"You probably dont even hear it when it happens"
Tony 100% died
The creator also confirmed he died.
not 100%. Chase says he doesn't. The point is the series didn't start at the beginning of Tony's life, in the same way, the series doesn't end that way. The point is Tony will have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
@@orangewarm1
That's a theory, just the same as Tony getting whacked is. There is no definitive answer other than what the audience chooses to believe..
@@orangewarm1nope…he dead
David chase said in an interview Tony died @@orangewarm1
A ending still talked about 17 years later.
Imo opinion the worst ending in show history. It was smart cause ppl still talk about it but dumb
Because it sucks.
The series overall was so good, and then the end just falls flat like a wet turd. David Chase couldn't decide how to end it, so he took the coward's way out and just cut to black with no ending, intentionally frustrating the audience because he didn't have the ability to write an ending that could satisfy the massive audience. (The way that Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul or The Shield or The Americans or ST DS9 or multiple seasons of Fargo all ended with a satifying series conclusion.)
Chase punked out, and called it "artistic license".
@@drewwesely8853 If you seriously believe this was a "cowards way out" of an ending a TV show then you're delusional. The cowards way out would've been to have them sitting at the table, the scene slowly fades to black over the music and roll credits. David Chase is clearly trying to imply something with this ending, something that for years fans of the show have tried to reject out of pure denial.
For the entire 2nd half of the Season 6 they have established more than once that when you're shot in the head you hear and see nothing, it's instantaneous death. Bobby asks Tony "You probably don't even hear it when it happens right?" during the "Sopranos Home Movies" episode and Silvio basically experiences it when Gerry Torciano is executed right beside him while they're at dinner. Silvio says to Tony that he "didn't even hear the shot as it was happening."
The last scene is very clearly a callback to this concept for anyone who has actually been paying attention. I don't think there is a way to dispute it.
What is up to opinion though is who shot Tony in the final scene, another thing Chase very clearly shows is Tony's paranoia in the final scene. He looks to a couple different people in the restaurant, unsure if they may be here to kill him. The shifty looking Italian man in the Members Only jacket and the 2 black men that Tony may worry are another one of the mobs "unidentified black males".
Personally I think personally the correct answer is that The man in the Members Only Jacket is there to kill Tony, him walking into the bathroom before Tony dies is a reference to The Godfather when Micheal Corleone goes to the bathroom to retrieve the gun before committing a double murder. The Members Only jacket is a reference back to Eugene from the first episode of season 6 titled "Members Only" in that episode Vito points out Eugene's jacket, no reason to do that unless it's foreshadowing, especially considering the jacket brand is literally the name of the episode.
I believe the man wearing the jacket in the finale is wearing the exact one that Eugene wore, probably a family member of Eugene who discovered the reason behind his suicide through Eugene's wife and decided to take revenge for his relatives needless death.
That answer may not be 100% confirmed but what is confirmed is that Chase didn't on a whim decide to chicken out of giving the show an ending, it ended exactly how he wanted it to. Chase had to fight with HBO executives who didn't want the show to end this way.
Anyone who believes that Chase was" too lazy" to give the show a "proper ending" (whatever that means) are the truly lazy ones. People being spoonfed the best series of television ever made and not bothering to put any actual thought into what you are watching. And then when the show actually forces you to put any thought into it, all of a sudden the creators are lazy? Unbelievable. 😂
@@drewwesely8853LMAO this is so wrong on so many levels
The answer right there. The fact that you think its just a “black” ending with no meaning is hilarious
What show did you think that you were watching?
When people watched the last episode back in 2007 everyone thought there tv went out.
Same here….😂😂😂😂
Same. Called my aunt WTF happened?!?! I don't know!!!!
@@LoneWolf_Cub_Ogami_Itto LOL I remember that.
Apparently Comcast was inundated with calls that night because people thought it went out.
There is a theory that the cat was actually a reincarnated Adrianna always staring at Christopher.
BJ and Asia's face when it cut to black 😂😂😂😂
That was everyone at the end
I started watching these guys watch the sapranos 1 year ago. As someone who’s grandfather got here 1909 from Italy. Definitely a very special viewing experience these last 1 year
They did not disappoint. Everyone and anybody that watched this show was just like this. 😂
all of us lol
They're luckier than everyone who first watched it and cursed the cable company.
