Sorry if this has already been mentioned but the marine rank of captain is called Taisa(大佐) in Japanese while Drake’s rank in sword is Taichou(隊長). The marine rank is just a typical Japanese rank in the armed forces while the sword rank is more of a term for someone who leads a squad.
@@Dave102693 Yes, the divisions in Bleach are called (a number)tai(隊) in Japanese so the leaders of these divisions are taichou(隊長) literally squad head/leader. It’s also the exact term used for the divisions in Whitebeard’s crew. For example ace was the nibantai taichou(二番隊隊長).
@@AlifyaNursukmaForicha I wouldn’t say it’s a mistranslation because “captain” is an acceptable translation of “taichou” but in the context of a series that already has captain as a marine rank it should’ve been translated to a different and equally acceptable term like “squad leader” or even “squad captain”. Commander is a rank in the navy as well being known as “chuusa(中佐)” in Japanese so that wouldn’t be optimal either.
It's called beehive island because hachinosu can also mean honeycomb, which is like a metaphor for someone riddled with bullet holes, because the honeycomb is riddled with holes.
Koby is a captain, and a hero of the Marines. Despite saying he was thankful for Koby's deeds on Rocky Port, Blackbeard captured him. Cross Guild has bounties on Marines. Oh damn. Is Koby going back to Alvida? I'd love to see that interaction!
I really doubt Koby was captured for realsies. Especially with all the recent stuff with Sabo shows that the newspaper isn't 100% reliable. If Koby is with Blackbeard, it's probably willingly. Possibly to make contact with Kuzan
Yeah, I imagine a try-hard perfectionist who gets this insanely complicated idea in his head, it doesn't come out 100% like he imagined, and so it's a failure that goes in the trashcan! My bet is 1,000% that the reason Momo's fruit is a failure is simply because it's pink, not blue.
Given that Vegapunk described themselves as mediocre. I think that adds to theory Vegapunk is a perfection that harps on the little details. I like to think the reason they deemed Momo's fruit a failure because it's the fish-fish fruit model Senryu (Azure dragon) but Momo isn't an Azure dragon he's a pink dragon, something this black and white manga felt necessary to point out a few times
I read a comment somewhere that says maybe the reason Vegapunk deemed their experiment a failure was because they were trying to get and copy Kaido's lineage factor but instead copied his DF's. This might also be when they find out about Zoan fruits having a will of their own.
I can see either possibility, but I have seen people both call something a failure because they intended a different result and those who apparently don't consider something a success because of a small detail.
Franky and Vegapunk are either going to be the best friends ever or are going to despise each other with every fibre of their being, there is no in between
Remember how excited Chopper was to meet Hogback during Thriller Bark? I hope we don't have a repeat of that and we instead get Franky and Vegapunk combined madness instead
Funny enough, they both seem to be very emotional and sympathetic people (at least I get it for Vegapunk with trying to provide warmth to his people or accepting Kuma's wish to protect the Thousand Sunny in the training years). I feel they will have a heart-to-heart conversation about their invention's purpose to accomplish their dreams and the responsibility the creators have for bringing them to reality. I can assure you that if Vegapunk says something about not being happy with how the government is using his creations, or that he doesn't care what they do with them, Franky will snap.
Well, this version of vegapunk, destroyed one of its own inventions because it was going to chomp a ship so maybe they have common ground there? On the other hand, this vegapunk also wants to be able to salvage ships for parts and the shark already ate bonney's so maybe not lol
Theory, the woman at the end of the chapter IS the Dr. Vegapunk and she's used science to regain youth, much like Kureha learning to extend her youth. There's also that there are Pacifistas who bear resemblance to other characters, Vegapunk has also spliced DFs into objects and gave sentience. Considering the potential connection to the Revolutionary Army, Vegapunk could change sex through hormones and more science. Alternatively, she's the original Vegapunk's daughter, granddaughter, or clone child.
I think the marine bases are named in order they were founded. The old g-1 was next to red line so it was founded first (after old marineford) and then as they founded more the number goes up.
@@Vaul. Nah fam I call clones/androids and they're all workers in the lab so technically it's a one-waifu operation. Imagine the gags Oda could do with this setup
My idea for Vega Punk with this reveal is that she is Punk and old man that marines keep referencing is Vega. So together they are Vega Punk, that would explain why half the machines or called Vega and the other Punk, its too people working as one. But that's just my quick theory atm
For real. The perfect late series addition for sure! We've gotten to know him slowly over time too which has made the journey with him and his character development so good!

