I’d love to see an in depth interview with him about how he creates his bass lines and how he has tweaked then over the years. I guess as he improved as a player he saw where he could enhance those classic lines that he laid down so many years ago and when so young. I’m a similar age to the U2 guys slightly younger but well remember them emerging on the scene. I enjoy your covers Steph and you are clearly a talented multi instrument musician. Another song that Adam’s line changed quite significantly is ‘Even Better Than The Real thing’. I don’t see too many covers of both versions. I know you did the earlier version and I’d love to see you do the updated version. All the best to you.

This song is a great example of how Adam Clayton functions as more than the bassist in the U2. He is like the band’s rhythm guitarist and that allows the Edge to float above it all, playing all his unique riffs. Edge always talks about the War album as the one where he didn’t use much echo but it’s certainly all over this song. I love his playing but you almost have to be a mathematician to play like him, which is frustrating if you suck at math like I do. 😀
Mathematician is right - especially during those sixteenth note harmonics in the second verse! It all falls apart if even one note is slightly out of place, as it’s so tightly locked in with the delay. And Edge plays it perfectly almost every single time.
Beautifully done! One of my favorite guitar solos in that song. So unique, especially where Edge worked in the A-D-G figure on open strings that occurs at 3:50.

That song NEEDS the symbiosis between the guitar and piano. And the best way to achieve that is when the guitarists plays the piano - at the same time - like The Edge did. Excellent cover!!
I was just watching the New Year's Day (live from Dortmund 1984) version and it brought me here to your cover. Amazing job on those guitar/keyboard transitions . the timing of the slides with the delay is very impressive and catching those riffs coming off the keyboard on time with the right volume - very good work. Im surprised you dont play drums too.
Oh what 7 years can do Steph! The first one is great, but this one is exceptional! Everything piece is played wonderfully but with a bit more skill and passion than the first one. What I like better in this one more than the other is the piano. That has always been what I’ve like from this song. It’s more prominent here and u can hear it better. Great job and keep it up! ✌🏻

He did use delay on NYD it’s a dotted 8th at 330 ms and heavy reverb he used a delay on the Yamaha CP70 as well at about 360 ms