It was blast going on this journey with you guys 🙏
Nice pun
There is a scene where Tony is talking with Bobby in the boat, and Bobby says that if someone gets shot, they don't even notice their death, everything just goes dark. Supposedly, this is the key to the final episode.
They repeated it in the last scene of the prior episode. The show almost never does monologue flashbacks, so it is very signifigant.
Says who? Not Chase.
Back when this aired, Chase said “everythings right there on the screen. It’s all clear what happened.”
Tony got shot and the lights went out. Game over.........series over. Great ending! I don't know why most people didn't get that. Or you can take it any other way you like but the last frame is the last moment of Tony's life because the guy from the bathroom blew his brains out.
Now you have to watch The Many Saints of Newark which is a prequel movie of The Sopranos! James Gandolfini's son plays Tony Soprano in this movie!
This is exactly what happened when it first aired. We were all in a daze. I remember waking up later in the night to check if the cable was still working.
lol
"You dont even hear it when it happens" fade to black...
With all the Godfather references in the series, Tony always said his favorite part is when Michael gets the gun from toilet and comes back to the table to kill.
In the final scene here, you see the same thing happen with the guy in the members only jacket leave the table and walk into the bathroom, suggesting that he'll come out with a gun and take care of Tony.
Thats just one of 100 different thoughts about the ending. Almost a choose your own adventure ending. Great way to end one of the best shows ever to be made.
What? Tony’s favorite scene in the Godfather was when Vito went to Don Ciccio’s villa
And hed be coming out at Tony's 3 O'clock. Also had meadow parked in time shed have been sitting at tonys 3 O'clock which would blocked the shooters line of fire to tony.
You know who loved reaction videos? Joey Peeps

Was so awesome watching the Series again with Asia and BJ. This was a masterpiece.
He died. Everytime the bell rang when someone entered it showed Tony looking up and then his POV. This was shown when AJ/Carm walked in. When meadow runs in, the bell rings, Tony looks up, and it’s black bc Tony got popped by the guy coming out of the bathroom (3 o’clock)
Oh shit,, I came here to post this about the POV every time the bell rings and that he is Def dead but in all the times I watched this and talked about it , I never put it together that if the bathroom guy shot him which is prob the most likely person that he would have came from Tony's 3 o'clock , like the omen from Chrissys "Dream"
This whole thing has been the world through Tony's eyes. If Tony suddenly died (maybe shot in the back of the head by members only guy) and didn't know what happened next...
neither do "we"...
This ending was sheer brilliance!
100% it’s one of the best endings ever written, pure genius
It was not through Tony’s eyes.. it was through multiple characters eyes.. Vito. Christopher. Carmela. A.J.. best show ever with the worst ending.
@@nicolaidalsklev446 the last scene was 100% through Tony's eyes, though. That's why it's obvious he got shot.
@@dannygibson2597 Sure.. but the show was not through Tony’s eyes like many people claim to cope for the terrible ending of the best show ever.
Yep... That's exactly how the rest of us reacted WTF 😂
I was PISSED 😂
@@joshuacoldwaterThank goodness Breaking Bad didn't have a similar "you decide what happened" ending!
Tony being proud of the Cat catching a mouse is one of the small scenes I miss about this show.
I was so nervous for this day lol. You guys had the exact same reaction as everyone at the time. Upon rewatching this series many times you do have an appreciation for this. “You don’t even hear it when it happens” RIP Tony. I hope you guys loved the series and thank you so much for watching along with you
There are a bunch of hints throughout the season that imply Tony died. My favorite is that the guy comes out of the bathroom to the right of Tony, or "3 o'clock" as they say in the military.
3 o'clock is the message Christopher gives to Tony and Paulie from hell, once Chrissy gets out of his coma. And there's lots of talk about the military in this episode.
The fact that the 3 o'clock message was for Tony AND Paulie, implies Paulie is one who set Tony up, probably with New York.