You know at first I thought Vegapunk being "Vegapunk 2" meant the 2nd generation, but then I remembered that Kuma is known as PX-0, meaning this Vegapunk is likely the 3rd generation(assuming she kept the same naming scheme)
I love all the theories about Dr Vegapunk! Yeah, i can imagine her being a robot, clone or daughter/granddaughter, but still has the epitaph "Dr" bc well she just achieved the title naturally from having the same capacities as the original Dr. Vegapunk. And the number on her jacket could be throwing us off to make us think she's a robot but instead she's just literally the descendant. I'd say calling herself "mediocre" really pushes the idea she's a descendant who probably learned/is learning all she knew from Dr. Vegapunk 01. Anyway, we're probably a few panels away from getting that cleared up! Can't wait for the next one.
To be fair, after escaping impel down and going marineford, I think Jinbe knew what he was signing up for. He even says as much when he drags Luffy, Buggy, and Ivankov out of the water for like the third time in the anime.

@@TheJynxzx U sure? You can't just tattoo over a branding if your plan is to cover it up. It would be super challenging even with nowadays equipment and people that are specialised tattoo artists. I don't think the island is cold....I think Vegapunk succeeded in teraforming a winter island into a tropical one, like he was trying to doin his homeland.
That is likely, his hometown would have had a limited amount of money and resources to work with so having more to devote to the problem would assist in finding a possible solution.
She could be Dr. Vegapunk… A Dr. Vegapunk. The family name could still be Vegapunk, and it’s just that all of them are considered Dr. Vegapunk because they all have the same last name.
With how many times Oda has shown us other characters with object that have eaten devil fruits. I’m really hoping Ussop get something like that this arc with Vegapunk being involved. Almost every other ability shown in the story one of the straw hats have, the only ones are a devil fruit object, the mink ability and a logia.
Since we brought up the Sunny’s face again did anyone else forget that Nami when she was little had a shirt that was literally the sunny. That was a sunflower then it was sewn to look like a lion as a handy down, I am rewatching one piece and saw this
About the climate of the island, so far we only know the SURROUNDINGS of the island to be very cold, if the island is, as it appears, more tropical, then that could imply that it might've been a winter island in the past, but Vegapunk turned it into a summer island, this time succeeding in doing so. Maybe the surrounding ocean being unnaturally cold is a side-effect of that, as the cold temperature from the island is basically "pushed" off the island/the heat is taken from the surrounding ocean. Would also explain how that Warm Eddy or what it was called came to be, the extreme climate-change caused by the shift of the islands season might be to blame.
9:10 Sanji was confirmed to be the best swimmer in the crew in Punk Hazard, and heaviliy hinted at ever since Arlong Park. Now with Jinbe, of course, that will change, but I wouldn't be surprise if Sanji was not far behind him, and probably over several "normal" fishmen (because we know Jinbe is broken even for a Fishman, he is the freaking "First Son of the Sea")
One good point about changing out of wet clohtes for Jinbe, is that they're on a colder than winter island, and Jinbe doesn't want to freeze to death, because wet clothes sap your heat faster. Edit* Maybe with Vega Punk, the woman isn't simply Vegapunk, but maybe she's like one individual that comprises the hivemind of vega punk, or maybe vegapunk transplants his brain into a new body every few decades. Or MAYBE, Vegapunk really likes waifus, and decided to turn himself into one, and if that's the case, then he's Based AF.
