- This time on @RestorationDIY I make a Bowl from Oak segmented rings cast in Black, Gold and Green Epoxy Resin, This is probably my Favourite so far the colour separation in the Epoxy Resin looks great set against the Oak, and the exposed resin in the base just adds to the overall look, Follow along from start to finish through every stage Subscribe if you haven't already a thumbs up will be much appreciated and comments are always welcome.

Simply stunning! The best yet, I think. The technique for increasing colour separation is interesting. This is an art which requires trial and error with careful choice of resin in my neck of the woods where the temperature is 34⁰ C by day and 25⁰C at night with 80% humidity. After a few disasters, I found peace with a 2:1 slow cure, deep cast epoxy (Luciclear, Australia). An industrial fan makes a big difference controlling the cure starting when frequent laser temperature checks reveal the exotherm generating temps are around 50⁰C. Cure time is still 24 hours at this time of year.

Thank you. I always try to show how it is for me. I totally agree. I've done a lot of trial & error, so much of it is about ambient temps and choosing the right time to pour.
I absolutely love this. Fantastic form and the colours contrast with oak, looks great. The black, gold and green are a great combination and definitely something I’m going to try. I’d love to try some segmented items but sadly lacking a drum sander, a very valuable tool. Thank you great video.
Hi many thanks. This is still one of my favourites 🙂. The drum sander certainly makes Segmented bowls easier to do, but In my earlier projects i flattened the Rings with a much cheaper 300mm disc sander. Good luck with your projects, and thanks for your comment 😀 👍

My friend takes the wood chips and mixed them with old candle wax and parafin to make fire starter cubes. They work well to get a fire going in the morning.

Nice Project......from your accent I am guessing you are not in the USA.......the reason I mention is that here in SE GA USA air conditioning is a prerequisite for life at 90-110 degrees in the summer with 90% plus humidity.....those cracks are Heat induced from the set reaction......I have a small room AC in my shop and when I pour a thicker (than 1") layer I either put the form in a Frig or direct the AC output on it 10 to 20 degrees will do the trick
Thank you, you are correct I'm in the UK, quite a few of my projects suffered from overheating cracks sadly I dont have AC but I do like the idea of putting the casting in a fridge, it's something I may try on an upcoming project, many Thanks for suggesting it 🙂🙂

very interesting color combination. i feel like you can achieve more unique color combos than most by letting your resin cure a bit so they don’t muddy too much. the result is beautiful, but it’s always a gamble letting that epoxy heat up. 😉
Thanks, its is a gamble it didn't come across very well in the video but i was very close to losing the gold resin 🙂
I found the gamble is reduced by knowing your resin for ambient temp and humidity, checking the temp frequently and if rising too fast at peak exotherm, an industrial fan starting at 50⁰ C makes all the difference. Its hot( 35⁰C) and humid here. I too have seen smoke!

What type of wax do you use to grease the vessel to help releasing the resin piece once cured?
Hi thank you for your question, mostly I use machine wax but any finishing wax I have to hand seems to work.
