    Great video! As someone outside of the US I didn't know Caltrain used the Bombardier Bi-Levels, I thought they only had the Nippon Sharyo cars, you learn something new everyday! I loved the last shot with the triple meet between the CalTrain's and the Amtrak train.

    In my backyard! Well, almost. Used to live on Gifford and Park, would often hear the Amtrak Coast Starlight come through Diridon in the evenings. I noticed the gantry and substation install work. Before COVID-19 my daily commute took me past Tamien station where the ACE train terminates.
    The Caltrain trains run a lot faster up on the Peninsula, some scary street-level crossings (Watkins Ave, Atherton, for example)
    Thanks For Posting! Stay safe on the tracks!

    Great video Michael, whilst I know electrification is the way forward it will be sad to see some of the older classes of locomotive go to the cutters torch. 🤔💙 Stay safe 💙

      Well, Caltrain will keep 920-928, all Boise Bullets & Screamers. The rest will become benches at stations.

      @Acerailfan3306 Trackside oh. I dislike the newer ones tbh. Something just doesn’t look right about them

      @Acerailfan3306 Trackside The only ones built at Erie have been MP54s, making them Erie Earpiercers

      after they get the stadler kis up and running, they should sell the old trainset to Arizona, and maybee they can use these old trainset on the commuter route from Phoenix to Tucson.

    Sad to see them go. I saw in a corner at king street station, there were 2 toasters (aem7) trains that are going to be used!

      1 is for testing the Catenary, and the other is a parts source

      @Acerailfan3306 Trackside Yea, they'll be turned into benches because Metra is buying new cars from Alstom

    From what I understand these trains will still be in service on the Gilroy Branch and there is debate on who will service the Monterey County Extension to Salinas; It could be Caltrain, or it could be the Capitol Corridor.
    Love riding the Caltrain and I'm sad the baby bullet express is on pause right now. Thanks for sharing.

    How many diesel trains will be needed for the gilroy route after the project is completed?

    Wow that's a lot of Metrolink coaches! Are those bought or leased?

    • @AVeryRandomPerson
      @AVeryRandomPerson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are Metrolinks unwanted Gen 2 coaches. Caltrain is wasting money by rebiulding them.

    • @OntarioTrafficMan
      @OntarioTrafficMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Acerailfan3306 Trackside Interesting that they're in such bad condition. GO Transit still runs BiLevel coaches from the 1970's and they are spotless (thanks in part to renovations and rebuilds over the years).

    How busy are those rush hours trains, with the pandemic? It's been a couple years since I've been on Caltrain, but the ride can be bumpy. Hopefully with new passenger cars, improvements and electrification, this will change.

    to me as someone from the civilized world it's kinda odd to see a well frequented (judging from the doubledeck cars) commuter railway that's not running electric from the very beginning. but hey, at least they're buying their new trainsets from the civilized world.

    So how are you filming ? You are trespassing on Caltrain property!

      There is a station called college park that very few trains stop at just outside San Jose Diridon station. Since it’s a station anyone can go there but very few people actually take the train out of there.