It could be as simple as 'Vegapunk' is just a family name or title which both the old man we imagined and this girl shared. It just happens that both of them are referred as Dr. Vegapunk.
"Despite my mediocrity they like to call me their scientific genius" that there is why Momo's fruit is a failure, because Vegapunk's standards..... are fucking insane, so high that even they can't reach it
If Vegapunk found the secret of what devil fruits really are, and he found out how to create fake zoan devil fruits of certain animals up to and including Kaido's mythical dragon form, and he found out how to get inanimate objects to eat devil fruits, and with the latest reveal for Luffy we've learned that zoans can also be actual historical people (Nika supposedly being a person who actually existed), I think the explanation may be that Dr. Vegapunk found a way to become functionally immortal by created a Vegapunk Vegapunk fruit and feeding it to a cyborg so it basically becomes a clone of Vegapunk in the cyborg body just like Funkfreed is basically a clone of an Elephant but inside of a sword.
I don't feel like that's what happened, but it's amazing that your theory actually makes sense. Like, if that was revealed to be what happened, it would make sense.
Exactly what I've been saying. Also it's a total mad scientist thing to do to refer to their children just by the numbers of their birth order, like judge did
@@eliaspanayi3465 I think it was a choice by Vegapunk to show she does not feel worthy of continuing her father's legacy. Kind of like Melk 2's storyark from Toriko.
If you go by Pacifista naming she is the granddaughter. Remember, Kuma was PX 0 Wich would make Old man Vagapunk , Vagapunk 0 , his kid would be Vagapunk 1 , and his grandkids Vagapunk 2 That...or it is a cyborg body. Like the giant Mech 12 , or the Shark 03
I'm really surprised you didn't talk about the panels where luffy FINALLY refers to and talks about gear fifth, I imagine you'll cover it in another video? but it still surprised me, was really expecting it
Maybe it's off-base, but I'm hoping this Vegapunk is a franky-like situation: BF 36 and 37 are Franky himself, so this Punk 02 is Vegapunk himself, just a heavily modified cyborg that may have changed generations very recently
Admiralty don’t usually get to command individual ships. Their job is to hang back and communicate orders to the fleet. In a way, demoting Drake from Rear Admiral to Captain gives him more freedom to act on the front lines. The same thing happened in Star Trek to Rear Admiral James T. Kirk, demotion to Captain allowed him to resume direct command of the Enterprise.
Thank you for informing us of that. It does seem that in a way those who go higher up the ladder sometimes have less of an ability to do certain things they can do easily at lower ranks. Speaking of Drake, I wonder what happened to him. SWORD doesn't seem to be able to get into contact with him, you would think he would have contacted them by now.
Well, on the topic of Jinbei wringing his clothes out, maybe it was because the waters are super cold and he's not a Fish-man/Mink with blubber so the cold would bother him? I mean, some sharks like the cold, sure but they have to be built for that type of water. You can't drop a camel a penguin into the Sahara Desert and expect it to survive, right? Same idea.
Another theory I didn't see you talk about was it could be sanji's aunt. We know Vegapunk worked with judge in MADS. But he never said she was or wasn't related. And it would be so cool to see her like look at sanji and talk about how her vrother made cheap knock offs of her technology
Writing what I commented on Chibi review's video on the chapter: In ep 610 of the anime on Punk Hazard we get a flashback from Ceasar where we hear Vegapunk talk and he's a guy. Maybe Oda sensei changed his mind or she's just a robot or something along those lines just like you said.

