- ACE, or Altamont Corridor Express, is a passenger rail service that travels between Stockton and San Jose, California. Currently, the railroad is undergoing a number of changes, with the introduction of new Siemens SC-44 Charger locomotives and a brand new paint scheme. New Alstom built bilevel passenger cars are also on the way. In this video, we will take a look at a selection of ACE trains in the year 2022. We'll see some of the older F40PH-3C locomotives as well as the new charger locomotives as they carry passengers to and from Silicon Valley.

Great video! Yeah, ACE has been undergoing changes since around 2020 I think. It’s cool seeing the mix of new SC-44 locomotives, while also good still seeing the older equipment of F40PH-3Cs and cabcars. More recently, ACE came out with new ACE CEM Cabcar 3310, which has a K5CA, not really a favorite to me. But still, in general, no equipment lasts “forever”, so I think it’s understandable ACE, like other services, upgrades their equipment.

A number of people would rather want K5LA’s, but I think that’s overthought. Maybe a K3LA would best to hear instead.
Many thanks! Transition eras are always interesting because you get to see a mix of different equipment and paint schemes. I look forward to seeing the new cab cars next time I'm in the area. It would be neat to hear some of the older K5LAs on the new cab cars.

I PAINTED THAT SAN JOAQUIN 💥 IN 1998 🎯🎩... I MOVED BACK TO BOISE AND BOISE LOCOMOTIVE 🚂 SADLY LOOKS LIKE A GHOST TOWN... THOSE ENGINES ARE MASSIVE 💪 I WASN'T A BIG FAN OF THE COLOR CHOICE OF PURPLE GOING DOWN THE MIDDLE 🤣 BUT I LOVED THAT ENGINE ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE TRUCKS 💯💪🤩💖

3105 horn is just PERFECT!!
3103 3301 and 3307 are top tier out there. Sweet footage! This is my 4th favorite passenger railroad from the westcoast🎉. Even tho 3102 is fouled, it sounds ok.

The Ace SC 44 charger train locomotives 🚂 models are my favorite train 🚂 locomotives models because I like the designs colors and models itself and I always wanted to see ride or drive them it would be nice awesome amazing and fantastic

I went to San Jose for this summer and I see the Metra, ACE Trains and Caltrain
There's no metra in San jose
you’re probably referring to Caltrain instead of Metra, Caltrain uses Gallery Bi level cars and Bombardier Bi Level cars like the one Ace uses
Great shots! The bridges (and everything else) out at Alviso are always hit and miss due to water levels / wind conditions. I do miss ACE 3016, wonder where she ended up.
Thank you! Alviso can be tricky, especially with all the construction work going on now. 3106 and 3101 have both been removed from service as part of the Carl Moyer grant program. Both have had their diesel engines disabled with the arrival of the new Charger locomotives.

What a Horn Madness?!?!
I wonder if the ACE will ever consider electrification considering its proximity to the newly-built CalTrain corridor, alongside the soon to be finished HST project. Considering the San Joaquin's suffer from some of the worst air quality in the country, it would be a decent dent in emissions knocked off by the service, alongside additional benefits in timeliness and reliability. Of course, the big elephant in the room there is still the carcentric designs of many valley cities, with the freight traffic being all diesel, but hopefully those can be ameliorated in conjunction. I like the new livery, very "Old school Silicon Valley" like an old Macintosh or Cisco box.
There have been a lot of different plans in recent years for improving ACE service. The big project now is extending trains to Merced and Sacramento. They've also considered using alternative alignments through various sections to separate ACE trains from Union Pacific freight traffic. As long as trains run mostly on freight lines, I would not expect serious talks of overhead electrification. One thing that is being discussed is the possibility of converting at least some of the F40 fleet into battery units. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next decade or two.
@@CoasterFan2105 Ah, that's true. Its definitely an uphill battle considering they use some of UPs busiest lines from coastline to the Corridor. I'm hoping at least the CalHSR projects can give them some opportunities for realignment, or at least push the railroad to put some money into the infrastructure. It's strange to see a commuter line have to use so many sidings and single-tracks.

3305 and 3307 seem to be keeping up the classic strong narrow fronts that ACE is known for (and 3105 sounds like coaster 2303 which isn't good)
ACE 3105 was one of the later ACE F40s, delivered in the mid 2000s. Its horn was replaced a couple years ago with a newer K5LA. It sounds like not all the bells are sounding on the horn.
@@CoasterFan2105 it also sounds heavily restricted like many horns now unfortunately, although that may just be because its fouled
I don't care for the new livery. I like the engines but not the actual cars that follow, nice video! Edit: when did they get chargers????

I'm not sure what the exact plan is, but I believe some are to be converted into battery power.

The possibility of their F40PH has a high chance due to their new SC44 Charger locomotives. They may end up like Coaster
