I was using another guide and the antennas and power socket didn't need to be removed (fair enough) otherwise very comprehensive, especially like the heatsink disassembly which I wanted to do to get excess old thermal paste out of the cracks.
Warning to anyone opening up this model! I’m not sure if it’s just my console but separating the top plastic was super difficult for some reason. The bottom of the front plastic where you insert the disc didn’t want to come up from the rest, so pulling the top off cracked it

3001B model of the slim is the better build. It has a better disc drive and power supply unite plus it's laid out a little better inside and cables are routed better.
I've got the 3001A and there were so many stupid design flaws like the disc drive had a ribbon cable that attached below where the disc drive sat so I had to use 2 tweezers and a jig to lift it slightly and it took about 50 tries
Well shit.. got most of the dust bunnys out. Wanted to replace the thermal paste, but those mobo case screws are just too damn tight, or glued. Near stripped one.. gave up. They just won't budge. Damn..
Just out of curiosity which model slim is this? Reason i ask is I’ve seen some other tear down videos where the BR drive ribbon is underneath and tricky to get to

Not only does my Disc Drive have a extra cable on the bottom but my fan is also just one piece. It definitely doesn't come off the way yours does. Makes it hard to figure out which shell replacement to buy since I want to switch mine in to a white shell.

I accidently broke that node or something connector that's on the motherboard where the black wire plugs in to . And now the controllers have such delayed responses to the point it wont work at a far distance, like 2 or 3 feet; unless it is very close to the console. The controller works perfectly fine when plugged, but I need to able to fix this. Am I fucked or could I solder that tiny component back to the mother board?
At 4:06 when I tried to remove the eject/power button cable, the white plastic connecting piece it is attached to came of with it. It doesn't appear that the pins have been damaged. I can put the white connector back on the motherboard, but it is loose and could fall off easily. Was this glued on? I'm wondering how to correctly reattach it.
Hello, my PS3 Slim has a bizarre problem..... when i turn it on, it stays silence for more than 30 seconds (no fan, no hdd checking etc...) just the green light, and then after those seconds the system will boot normally. it also has audio glitches, i can't boot to Safe Mode and cant play PS2 Classics (blackscreen), what is the issue ?
@@kmieciu4ever Maybe you are right, after some search i noticed this issue causes that symptoms to other people. i usually play in a old CRT TV and i recently tried to connect a HDMI TV and the image dosen't appear, so yeah it's probrably the HDMI IC chip
Use a can of duster to insure no damage of moister will come to the electrical compartment inside of the ps3. I did it to my ps3 I got from a pawn shop. She was a dirty girl.

I have a question I have a 3001a model PS3 slim that is broken. Powers on shuts off immediately. I swapped power supply for known good one and it still turns on and shuts off. I also have another PS3 2000 model I believe, can I use the AV socket from that to test it on my 3000 model for further testing? I don’t wanna open the motherboard just yet until I get some thermal paste. Thanks

what screwdriver did you use to remove the motherboard backplate ? i mean the screws around the heatsink plate not the 4 in the center.

If you are not carefull there will probably go something wrong but if you are carefull nothing should actually happen but always take your time