I noticed about the jimbei-sanji part that tekking didn't mention robin, clearly because sanji wants to keep the monopoly of saving her from the water.
I imagine (and I may be wrong) that it works sort of like the title of captain in the real life Navy. You have the official rank called Captain which is equivalent to a Colonel in the army. Then you have the title of Captain, which is granted to anyone in charge of a ship regardless of their actual rank.
Oda didn't forget to draw the Sun Logo on Jinbe. Chopper is directly in front of his chest, and with the shading and outlining, there's no point in making the edges of the tat pop out. Probably maybe or he forgot
X Drake is literally stated to be the "leader" of sword in the Japanese version. Unlike the English word "captain", which can mean many different things, in Japanese the marine captain(大尉) and team captain(隊長) are two completely different words. But the two were both translated into one same word, which brought the confusion.
One interesting thing of note is that I was rereading punk hazard recently, another arc that takes place in a snowy landscape related to dr vegapunk, and when Brook first wakes up on the ship after it was moved to the snowy side he calls luffy's team and reports what happened and when they ask if he sees any buildings he replies that he does but says "none that look like they could be restaurants" this, paired with the comment Bonney makes about Egghead island, tells me that Dr Vegapunk hates restaurants. This is a very important detail please write this down tekking
I sort of figured that all the Marine bases are named based on when they were built, so G1 being right at the Red Line would be the oldest, then the next few in Paradise, etc. G14 may very well be the newest one, built next to Egghead Island to help guard Vegapunk, especially if you consider that Kaido and possibly Blackbeard are on islands right next to it. Likely Punk Hazard was always close to G1 and also G5 so there was no issue there, but Vegapunk's continued research required a dedicated marine base protecting it.
Have you thought about Bonney having something to do with Vegapunk? She and her fruit could be the reason why Vegapunk is young as Bonney stated that she is here business vise, also seems to be permitted to be here and she didn't arrive with her own crew, most likely on a Marine ship as this could be something that she regualrily does. Food for thought
I highly expect vegapunk is not in the slightest normal, maybe not even human at this point, I’m betting my money that vegapunk really IS a guy and this is just some weird experiment, maybe this is a clone he put a copy of his mind into, maybe he can change appearance at will, I just expect this to play with our expectations and end up being something terrifying because this is the same person who made the damn seraphim so there are about 50 different ways for this to take a turn from the sexy and cute to the scary
Didn't wanna say I called it but I CALLED IT!!!!. On the 1059 review video I commented about single line the egghead port mention at the chapter. Speculated whether it could be something regarding scientists and/or Vegapunk reveal. Lo and behold 2 chapters later
19:42 If she gets promoted to rear admiral I'm pretty sure her rear is going to get bigger. Also what happened to Caribou? Is he going to learn the secrets to devil fruit? This man's going to be a wealth of knowledge.
Vega punk kinda has the Amelia Earhart helmet and goggles. Theory on how she got lost in the Bermuda Triangle and transported through time or dimension.
Like the Gotei 13?
@@Dave102693 Yes, the divisions in Bleach are called (a number)tai(隊) in Japanese so the leaders of these divisions are taichou(隊長) literally squad head/leader. It’s also the exact term used for the divisions in Whitebeard’s crew. For example ace was the nibantai taichou(二番隊隊長).
@@Ackermin so it was a mistranslation, so the correct term for drake is commander

Based on all we know about Vegapunk, I'm gonna assume his personality quirk is that he makes miraculous inventions but thinks they're all failures.
Plus the old timey speech because you know, the man who's 500 years into the future speaks like a boomer from the past.
Past trends do tend to comeback in the future
That would explain why he called Momo's fruit a failure.
@@oliveragag8576 it was a failure because the dragon is pink as opposed to the azure seiryu.
I can see the Franky x Vegapunk fanarts, fanfics, and Lewds now.
Well, this version of vegapunk, destroyed one of its own inventions because it was going to chomp a ship so maybe they have common ground there? On the other hand, this vegapunk also wants to be able to salvage ships for parts and the shark already ate bonney's so maybe not lol
@@oliveragag8576 that would be kinda cute but Franky x Robin for life
Theory, the woman at the end of the chapter IS the Dr.
I’m gonna bet it’s a robot or whatever made by Vegapunk because he is too old to move around and so made hot androids he can control from his desk
I think the marine bases are named in order they were founded. The old g-1 was next to red line so it was founded first (after old marineford) and then as they founded more the number goes up.
I imagine the "G-#" is just the order in which they were established. Some being likely since the Void Century

