I got a K2 about five weeks ago. And yes, it does not get to zero point, only at 2. I also have a problem turning the clicks. After the fourth (4) click, the entire number-ring becomes very loose, so it is impossible to grind. I ended up turning it to either number 3 or 4 for my Moka Pot. I know this is absolutely incorrect, but I managed to grind, usually fine, too fine. Sometimes my coffee turns up bitter, sometimes acidic (mostly bitter because I have medium-dark roast beans). I would prefer it to be a little coarser. I would have a problem grinding for pour over or French Press. Any idea how this can be rectified, or is my grinder faulty?? I ended up buying a K6 and have yet to use it. But I would still like to use the K2, after all, I have already spent the money. Pretty annoying, actually 😑
Hey, K6 owner here. Great review, would find it very helpful when I was looking for a grinder myself. Everything was on topic, great commentary, paired with proper visuals. To add to the topic, zero point is off for many people, and it changes in the first couple of months. Mine shifted from -5 to -10 without any dissembly in a matter of month. Glad that it's an even number and easy to count. And I think there is no way to calibrate it, so you gotta get used to it. And based on the other reviews I wouldn't RDT it at all. Since there are alot of complaints about rust.
Hi! Can I ask you something? What do you mean with RDT? I just bought the K6 so i think it's something worth keeping in mind. According to the internet RDT means when you spray water to the beans right? Is that what it's not recommended?
This is great to know. Mine shipped at -5 out of the box on Friday and it’s already at -8 a couple days and 500g later. I also thought i broke it out of the box bc I tightened too far on the 4th rotation haha.
Se você reparar sempre o zero encosta uma lamina na outra... os números que passam não tem efeito. É uma proteção. Os números negativos são fantasmas. O moedor sempre estará ajustando ao 0 perfeitamente.
I also haven't found a way to 0 it out , and seems to get worse with use. Even with fresh beans I find I need to adjust on the high side of the scale. I don't spray because of the possible rust issue.
Hello! Really informative and detailed videos! You’ve earned a subscriber! I wonder what your experience has been comparing the flavour profile of the S3 to the kingrinder k6 for pour over only? I only do pour overs so espresso isn’t on the books for me :)
Hi, thanks for the comment. For my personal taste preference, I like the S3. I especially enjoy using it for medium and darker roasted beans, sweeter cup. K6 produces better brew for lighter roast, brighter, more complex in flavor.
Thanks so much for the reply and the suggestion - that is really helpful. Will get the S3 as I do prefer med dark roasts too - currently monsoon Malabar coffee is my go to med-dark roast, even though it typically gets a lot of hate from coffee aficionados for being earthy/muddy 😂
Thanks for your video! When I got my K6, the finest setting already wasn't at 0. The manual says something about not twisting it below 0 since it can damage the burs. Also, I had to push the U-shaped clip a bit in order to get it out.
Hey man nice video ! It’s really nice that you made a comparison between the grinders. I also prefer the K6 for pour over compared to the R3. I have not made espresso with both (while testing the K6) but the R3 is very nice although it takes a lot of time to grind 😅. The K4 is not good at pour over, and with espresso it delivers a nice full body with a syrupy texture and blended notes. I would say it accentuates the nutty and chocolate notes and mutes the acidity. For someone who drinks more medium and darker roaster I believe the K4 will do a better job, for anything that is lighter the K6 would be better. If this will be your only grinder I think the K6 is a better option as it’s more flexible. I would say the R3 gives a nicer grinding experience for anything else than espresso. I think the feeding rate is very low compared to the other grinders and that’s why it’s more smooth, also the handle is longer. I don’t personally own a K-6, but after my testing, I think I might buy one (there is one at around 40$ available in my country). I was also looking at the S3 but I might not get that one unless I find it very cheap as I don’t think it suits my palate but it’s very pretty in green.
Thank you for your comment! I took your advice and got the K6 instead of K4-it's really great! It's versatile and works well for both pour-over and espresso. And it's super easy and quick to grind. ☕
I had K6 for two years , but honestly it’s not as good as 1zepresso nor C40. It’s worth the price. However, if you are looking for a high quality grinder, you should choose others .
