This video came in SO clutch!! We were replacing an old stove from the 90s that had a 3-prong. Our new stove had a 4 prong. Headed to Lowe’s and got a 3 prong for the new own. Followed this to a T!
I have a 3 prong cord but the end where you hook it up to the oven itself are like 2 prong forks instead of circles, is there a difference in how to hook them up
They still connect to the terminal block the same way. Just make sure when you tighten down the nuts, you do so on the flat part of the forks. Tighten all the way so the forks can’t twist. Thanks for watching!
I have a 3 prong outlet and the stove/range has a 4 prong plug. I am changing the stove to a 3 prong plug... On the stove/range, do I install a ground strap from the frame/chassis of the stove to the neutral on the terminal block of the stove? Does the neutral also provide "ground" to the stove as where it appears the 4 prong outlet provided a separate ground wire?
Yes a 3 prong cable plug should have that bridge in place on the range that bonds the Neutral and Ground together. On an appliance that has a 4 prong cable in place, that bridge would have been removed (not needed) so yes you need to install a ground strap when retrofitting to a 3 prong cable. STAY SAFE!
Yes you can use a small piece of wire between the neutral and the ground. Make sure it is adequately stripped (plenty of bare wire at either end) and the wire is a snug, neat fit under the nuts.
Nothing that I need, but how about something that I just did; over the range microwave install, but reverse the fan blower to outside exhaust.@@TheAppliancePlug
The stove had 3 my outlet took 4 the man said I didn't want to change my outlet I wanted to change my cord on the stove the cord he handed me has a green wire he said was the ground wire what do I connect it to
It must be an old appliance not to have a ground lug. Either way you would need to use a 3 prong cable, the Neutral wire being connected to the Neutral lug.
So does this mean that all newer stove models can interchange between a 3 prong to 4 prong/4 prong to 3 prong? Why would you need a 3 versus 4 or vice versa? What’s the difference/benefits of the two?
Stoves typically don't come with the power cord already installed when purchased brand new. You install the cord based on the outlet in your home and there's a slight difference between installing a 3 prong cord versus a 4 prong cord. We have another video showing how to install a 4 prong cord. Check it out! Thanks for watching!
Great job. You answered my question which was: which is the red and which is the black and do they have to be connected in a specific way (when NOT labeled on the appliance cord. You took the time to explain, gave senarios and emphasized certain aspects. Thank-you. Much appreciated.
Thank you posting this video it was the exact range I had with the same 3 prong configuration and hook up terminal. Great Job thank you so much for helping me on this Rainy Day today 7/12/21
Awesome! I got a new range today and thanks to this I even know why they didn't have a cord already on it.. And your tutorial is so straightforward and clearly shown that I did it myself easily. Thanks!!!
Sister just bought a used stove from a remodel job. After hooking up the electrical outlet, plugged in the stove ( which seemed to work) only to find the display did not come on. but it did flicker once, So I checked the plug not only was the left side completely burnt and corroded, but all three wires were not even screwed in but a couple turns, not tight at all. Thanks for telling the audience how important to get these wires tight. I will be getting a new plug tomorrow.
You’re welcome update: got the new plug-in and because of the short in the old plug it fried the control panel so I’ve got a new control panel ordered. eBay is really good with this if you need one.

My apologies I'm Australian what doe's "clutch" mean? Sense of timing or something?

Does this mean red and black wires are interchangeable as long as the center prong is connected correctly?
Yes, that is correct.
Thanks for asking that question, bro! That’s all I needed.
2 hot wires 1 neutral.
I came here for this ANSWER!!!
Thanks bro, u helped me install my stove and dishwasher today.
Wow! I'm watching this a second time before I run to Lowes to get the cord. You are a wonderful communicator and teacher!
Glad to help! I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Does the cord come with the nuts that fasten it down?
Awesome vid so far...this is my morning project today.
Late response. Sorry. I hope everything went smoothly for you!
No ground wire?
My dryer had an internal ground wire.
This is a great instructional video. Super
Glad you liked it! Thanks so much

Nice job, my range Power wire just smoked. They left the screws loose on the power plugged, got to buy a power plug, and I got the cable.

What tool do you use to remove the nut? the sockets I have are not long enough to get past the screw like you did here. Thanks!!
I used a Milwaukee multi-tip screwdriver. It's my favorite tool.

Sweet dude, appreciate this. My landlord knocked a few bucks off my rent if i could do this myself, and i did, so he did. Much appreciated
Wow! That is awesome to hear! Glad I was able to save you money on your rent!
I don’t have a ground strap.can I just use a piece of cooper wire
Well can you just ground the neutral with a wire
Yes you can use a small piece of wire between the neutral and the ground. Make sure it is adequately stripped (plenty of bare wire at either end) and the wire is a snug, neat fit under the nuts.
Thank you so much!!! This video was sooooo helpful!!🙌🏽 Instant follow!

What is that bridge cord called? need one for my ground
Are you installing a 3-prong cord and the stove you have is missing the bridge that goes to the frame?

Watched your video then had my cord swapped over in 10 Mins. I appreciate the thorough video!
Why don’t they make the middle/neutral/ground line shorter?
On a 3 prong cable the middle (Neutral) wire is often ribbed to make identifying it much easier.
Great video ,Thank you so much!!

The million dollar question is, the 3rd wire on the wall outlet, is it connected to the ground or the neutral bus bar on the panel?
What if it's connected correctly but it's still not getting as hot as it's supposed to? 🤔
The element in the oven might be on the way out.

You must have been in the military. Civilians don’t say ‘secured’ they say fasten.
latinos mostly, would say secured..seguro
In the aircraft industry we say secured not fastened.
Thankyou
