent of Intellevision, digging Pitfall and BurgerTime, whilst my dad got hooked on Snafu, staying up late to play as Mom got mad.)
The making of Gollum videos are pretty hilarious. “We try to make some big level, and you know, like little level too.” Lol we use buzzword like small space, not small space.
Although yes the story, writing, and dialogue in stranger of paradise are brutal most of the time, I thoroughly disagree that the gameplay systems are half-assed. Similar to alot of team ninja games, they specifically make it so in depth gameplay features are less required for main story for casual players, while incredibly important for post-game for hardcore players. Things like job affinities, equipment and weapon stats that people rarely delve into during the main game are crucial to survive in ng+ or postgame. For example the Sage job if you reached 400% job affinity it passively allowed your potions to also restore Mp and Break and also allow your block to compteley negate all magic damage. Each job had their own playstyle, and since you can have high affinity in any job even if it's not the one you're using, you can make endless over the top and insane builds. It does bog you down with lots of gear, but you are generually supposed to turn on auto recylce so it instantly breaks it down bad stuff for you to give you upgrade materials
They ran out of time. Not only was the team split in half during development, but the game was mandated to release in 2006 for Sonic's Anniversary. This game is literally running on an older build, because the current build they had, was more buggy, and they didn't have time to patch it. So they had to use the older build. That's why 06's demo runs better, cause the demo was a piece cut off from the current build, that had to be ditched.
The saddest thing with GTA Trilogy is I wanted to see that vibe be remade and they didn't even try. It's not like it can be fixed, these games would never be the definitive versions because they feel so different to the real games. Rockstar should really quickly work on remaking each of the three properly one by one. It dosen't have to be crazy, after GTA 6 they'll have all 3 maps in HD.
I definitely agree on the arcane. One cause dishonored is hands down over the best games I've played in this last decade. That's now 11 years old blows my mind. That's how old it is already, and every place you visit. In the original, dishonor has so much detail has objects. Furniture reasons to stop and look just to admire it. And then of course, it helps that the esthetic, the graphics, and the art style they went for has aged very beautifully in the last 11 years like a fine wine like. The game and game play even though some people consider the fps aspects. A little outdated still feel smooth and good like it did when I played it in 2012 on computer and I played it on my phone on a cloud service on Xbox. And oh my goodness, it didn't matter if I got on my Xbox or my phone. The game was awesome and epic and beautiful. And I beat it recently like 3 times just to see different outcomes. To use different powers and even go a whole game without killing people. Which I got that achievement. dishnored is the standard of single player games should all adhere to if theyre gonna be short winded with replay ability.

I imagine it's cheaper than paying someone to remove the entire stone structure and rebuild that part of your home when you stop needing the fireplace. Really weird part is it looked like that one in the video was coming down into the middle of a garage.
That would’ve been a hilarious ending! Great content as usual y’all. Appreciate it for sure!
what is impressive about this list is that we actually got to see games from lesser known devs rather than all 10 being failings from aaa companies considering i was expecting this vid to be full of the aaa failures.
You need to expand your view because AAA games aren't only the dumpster fires. We hear about the AAA ones because they are the most powerful and talked about.
Here’s an idea for a top 10 list: Games that the Devs didn’t want to make but were forced to make because their parent company said so.
Hmmm, Babylon's Fall.
I know Platinum is independent, but either way... WHY??
this was a great watch as always, thank you for your hard work!
My pleasure!
As opposed to the work of the game developers here HEYOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm so glad I didn't get Gollum. Four hours after it's release says it all. A 2014 game using Gollum as a side character did far better than a 2023 game using Gollum as a main character!
Technological advances that modern gaming nowadays it is astounding that some of the games released today do not have features that were included in games 20 years ago mirrors with shadows.. a typical day night cycle.. basic character interaction moving mouths actual realistic facial details.....