This episode also has odd moments where it lingers on Paulie as he looks regretful after talking to Tony, like at 17:02
Don’t forget the beginning of this episode they show an up close shot of Tony sleeping and it looks like he’s dead in a casket, and u hear organs playing in the background the ones u hear at funerals
That’s the dumbest theory I’ve heard yet
@@dabbadoo2226nah it’s an interesting one that I’ve heard plenty of times, this guy just sucks at explaining it lol. Google sopranos rule of three
@@dabbadoo2226no.. 3 o'clock shows up over and over in the series. And I think Pauly had tony clipped. He intentionally sent the zips to the wrong address. When n.y was talking about the takedown.. they specifically said not to touch Pauly. And since sil and bobby were now gone.. Pauly takes the throne as soon as Tony dies.
Who gave the order? Without an answer to that, your theory blows up in your face
19:54 Best one line in Sopranos
Yeah we got hints before, when Silvio saw a guy got shot in front of him, and didn’t even hear a gunshot; when Bobby told Tony “you probably won’t even hear it”
The last episode was told from Tony's perspective. You don't realize you're dead if you don't see it coming. It was lights out for Tony.
People thought that there was a glitch in their TV . I did .
You get to decide .
I love the “do you want to rewind this again ?
Feel like I'm the only one on the planet to think "ooh, cool way to end" back then lol
Thanks for letting me re-see this with you guys. Couldn't have enjoyed it more!
So a few things regarding the ending of the series.
David Chase actually had wanted to end the show after season 4 feeling he’d lost creativity but writers Terry Winter & Matthew Weiner convinced him he needed to still finish a lot of the character arcs. They’ve said Chase decided on the black screen ending around that time, so it was planned far in advance but he never told anyone. It wasn’t in the script for the final episode and was done in editing afterwards so even the actors didn’t know. The final scene of the show was filmed at Holsten’s in Bloomfield, New Jersey and the booth they sat at with the jukebox is still there with a sign that reads “reserved for the Soprano family”, yet fans can come and sit and dine. Chase had eluded to many different scenarios since the shows ending as to Tony’s fate but never settled on anything. He truly wanted to leave it up to the viewer to decide how they think it goes. There was quite a bit of foreshadowing and make of it what you will moments throughout the show and in the final season including;
In Season 6 Bobby and Tony are sitting in the boat at the cottage and Bobby tells Tony regarding getting shot “you probably never hear it when it happens”. Also not much later when Jerry Torciano gets murdered at dinner with Silvio, the gun shot is heard after blood splatters on Silvio, and he tells the guys later he didn’t hear it until after he realized it happened.
Also after Tony and Bobby’s fist fight when Tony is sitting alone on the dock there’s a bell on the boat that keeps ringing as it hits the dock and Tony keeps looking over at it after it rings. It’s almost identical to the doorbell that rings in the diner in the final scene every time someone new opens the door and Tony looks up, which happens to be the final sequence of the scene.
Most tellingly I think (and least well known) when the camera zooms in on the jukebox as Tony is looking for songs to play take a look at the song by Journey that would have played right after “Don’t Stop Believing”………
Any way you want it ;)
I ate an ice cream sundae sitting in the spot Tony got iced.
I had a milkshake where Members Only guy sat.
“You need the cats for rats” my favorite quote this man has said while watching this show. The meaning behind that 😂😂 them cats will let you know who ain’t supposed to be in the house literally
facts that's why it scared paulie so much
My personal opinion. The cat coming to Paulie at the end, because it was Paulie who gave Tony up. Probably was the one who set up Tony at the end to save his own ass because he was too afraid of dying in a war started by Tony
Yeah…that was 💯 Barz! 😂
The only thing better than watching the entire run of the Sopranos is rewatching the entire run of the Sopranos! I've lost count how many times ive been through it!
Your reaction to the black screen took me back to that Sunday night in 2007 when myself and all of America was like WTF 😮😡🤬 David Chase left it to the audience to figure it out....but yes, Tony was taken out by that guy in the Members Only jacket who walked into the bathroom.
Three o' clock
I was a kid when this came out but I vividly remember my dad frantically hitting the cable box with his hand
Giving it a Brogain adjustment like Pauli
He died
You don’t know that. You can guess all you like or write whatever paragraph of nonsense you feel makes you happy but you don’t know. The end.
@@TheRedPeril there is a good chance Tony was killed in the restaurant. Bobby if says when it happens you wont even know it, or something of that nature.