I am waiting for mine to arrive but read the manual online. One thing they say is that yes even from new it will turn back past zero but to avoid doing so. Zero is zero and I would guess that turning past that only puts undue pressure on the grind burs. I would have it at highest setting before disassemble then make sure it's at same spot when putting back together then returning to zero then see if burs touch🤔🤷♂️. I have purchased an air blower and hopefully it will be sufficient enough that I can avoid pulling my grinder apart too much. Will see when it arrives
Got mine today, use twice and already in love with it. Took about 50 seconds to grind 25g of beans at 60 clicks (medium fine). I had little to no static issues after I tapped the grinder on my hand a few times. It amuses me that some of you seem to think grinding real fast like you're trying to crank up a motor is best. I just tried to keep a steady pace and grinds are beautiful and so even. Clean up is a breeze too. This is quicker than my electric blade grinder as it's quick and easy to set up.
Thanks a lot. i've been searching for this rival. K6 is good deal but the look of 1zpresso is tempting. do you have any experience with 1zpresso X-Ultra?
I have the X Pro S, but I don't have the X Ultra. I'm not sure if they share the same burr but only differ in design. The X Pro S adjusts at 12.5 microns, great for espresso and pour-over, but it takes longer to grind because of the smaller burr. That's why I don't use it as often as the K Ultra.
The truth is that you don't need to calibrate the grinder. The burrs stop moving at zero, and any rotation after that has no effect on their position; it's just a false rotation. So, simply stop rotating at zero and don't make any subtractions, as doing so will grind finer.
I haven't compared their coffee and grinds side by side yet. It would be an interesting comparison! The P2 is plastic and costs half the price of the K6. :)
@@brewcoffeehome from memory, they should have similar burrs, too. That could mean comparable flavor profiles, but I don't think a direct comparison has been done yet.
K6 owner here. I really liked the MAVO Phantox Pro more but ended up paying 77 bucks including tax from AliExpress for my K6. Can't complain. The zero calibration is a common complaint and you can try reassemble with slightly different offset, or just remember the zero offset (which is what I do).
As for similarities, King Grinder's marketing goes like "we are constantly being harassed by Commandante's legal department " as a joke. Disclaimer: no it's not identical to the C40's burr.😅
@@brewcoffeehome It is a bit nicer and has a larger burr. In terms of capability these grinders are in the same ball park. Only differentiator to me is granularity for dialing-in espresso. Like C40's 30um per click is less desirable.
This grinder is still pretty new, and I haven't used it for dark roasted beans. I used 1Zpresso's brush in the video, it's easier to remove residue with the harder brush.
i use one of those pipe brushes for straws. technically it came with a funnel system that i bought, but it works great for that. also have a k2 btw. i don't recommend the silicone ones because the "nubs" aren't as fine as the little bristles on the regular straw brush--it doesn't clean in the grooves as well.
I think the K6 just works. it's fast, and you can use a drill for higher efficiency. It takes about 25-30s to grind for drip coffee and 30-40s for finer grinds, but manual grinding for a coffee cart sounds tough.
I dont think anyone would recommend manual grinders if you are making for customers. It will be very difficult for you and will cause waiting times. Invest in an electric grinder (baratza encore ESP for 200usd) or deal with a roaster near you and buy bulk for a discounted price, try talking to the roaster’s manager/owner for this
I used my K6 daily for 6 months and the rubber sleeve thing is pretty beat up, the o ring broke and it is 23 clicks off of its original zero point, which wasn't zero to begin with. Quality in the cup hasn't changed nor the actual functionality. That is after pulling on average, four shots of espresso a day. I can imagine the longevity of the grinder wouldn't be the greatest if I had kept that up. But then again, I could never have kept that up which is why I got an electric grinder. For occasional use, or a single coffee a day I guess it would last quite a long time. I still use mine for when the power goes out paired with the piccopresso. I have had the grinder for over a year now, but it only saw continuous use for that 6 month. I just drink too much coffee to hand grind espresso. That said, if I were to do it again, I would pay more for a quality jump. That said, the value is there with the K6. I think you get what you pay for, or a little more. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for sharing. Indeed, it has many small parts like o-rings and U-clip that are easy to lose and might be hard to replace. I’ve also heard that the bearing might rust if you frequently use RDT. The durability of the K6 is something to consider; mine is still new, but maybe I’ll do a one-year review in the future. Which electric grinder did you buy?

Yes, it's a nice small grinder, I made a full review, please check it out on my channel. :)
