Still a useful video in 2023! Just been going a refurb on our PS3, new controller batteries, a 1TB SSD and an air blast dust clean, only took the case top off and the fan out for that.
If you have a model 3001A/B, this video is not fully what you need. The drive cables are different as is the fan assembly. I mistakenly ruined one of the drive cables and the motherboard attachment. I had to buy another PS3. This is still an amazing video worthy of watching for any disassembly. He’s really organized and delivered great info and insightful details & tips. I love the tape for screws tip!

Your videos for disassembly & assembly are the best ones available on YT. My PS3 Slim model is CECH-3001B, so just a few things were a little different, but basically the same. This help me take a ps3 apart for a first time ,but I can tell you that skinny black and white wire are not for Bluetooth thats the antenna for the Wi-Fi Bluetooth is on the bottom of the mother board underneath the metal case

I'm having trouble with the HDMI port no signal to the tv ive tried the long press on the power button and cleaning the HDMI port is there something else I could try before I change the HDMI port if I have to take it apart I just going to go ahead and change the port
I keep seeing videos saying "it just pops off...", mine has never been taken a part and I just found out that my top is putty glued shut.. I had to drill into my case and drill out the glued bit 🤔😔

This doesn’t work for me as I can’t take the disk tray out, its partly blocked by the fan case which I can’t remove as the disk tray is covering the screws & I can’t remove the disk tray until i take the fan cover off 1st
Hey, for some reason on my model I only see three screws at the front, but I can’t get the cover off. I’ve looked everywhere for info on disassembling this particular model but haven’t had any luck. Would you be able to help by any chance? Just wanna make sure I don’t break it while trying to remove it.
Late reply, but there's one more long silver screw on the underside hidden beneath a black rectangular sticker, you just have to peel it back and pop the cap off that's under there, that's gonna be the last screw holding the top on .
Question: at the end where you take out the fat screws of the shield (the black ones) i hqve taken three of them out and ive tried everything to take out the last one (even a drill) any suggestions on how to take it out?
The hardest screws should be the two metal pieces I took out at 6:13. These are put on tight so if you press down and turn counterclockwise slowly they should slowly loosen.
The best suggestion is to remove it nice and slow but Do NOT Strip the screws. Otherwise you are fked. (Not the best advice but that is all that can be said) :(
HELP!!! i cant unscrew the battery power screw, i tried with a lot of screw driver but cant remove it, can you pls tell me what kind of screw driver you use for unscrewing that? :((
Hi Chris. Our PS3 Slim fell of the table and now there is an error that it can't find the storage device. I removed the hard drive, blew off all the dust that was on it, put it back and it still has that error. Would you know what more I can do? Thanks
Will it work to take off the top of the ps3, make a square hole or something with shape, replace with plexy glass and add some led lights to it? if so.. How do I make the led lights turn on when i turn on the ps3?
@@Chrisshao i didn't have the 4th torx screw, however it's acting like there should be one or some other mysterious invisible missing screw lol. Yet I've taken out every screw, in every place, double checked through every place I've found directions for this disassembly, and everywhere shows taking the top off should be fairly easily done, however mine still isn't coming off. Watching further a few steps into yours, doesn't show me anything that it could be getting stuck on that i can tell. Any ideas are welcome cuz it's driving me crazy lol🤬🤦♀️🤣
My PS3 slim turns off after about 20 mins and I don't get a red light. I then find I have to unplug the plug from the mains socket, and plug it back in. And then I can restart my PS3. Anyone got any idea what this could be?
@@Chrisshao I'm not sure. It feels slightly warm but not very much. Also the fans are not going full strength or anything. The weird thing is - if it's plugged in and goes off, I can turn the plug socket off and on again and get no response and no red light. But if I pull the plug out o the socket and put it back in again, I can then start the PS3 again.
@@Chrisshao Yeah, I won't be needing those bits yet, I'm probably going to either buy a new disc drive or get my ps4 fixed somehow, I just popped out a tension piece, (it won't take discs or stop spinning them now ) so I'm going to work on that and try to at least have a DVD player.

The second set of screws on the outside require a JIS1 bit. Theyre common in any small screwdriver set.
I don't know if I have a different version of the slim but I only had three security bits instead of four and I couldn't get the top off

When assembling my 2501B the rivet cable to the dvd is under it and I can barely get it close to the plugin. Any ideas?
Also I ended up with an extra piece that works really weird

If can take fan cover off sure, but i think can wiggle disk tray out? But check screws yes if still mounted can’t wiggle out

Could work, need to get power from one of the metal places that has power running through the motheboard

The motherboard should have writing on it, and look for a place where can solder wire to a voltage labeled place. 🙃
Are the Blue Ray drives the same across all models?
likely yes. - but look for the model number corresponding to your PS3 Model Number

My ps 3 only had 3 security screws and I'm unable to open the top
First check if all screws removed, maybe also under the warranty void sticker
Then can pry the cover off like a door hinge

My custom building ps4 has the easiest way to disassemble and it's way easier then any device I have ever seen.