Actually the shows creator David Chase says that Tony should "get it" in a dive restaurant diner like that.....I had a scene in which Tony comes back from a meeting in New York in his car. At the beginning of every show, he came from New York into New Jersey, and the last scene could be him coming from New Jersey back into New York for a meeting at which he was going to be killed. Yeah. But I think I had this notion-I was driving on Ocean Park Boulevard near the airport and I saw a little restaurant. It was kind of like a shack that served breakfast. And for some reason I thought, “Tony should get it in a place like that.” Why? I don’t know. That was, like, two years before"
@@TheRedPeril it's called film making and foreshadowing. We see Tony's POV multiple times in that scene. His final POV shot cuts to black for a reason.
Notice the guy wearing the members only jacket? My theory is he was Eugenes brother and he shot Tony, just like in the godfather coming out from the bathroom.
Dude. It was referenced that gene and tony knew each other forever. Itd be extremely unlikely that gene had a brother that tony never met or knew existed and for that to be true hed had to have never met him cause he looked right at him and didnt know him.
DING! Ding! Ding! That’s a bingo! Hahaha. Nailed it. It’s not a coincidence that Chase directed that episode and the final episode. He made sure to connect the two. He said after the series aired, “Everything is right there on the screen if you look at it. It’s all there.”
@@mikimiyazakiThis was the actors only role and he just so happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to Eugene while wearing the same jacket
The episode is called Members Only. And the guy is listed in the credits as Members only.
I don't remember who's Eugene?
That man with the penguin walk saying "Oh 💩" always get me. 😂
One of the best endings in TV history.
I wholeheartedly agree. :)
I hated it at 1st but over time and with rewatches of the series I love it.
Hear hear
😂
''At the end, you probably don't hear anything, everything just goes black''
Just like Bobby said, it just goes black. It was us that were killed, and then it went black and we don't see the Sopranos life anymore.
He actually never said «it all goes black» watch it again
He said you probably don’t even hear it when it happens… nothing was said about going black
Thank you for taking me along with you two on this journey with the sopranos
Pauli definitely betrayed Tony to NY. Paulie always felt underappreciated by Tony so when in this episode Tony offers him the promotion and he looks pained when he leaves the bing, that's because he's already talking to NY. He's thinking why did you finally appreciate me when it's too late.
We know Paulie was untrustworthy, he previously gave Johnny sack info because he thought that would allow him to join NY. Tony nearly whacked him on the boat because he didn't fully trust him and Paulie sensed it.
Paulie would have been the most likely to take over the family too with Silvio and Bobby out, so he had a big reason to sell Tony out.
Also Tony was probably going to prison if he didn't get killed, Carlo had turned informant and he had so much on him. He was screwed either way.
Yea my parents thought their tv went out haha!
27:30 - So, I watched this on TV live. Girlllll, we thought our cable went out. Then everyone started calling each-other. The writer didn’t confirm it meant he was dead, for years. I was pissed. “Did they cut something out?” Nope? 😂
Loved going thru this series with you guys ,,, great job !
BJ: they not gonna do us like that
David Chase: I’m the motherfuckin one who calls the motherfuckin shots
The ending was art, just like the whole show
Tony is murdered at the table as the music cuts.
Love this ending. People would be mad if you saw him get shot and mad if you didn’t. He didn’t show it but he got killed. They have a ton of videos that break it down. “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens”- you know that even if he didn’t get killed ( which he did) his gang is all broken up and the indictments are coming. It’s just who did it? Little Carmine? Butch? Did Paulie flip? There are also some great videos explaining how Little Carmine may have been playing both sides to try and sabotage both Tony and Phil’s crew so he can be boss. Although he says he didn’t want it, he screwed up that meeting with Tony and Phil by bringing up his dead brother. I think little Carmine played dumb and was being a snake the whole time.
I personally think there is a good chance it is pay back for "Slava", the Russian Paulie & Chrissy try to eliminate
I don't think so because there was actually an episode they never did giving closure to that. Where Chase had written that at some point they returned to the Russians place and he was there but had brain damage and couldn't remember what happened to him. So the fact that episode was pulled makes me believe that the Russian had no bearing in the last episode in terms of Tony's death@@anthonyzarate9807
Actually it was presumed to be revenge from Gene who Tony wouldn’t let leave after he and his wife came into a lot of money. The guy who hung himself. Remember when he killed a guy in the diner. Also, he was wearing a members only jacket. Chase set that up at the 1st ep of this season. I believe he directed the 1st ep of this season and the last ep.