Oh that is a good idea!
This chapter proves that the straw hats need jinbe. Jinbe is the GOAT. The interaction between jinbe and the others just works so well.
Jinbe is the ultimate situation to any time Chopper, Luffy, or Brook fall off the ship
Jinbe's super power "I make good life decision" - meme.
For real. The perfect late series addition for sure! We've gotten to know him slowly over time too which has made the journey with him and his character development so good!
I love that all Supernovas are like "Can´t believe the KNIGHT OF THE SEA is in your crew"
I love so much that escene when Robin and Jimbe walk to the Dining Hall in Onigashima. Jimbe gives some wise words about calmness being key to success and the first thing Robin comments felt like "Thank God we have a new brain in the team"
You know at first I thought Vegapunk being "Vegapunk 2" meant the 2nd generation, but then I remembered that Kuma is known as PX-0, meaning this Vegapunk is likely the 3rd generation(assuming she kept the same naming scheme)
Or Vegapunk is inhabiting new bodies.
Either one is possible.
Franky is gonna love this arc

It's gonna be...
SUUUUUPPPEEEEEEERRRRRR!!!

More like we will love Franky more this arc
Let us hope we get an answer soon, but there are so many possibilities.
To be fair, after escaping impel down and going marineford, I think Jinbe knew what he was signing up for. He even says as much when he drags Luffy, Buggy, and Ivankov out of the water for like the third time in the anime.
Well, maybe we overlooked something. There is possibility that Bonnie already met with Vegapunk and turn him/her young as part of the deal for making Kuma back, but before Vegapunk said her how to do it some shit hit the fan and Bonnie have to go back again.
Really like the idea that it was Sanji that talked to jimbe about saving the df users like a shared duty thing
"You need to save the df users. Luffy, Brook, Chopper."
"Ah,right. And there's Robin too"

No, the celestial dragon's branding is a burn. They tattooed over it to make the sun pirates sigil.

That is also a possibility.
Mmmm you’re right. I didn’t think of that. Could be his great great great daughter💀
That was a sunflower then it was sewn to look like a lion as a handy down, I am rewatching one piece and saw this
Blind Fujitora recognizes the blood scent and heartbeat of the true Vegapunk. He and Ryokugyu were referring to the scientist as "old man".
That’s a good theory, makes sense that Vegapunk could do that
9:10 Sanji was confirmed to be the best swimmer in the crew in Punk Hazard, and heaviliy hinted at ever since Arlong Park. Now with Jinbe, of course, that will change, but I wouldn't be surprise if Sanji was not far behind him, and probably over several "normal" fishmen (because we know Jinbe is broken even for a Fishman, he is the freaking "First Son of the Sea")
@Afilou lo korim be kolnoa That's what I said, can't you read?
Vegapunk.
My only issue with that is that the female character we see specifically said that the government likes to call her their scientific genius

I think the G bases are numbered based on proximity to Marineford. Hence why G-1 is on the other side of the Red Line from Marineford.
I think the lady we see at the end is Vegapunk’s daughter because it says 2 on here jacket which could mean the second Dr Vegapunk

And remember, Caribou heard luffy state his dream
Same idea.

I never expected Vegapunk to be like this. I'm sure I saw someone refer to him as 'Old Man' so I always thought he was an old man.

The Thousand Sunny has a lion head, however, when the boat was presented to us, the similarities to a sunflower and to the Sun were noted.
It’s both and neither at the same time
I sort of figured that all the Marine bases are named based on when they were built, so G1 being right at the Red Line would be the oldest, then the next few in Paradise, etc.
They gave Jinbe the title of Helmsman….but we know his job is resident Lifeguard
