For those that noticed, in this video, I neglected to mention that you need to remove the grounding strap on a 4 wire installation. I went back and did mine. However, poor editing on my part left that important detail out.

What if u have a grounding strap and a small square grounding plate also? Should u evolve the grounding plate just leaving the strap on a 3 wire install?

I would consider adding annotations on the strap removal on the 4 wire cord connections, secondly on the 3 wire install you should of used a tomic connector or for ease of installation a 3/4" romex connector to protect the wire from getting cut over time from the metal, lastly on the 4 wire install the tomic connector was installed, but the rubber insulation from what it looked like wasn't pushed up far enough for the tomic connector to squeeze and the conductors are exposed which can result over time with cutting the wire. The tomic connectors are junk in my opinion to hard to use, as said before save yourselves headaches and get a 3/4" romex connector then push the cord up so that the connector is surrounding the insulation, tighten screws on romex connector, then connect the wire to the terminals. I've easily installed over 400 cords in my 21 years as an electrician. Good video overall.

When you use a four wire setup you need to remove the bond on the stove between the neutral and the ground.. your installationon the four prong was not correct.. it's awesome that there are these how-to videos.

I have both a propane and electric stove in one :P. It annoys the hell out of me but when I had to buy a new gas stove it was near to impossible to find one with just a pilot light vs. electric ignition. *sigh* Very useful video as I have no idea what my next house will have. :D - Heidi

Excellent short and simple video. Should be a simple thing but my cord is unmarked and I didn't want to connect the wrong wire to red that needed to be connected to black. Simple answer - they're both hot so it doesn't matter. How come none of the other articles or videos I looked up before this one didn't mention that? Thanks.

Also important for a range installation are the brackets that hold the range to the wall so it can't tip forward. If you sell the house, the inspector will look.

If you use the 4 prong plug you can't have any jumpers between neutral and ground.

Do not confuse a natural with a ground....they are not the same.. When changing from a 220v-240v to a 110v-120v run a new 20amp circuit for the Igniters

There needs to be a cord strain relief /protector in place where the range cord enters the stove ,, otherwise the sharp edge of the metal will cut into your range cord over time creating a dangerous high current short circuit ,, I believe its required by code for this very reason..

if youre using a 4 prong cord you were suppose to remove the grounding strap. that is only there for the 3 prong cords

Home Depot who shall not remain nameless showed up disconnected old electric hard wired electric oven, but wouldn’t hook up the new one. Took the old electric oven. Thus, I didn’t get to see how the old electric oven was hooked up.
The hardwire only had two black wires and a green wire. No white neutral through the conduit that would have gone to the electric stove. There is a neutral in the junction box capped with three wires tucked in - seemingly untouched. Is the green wire the neutral? When I turned off the breaker the wires that once fed the stove were all off, but when I went to the junction box the white neutral wire was hot. I don’t understand. I only have three wires total, a green and two blacks.

Dylan Strawn of you need to run a new wire from your electrical box for a stove, my advice would be to hire an electrician. What you saw on this video is about the extent of my knowledge of 240 lines. Not something i mess with often, so i cannot offer any advice on your project.

You can run an 8-3 nm with a ground in it for your stove, however jurisdictions can be different on if something has to be hard piped instead if using romex, Chicago is an example of one place that requires hard piping. Best to check with local codes or hire a qualified local electrical contractor to do the install. 4 wire conductors are required on all new stove installs per the NEC.

You should delete this video. People don't read pinned comments and will just blindly follow your instructions and could damage their equipment or worse get hurt. You gave no disclaimer that you were not an electrician.
