What a great video!! I really miss running and firing a full size steam locomotive. It's the ultimate life experience. I love the look on her face when she spins the drivers a bit. What a gorgeous locomotive 7820 is.
Possibly the coolest train video in the history of train video’s. Can’t tell me that she wasn’t physically capable. Hard working, completely involved and cheerful to boot. I know that steam is less efficient than other methods of locomotion but damn, it’s still attractive and gives me chills to watch and listen.
Please don't, she is part of the great women's revolution that is taking place all over the world. They're taking on roles that were once exclusively male, but they're putting on a show.

A great great grand father was a Ganger on the MSLR and then station master. My wife's grandad drove Manors. He would have sat right there on this very loco!

Didn't see the fireman checking he's been given the correct token! OK, I assume the section signal is interlocked with the token instrument but even so...Abermule and all that.
The fireman made one serious error. He didn't even look at the single line token he had picked up and he never repeated it to the driver! It could have been the WRONG token!
Maybe he did - but it's usually something you do immediately on receiving it and when they stopped he didn't go back to it - he went on with his firing duties. He should have held onto it till they stopped instead of just hanging it up.
Ah, armchair comments, love 'em. At Winchcombe the responsibility is to keep a look out and make sure that nobody is about to wander off the edge of the platform whilst hidden behind the screen of their iPad, camera and that nobody is opening doors etc. You are stopping there anyway and the token is always checked once the train has come to a stand rather than as a distraction at a safety critical time.
I used to have the connections to ride with the crew anytime on the Texas State Railroad but all those connections are gone now. Time cannot take away the wonderful memories made in the early 2000’s when I lived in TX. It was a good learning experience too; steam rules.

The Great Northern Railway also drove on the right, the Flying Scotsman was built that way, & later converted to LHD. Whether a loco is LHD or RHD matters a great deal when positioning signals. HS 125's are centre drive!
Not only are the controls of Great Western locos like that different to those used in the US, they’re also very different to those used on locos throughout the rest of Britain. The GWR is well known for doing things their own way, which is why GWR fans love them and everyone else hates them.

@@Ben31337l It's called building muscle strength to match the men. Been working at a railroad museum for 10 years now and while we don't have operational steam, I can handle some of our equipment much easier than several of the guys can!

Great video. Just one comment. Should the fireman have checked the staff when he received it? In New Zealand, you always read out to your mate what is written on the token or tablet to ensure you have the right one for the section ahead.
Remembering my childhood days. Very fascinating these Railway engines. Full excitement and amusement all over. How it operates and what s going next. Roaring speed and whistling in a decent fashion. Big wheels spinning continuously alongwith small ones. A magical gift for us. Now it s story of olden days.
Wow that's so freaking cool it's like you got to jump start it every time you stop like if you were to stall a car on the highway or somewhere busy you know you got to get it back started and going fast SHE'S NOT UGLY TO BE OLD
I love those coal-dusty girls! When I see the concentration going into the job, I know how she feels being in control of a few hundred tons of loco+train. It is certainly an experience any spirited lass should try. If you're afraid of a bit of dirt, it's not for you.
It was my immense pleasure to learn how to drive the engine that couldn't able to get appropriate marks and unable to secure a railway job but that iron blood is present in my blood.
Sir, we have never seen a steam-powered train, but at one time in British India, we did not have the good fortune to run this train, which has an engine here.
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore; not like they did back in 1954 still get a far away look in my eye when I hear an old train in the night!

As of 4:00 is perfect to show trainee drivers, it demonstrates perfectly the visual and audible transition to priming.

125s are left-hand drive, the class 252 is true centre-drive.