@@rayzrsharp Revenge from who tho if Gene is dead?
@@demonized3299 Genes wife who hated Tony. They were rich and Tony wouldn’t let Gene out. She was crying about it. Remember she said something about hoping he gets whacked? Also, connect the members only jackets. Also, it’s no coincidence that Chase Directed that episode and this one. Took years for this to be clear to me but after watching it - it’s extremely clear. Chase even said “everything is right there on the screen.”
I definitely thought my cable went out back in 2007! I did lots of swearing about it afterwards!! Thanks for your reactions, I enjoyed you doing this iconic show!
All I'm going to say is remember what Bobby said to Tony... “You probably don’t ever hear it when it happens, right?”
Awesome Work Guys, Thanks!!!❤ Greetings from Helsinki, Finland
The scene cuts back and forth from Tony's perspective and the door...back and forth....when it flips back to Tony for the last time (from his eyes), the bell tolls and it's black....he's dead and it was likely the guy coming back from the bathroom "at 3 o'clock"....Tony was just telling Carm about the troubles and that made him now a liability...and the Bobby line earlier when he says you don't even see it coming was foreshadowing...and remember when Tony was near death (coma) and he heard Meadows voice calling him back - unfortunately even Meadow was too late this time...on a re-watch, the ending was well crafted like the rest of the show (even if in the moment we all lost our minds)
Tony was assasinated by the man in the members only jacket who came out the bathroom. He was killed in front of his family !!
Look up an analysis of the Superbowl Commercial. It makes a reasonable argument that only Meadow survived, because she was late. That was never a conclusion I came to but the argument sure gets you thinking.
YUP that was more or less everyones reaction to the ending. I got up and angrily smacked the cable box and TV and being pissed off along with my brother trying to see if the signal went out hahahaha. Golden ! SOPRANOS is hands down the nest series to date! Love you both .. Shout ut from Mexico!!!!
They say you don't even hear the gunshot when it happens... tony got shot in the head in front of his family. David Chase confirmed it.
All 3 of them were shot.
Tony’s hell is not being able to see the one person in his life he loved more than anything, Meadow.
@@giodagrate5369 Nah.
David Chase confirmed nothing. He just said he always planned to kill Tony while driving into NYC.

That booth actually just got auctioned off in February. I ate at that same place back in July of 2023 and took a Pic in that sane booth. Memories
Best ending ever, Rorschach test for viewer
Tony got clipped at the end
Paulie turned on Tony; his apprehension to takeover Carlo's gig wasn't because of his age, but it was due to him joining New York. When the last sit down is over, Paulie and Butch have an interaction. Paulie knew Tony was finished.

That last scene with Uncle Jun always destroys me 💔
What a fun ride with yall!!!!!!!! ❤
Here’s the correct interpretation of the ending:
Tony Soprano was shot. The blackness is Tony’s POV; the entire last scene is shot from Tony face, the diner door bell rings, Tony looks up > we see his POV. David Chase said “its all there,” and it literally is (rewatch it after reading this, its obvious) here’s the explanation:
- Christopher’s 3 oclock meaning
- 3 onion rings at table
- 3 people at table
- Meadow 3 attempts of parallel parking
- Junior’s “All things come in 3’s”
- This would be the THIRD attempt on Tony’s life
- “You probably don’t hear it when it happens”
- Tribute to Tony’s favourite Godfather scene - Member’s Only Jacket goes to washroom to get gun (like Al Pacino did)
- Carmela is the third person to walk through the door at Holsten’s
- Tony is shot at his 3 oclock
- 3rd “Don’t Stop” verse is where it goes black
- “Third strike and im out right?” - Tony
Ending of Many Saints - Tony waiting for Dickie at Holsten’s who died.. Holsten’s the start and end for Tony. Constantly looking at the door for dickie
Thanks for getting into The Sopranos, you two! Loved watching your reaction to all this!!! Cant wait to see what series comes next.