They somehow made an unlikeable lotr character even less likeable! 😂
😂
12:49 you are not a bird... I will forever be convinced that you are a semi-sentient AI.
Just do ANYTHING to prove me wrong, Falcon.
My new head-canon is that games like Redfall are a sabotage effort by the developers to try to stick it to the corpos. Makes them sting a little bit less.
Your headcanon is unironically canon.
Release dates shouldn't be public until the game is actually ready.
Agreed
17:46 laughed way harder than i should have
"they have made a lot of improvements over the last year, and it's definitely in a better place than it was at release."
That's literally every game that comes out these days.
Hey falcon thanks for making me feel 60. I'm only in my mid 30's and grew up using our VHS camcorder and hi-8 camcorder to film our street hockey games, silly skits, and card games. (swings cane)
Yeah I don't get why they keep pretending like there old, these days you not even middle age until you hit 50. Maybe he had a hard life before having a successful TH-cam channel.
@@southcoastinventors6583 It's a running joke, not sure why people constantly seem to take it so seriously. Plus, I don't know how old you are, obviously, but once you get over 40, you get these jokes a lot more, because you absolutely do feel ancient at times, especially when confronted with some kind of "kids these days" situation.
@@Case_ Never felt that way at all people are free to do what they like, including teenagers. Kids these days are the same as any kid make a lot of mistakes as well as thinking that the content they consume is cutting edge even though most of the time its created by people that are between 28-60.
I'm sure that some incendiary materials can burn underwater. Don't know if they're used in real-life incendiary ammo though.
Water can actually make some chemical fires worse.
@@radagast7200 true but if you don't have the necessary hardware to deal with a chemical fire you'll probably try water if it makes it worse or not
I might be the only one but I think Vice City is still my favorite GTA game the feel the voice acting the story everything and the sound track was really good
I think you are absolutely right.
Annual IDGAF Game Awards
Thanks for making me feel old. I used to have a handheld camera that used the little tapes and came with a big vhs type tape holder. You watched them in vhs.
As always nice work and thank you for all you do
Very welcome
Be aware that a ton of houses have fake chimneys like that, especially with gas/electric fireplaces being more and more common
Also, that archer animation wasn't "throwing her hand back" from how strong it is. She was reaching back for an arrow from the quiver.
I’m old enough to have used a camcorder 📹 in the 90s 👴🏻
Video camera with external VHS recorder and a separate external battery.
"colour tv have been standard for 2 decades" lol that's a classic I forgot how old I am type of moment.
Falcon you son of a gun here we go again! My favorite

Using a drop down menu to initiate conversations brought me back to 1987 for a moment. Then I saw how obtuse it was and PRESTO, I was back in 2023.
Can we get a update on the GTA Trilogy? I’m wondering if it’s worth picking up now… 🧂

Calm down, buddy
Is this the kind of video you have to make when there is nothing else to talk about?
Everyday I watch Gameranx for my nightly dose of bright white screens. Thank you, Gameranx
5:23 the shockwave always hits first in an explosion, this is just good physics.
11:27 why does that look like a third person mod for a game lmao. like you're not supposed to see the full animation
#2 was weirdly in depth when it was pretty much just about a TV in an indie game.
Isn't Crime Boss basically just Payday? Seriously, the loading the van with bags of cash and making people lay down is exactly the same
Transcript from a Crime Boss: Rockay City development brainstorming call...
D2: Nope.
The AI of the KSEC guards in _Mirror's Edge: Catalyst._ They attack where you _used_ to be and slip off the edges of buildings.
His main complaint was how it was executed not just what the npcs were saying.
And besides, that "May the Crystals' blessing be with you" line is a reference to how too many NPCs said that same line throughout the original FF.
I actually feel bad for the Studio that made Gollum. It's a german Team from Hamburg and in germany there aren't many studios anyway but now they have to shut down, while in the past they where actually making good games like Deponia.
They are not shutting down, they will just focus on publishing in the future
@@Seismo2077 yeah but the development is shutting down
Stranger of Paradise is possibly the worst square-enix was ever involved in, that or Forspoken.
I try to give a little benefit of the doubt to developers, because they're saddled with extemely high expectations from everyone, their bosses and gamers alike. Not saying that everything needs to be excused, but when corners are cut, I want to find out the reason on what went wrong.
The Saint Row reboot crash had more effect going into an ad than what it looks like.
The middle Earth games need more love...
And hopefully a multiplayer edition as orcs soon lmao
Falcon your RedFall theory is right on point. Its what I was thinking back when the game released. As a developer why would you put your best work into some exploitative POS you don't even want to make?
I've not seen much of the Saints Row reboot, so when you showed the clip of the motorcycle running into the back of a truck and it made a bonk sound, i said "is that seriously it!?" out loud to myself
I think Gollum was inspired by Steve Buscemi’s likeness.
As bad as Aliens Colonial Marines could be, I had a blast playing through it on PC in co-op on Ultimate Badass difficulty with the TemplarGFX Overhaul mod installed. That mod actually makes the game playable and enjoyable ie what it should've been at launch.
Damn, this does exist? Someone trying to salvage this?
Is it actually worth it? I would definitely give it a shot.
You literally described every Ubisoft game. Especially them ignoring the unstable state of division 2
Thats what we were going for."
The previews we got long before release looked so much better.
Gollum was the undercooked piece of chicken that got dropped on the floor and stepped on, and then got sent out anyways 🤣
Man.. the GTA SA rain at launch was such a pain to watch
another detail in Gollum is that his irises are flat. the light reflects off the surface like a flat object and not a curved object.
It's must cost an absolute fortune for failure. I loved the 90s snes and mega drive days
That bow and arrow animation on dnd was hilarious! 😂
Hahahahaha Falcon dude... that... when you just went "#1 Aliens Colonial Marines thats it." I burst into such laughter!!
I thought Crime Boss was trying to be a "different" Payday style game...
During 2000s GTA San Andreas looked so realistic to me. Now it looks like PS1 pixelated.
I don't know what you're talking about. "Deadly Butt Punches" should be an entire standalone stealth video game!
