    got mine today, its superb, tiniest of setup changes needed, bang on and really impressed at cuts. just ran a load of 50mm ash through it and it ate it no problem. dust extraction was excellent, huge improvement over the rage 5 (got rid of one two years ago).

    Nice bit o kit that. ALMOST makes me wish I had waited a year before pulling the trigger on the Rage 5-s. Short of the horrible dust collection on it, it works. Ok so looking at the riving knife it can not be lowered to blade height? So for doing non through cuts it would need to be completely removed? Its been said by others that in the manual it alludes to the riving knife having the ability to be adjusted to blade height, i guess just by looking at the slot in the knife it can not go any lower?

    • @sumeraybuilds
      @sumeraybuilds  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry it’s taken me awhile to get back to you, but I’ve just checked this and can confirm that the evolution doesn’t have another setting for the riving knife so you will have to remove it if it’s too high

    • @Stu81
      @Stu81 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sumeraybuilds hi thanks for the reply, I actually purchased the table saw shortly after my comment and yes it is not adjustable, but that's the least of my worries, I got the standard version without soft start and it has brutal start up!!! When I first switched it on I literally crapped myself! I didn't quite fully press the button and with the bang it made I thought I had blown my electrics, I'm now looking at retro fitting a soft start which I do not understand why it is not a standard thing, the start up is so brutal I literally stand out the way and have to brace myself as I Invision the blade exploding 🤣, I've not tested to see yet but I think that if I set the blade at 45° the start up will put the blade out of position, so when doing waterfalls I have the blade set at 45.5° with a digital reader, I'm not confident it will hold that with such a brutal start up.

    Very useful information on this saw thank you. I'm trying to decide between this and the 250mm DeWalt which is more than twice the price. Also the DeWalt DWE7492-GB 240V doesn't have soft-start so I'd have to put it on the machine.
    Can I ask you have you put a straight edge across the table of the Evolution to check for flatness? I've heard that the can suffer from a warped table as can the DeWalt actually.

    • @sumeraybuilds

    It looks like an evolution of the Metabo HPT saw of which I use an offshoot of. That sliding bit of the table looks very enticing if it's done well and the tracks don't clog with sawdust. Also the miter adjustment knob if it's like the one on mine isn't so nice as the locking mechanism can throw off any micro adjustment you make. I'd like to check it out here in Canada but it's doubtful I'll get the chance.

    Shoud I buy this table from evolution or the dewalt dwe 7845?

    It looks and sounds brilliant, but... my experience of Evolution matches that of others: quality control. Get lucky, you have a near perfect tool for a stunning price. Get unlucky, and you'd better not have an important job to do while you return it and eke out a bit more life out of your old one. I suspect it's safest to wait till rebuilt returns go on sale so they will have made sure they work properly.
    Like all prosumer tools, OK for DiYer who is able to identify faults and get them rectified or the professional who doesn't use that tool all the time. As a retired DiYer who is time rich but cash not rich, I'd look at it, maybe try a refurb version to replace my current almost junk Rutland Tools ultra-cheap model. But I'd probably end up saving up for DeWalt corded if it still does well in reviews by new purchasers (they seem to have given up on their corded tools in last 5 years). It often only takes a couple of DiY jobs to cover the cost of a pro tool compared with hiring a pro to do the job (if you can find a good one)

    • @sumeraybuilds
      @sumeraybuilds  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the insight and see what you're saying. I do agree that for some DIYers, perhaps the more advanced, a better known and likley more expensive brand is preferable. Evolution, at least in my opinion, are a good starter brand for people just starting out.

      It’s to prevent wood from twisting or pinching on the back side of the blade which would cause it to ride up the blade and kick back at you. Not just small offcuts, but some rather large ones too

    • @Pygex
      @Pygex 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To greatly reduce the risk of kick back which is caused by slightly tilting the work piece causing the rising teeth on the back to fling the piece back at you with a huge force.
      The thing that prevents small things being flung at you is a zero-clearance insert.
      The raving knife on this one is not that optimal because you can't make dados while having it on (it's longer than the blade). The saw I have has two raving knives, one with the guard and one without which matches the height of the blades.

      @@sumeraybuilds A riving knife decreases the risk of pinching and kickback in LARGE workpieces, it prevents your workpiece pinching the blade. Small off cuts can still be launched towards you simply by being next to the blade. The drag from a spinning blade can suck small pieces against the blade and still shoot them back. the riving knife does virtually nothing to protect you from small offcuts.
