A very fine crew, they treated her with respect and explained all of the controls in a simple and not overbearing manner. Back in the 1930's to the late 1960's my maternal Grandfather was an engine driver in NSW Australia. Two things, I love redheads and that leaking steam valve would have driven my nuts. Many thanks for the posting
@@thomastsangthomas1616 They shouldn't really let a woman get involved. She might make a mistake and let the water drop below the crown sheet or something. Far too risky!
There are lady locomotive drivers in the Indian Railways now, for diesel, electric and Metro (city transit) trains. During the steam era there were no lady loco drivers though
That is the most beautiful red haired lady I’ve ever seen! I have pure admiration for her taking on the awesome challenge of operating that steam locomotive. I would adore seeing more of her!😉
Good on Her , I hope it was a Driver Experience Day. I have done 2 foot gauge steamer at the West Lancs Light Railway and a Class 47 Diesel at the East Lancs railway
With the greatest respect to the young lady engaging in this experience there is clear sexism in the premise of this video. Many people can control a steam loco, it just requires training and aptitude. Firing is different since it involves a significant degree of physical strength and skill. I'm a wee guy. I reckon I could drive an engine but the firing for an express length of track would be way beyond my physical prowess. In steam days no one could be promoted to driver without being first a fireman, this was in order that the young and fit men would do the physical task. Older men were drivers, they no longer had to shovel coal, tonnes at a time, the intelligent became "top link" drivers. I fear that the video is premised on the " surprise" that a young woman can drive a loco , when in fact any old person can do it with instruction. The real skill is the line knowledge (and defensive driving among others) which women drivers on the UK network display every day.
Funny meeting you here Brian. That was cool, eh? We have Amtrak Patty here in Central Florida who is known for her horn shows, but I have yet to see her. Cheers, Dan
Nobody ahould say that women can´t handle a steam engine . With a well set explaining the ladies could do that very well as seen ! It´s only necessary to find technically interested Girls and off they go !
Which three of you have pressed the dislike button for heaven's sake ?. Look. There are no direction indicators on it and you don't have to steer it into a parking space. What's the problem ?.
Good grief...they'll be voting and wanting to drive cars next! lol! Well done for a bit of 'sexual inclusivity' ....women have been driving trains in the USSR for years - notably on the Trans-Siberian. About time girls got involved in locomotion over here.

That's something great, males respecting a female driver, especially when they are driving a steam locomotive ❤️

As a diesel locomotive Engineer myself I envy her for getting the opportunity to operate a steam locomotive, they are my first love.

Wow we need more pretty girls to run the trains. Makes watching a real treat for us old guys that need a bit of cheer. Thanks for the great video
Something different in space on a footplate, compared to other loco´s. Five men and still no complaints at all
Pretty cool. I have only seen one female locomotive engineer in my life in person in the states. I have a video of her in the train going by.

It’s long way from the coal to the door and it’s a pretty long box too.
ergonomics clearly weren't high on the LNER's list of priorities!
What happened @ 6:10?

The video title (hopefully unintentionally) is a bit clunky.