Thanks so much for providing a great reaction to literally the greatest television show of all time. 👍
It’s amazing that this great series came from executive producer David Chase writing a story about his relationship with his mother.
“Bye bye, pop pop 💥💥 “ is one of the coldest lines in all of Sopranos… 19:23

Remember when Bobby said... "You probably don't even hear it when it happens" Tony looks up, and it's lights out after getting shot and killed most likely by that guy coming back out of the bathroom with the "Members Only Jacket" on. Probably payback for killing a NY boss. It could have been one of the other four families that didn't like that. Just my opinion.
I think carmine jr and butchie decided that Tony and Phil had to go.

We all had the same reaction when the screen went to black. People thought there was something wrong with the cable lol.
"Don't stop....." BANG, Tony is dead.
Also....it has been recently confirmed that the Russian from the Pine Barrens episode survived. He climbed a tree and waited until it was safe to get away. He stumbled upon some boy scouts who were camping in the area and they helped him. In the final season they did shoot a scene where Paulie and Chris spot him at a bar. Then they shot him in the alley. David Chase didn't like the scene so he cut it from production.
The guy in the members only jacket comes back out of the bathroom to kill Tony. From that direction he’d be at Tony’s 3 o’clock. Fulfilling the prophecy from Chris’ coma dream.
When Phil gets it, watching you two react in 0.25 playback speed is hilarious! 😆
In the last scene of the Season 6 premiere after Junior shoots Tony looks like he’s dead. This episode opens with Tony looking like he’s laying in a coffin with organ funeral music playing in the background. The details the writers put in this show is what makes it GOATed.
Toney got wacked by the guy in the Members Only jacket!!
The actor who played Paulie had it in his contract that he would not die in the series..
That quick fade to black most likely meant Tony was killed. Remember the previous shooters wore hats. Notice how Tony suddenly looked up.
Also something important about the ending. There is huge focus on Meadow struggling to park and get to the restaurant in time. Meadow has unintentionally saved Tony multiple times. In the first seasons the College episode, where some rat guy was thinking of killing Tony, but when he saw him with drunk Meadow it made him hesitate and not kill Tony. Later Meadow takes the lamp with a bug in it to her dorm room, saving Tony from some FBI case. Later when Tony is in the coma he want's to enter the house where he sees someone resembeling his mother(basically if he enters he dies) but it's Meadow voice that stops him. And in here Meadow would sit on the right side of Tony, covering his 3 o'clock making it hard to make a hit on him from the bathroom. But this time she couldn't make it on time.
Lmao we all that same reaction.....all of us‼️....thanks for bring us along to ur sopranos journey....if ur into mob series u should try the boardwalk empire series.....its how the roots of NYC mob starts in the 1900s....plus many of the sopranos actors are in it like tony B and a few others plus Omar from the Wire has a major role in the series.....i think y'all 2 would enjoy it and get into it also.....once again thanx for all you do for us fans
I believe that was everyone reaction to the end of this last episode of Sopranos. Lol😅. It was great watching Sopranos with you ❤️ both.
I remember being hooked on watching The Sopranos.
One of the most anticipated and talked about finales. We all felt the same way.
I’ve watched the entire series several times. Watching it again with you two has been fun! Waiting for your reactions on certain events and knowing what’s coming is part of the fun. Regarding the ending everyone was shocked when it happened because we don’t know what happened. Do they live on, or does Tony get whacked, we’ll never know. The first indication that David Chase likes to leave loose ends open was the Pine Barrens episode; we NEVER found out what happened to that Russian! Anyway, it’s been a blast!😊❤️
I've loved every minute of this.
Thank, guys. And Asia, you sounded great singing along with Steve Perry!

Bro thought there was a post credit scene 😭😭 they got us all LOL
the guy in the Members Only jacket comes out of the restroom and shoots Tony in the head . . . Tony never heard or saw anything . . . that's why the screen goes black
This has to be the boldest ending to a tv show I’ve seen because Chase leaves it up to the audience to piece together what happened. Alot of people were initially disappointed when this episode first aired and people were saying it was the worst ending ever. However, most of the fanbase appreciates the ending now because its more effective than anything that they could’ve shown to us on the screen
I've been waiting on Asia and BJ to get to this episode. The looks on your alls faces. Priceless
