- In this video, we do a muffler delete and install a 5" MBRB straight pipe exhaust. We also install a 80 H.P. tune from Same Day Tuning, using an EFI Live. The turbo sound has that whistlin sound now. It sounds so much better than stock exhaust. Can finally hear the turbo spool up.

That sure sounds happy now with that upgrade! That craftsman creeper is a classic! I've had one in my garage for years. One of the first things I got I think after the tool set from my late grandfather. You need a matching trailer now for your runs to Copart! You'll be sure in a few years when Tyler makes or misses his curfew on a Friday night!
I’ve had that creeper before Tyler was born. Lol. Definitely need a trailer and upgrade from the U-Haul. Lol.

Does the truck need to be deleted before I can straight pipe it from down pipe back? 2015 lml, will it throw any codes
@@Reillycrown you have to tune the ecm before you can straight pipe. You will have more power, better fuel mileage by far, and a more reliable truck. Need a lift pump for highest horsepower tunes though
Love it! I’m running a similar setup. 5” straight pipe, tuned, 6.6l resonator delete (billet capped, 1 1/2” rubber pipe plug from Home Depot works ok too), 8” axel dump tip. I’ll post a few video soon.

I have the same exact truck just did the same exhaust also. I'd recommend doing at lift pump I did an air dog 4g2 165 before the exhaust I felt a difference right away no dead pedal feel and alot more responsive. Will also help the CP4.

I hated putting the 5# on my lbz but I loved the sound and mileage+power I also did the downpipe at the same time and run a 150 tune plus plenty of supporting mods for fuel air and trans. If you ever have to remove those rubber hangers just spray them with wd40 or penetrating lubricant and they slide right off.
mine seems to get worse mileage on my tune 5
@@davidstigant4713 mine is normally around 23 in that tune but with all the power I don't have to press the accelerator more than quarter throttle and still pulling faster. There a couple of clients about 30 miles from my place and when I go out to do work on the cabins or whatnot I usually get in the 25s for mileage because it's a 60 mph zone the whole way and a straight shot with little hills so somehow I get around 2.5mpg less driving 70 over 65.

Also an exhaust tip 7+” gives it even more of a deeper tone and if you want it even louder than that look up “axle dump exhausts” it’s where people cut the exhaust after it goes over the rear axle so the sound bounces off the ground but personally that’s a little to loud for me 😂

We put it out a day early just for you.
I ran the 5 inch for about 6 months but changed back to the 4 inch. Towing 10,000 lbs cross country the 5 inch had too much drone. Couldnt hear the radio or have a conversation with passengers without yelling. The 4 inch with a straight through muffler sounds great with an oversize turbo.
Sounds great! Not exhaust related but how do you like those tires? I’m thinking about switching from the Nitto Ridge Grapplers to those Radar Renegades when it’s time to get new ones.
I like the tires a lot. They look aggressive but no loud road noise. Drives great.

I have a question is your truck still emissions complaint or is it fully deleted. I have a 2017 chevy silverado 2500 L5P that I want to change the exhaust on but everything I’m reading I have to change the ecm. Or can I do it with the EFI live? Thank you
Mine is deleted. Your year model it changed how it’s done. Go to samedaytuning.com and look on their site. It will tell you what you have to do.

What exactly did you get from same day tuning did you only get the single hp tune or did you have to get the autocal and efi live license,sounds so good and I’m new to the diesel trucks
I bought the single tune on the tuner device with a license for just my vin number.
Taking out the muffler and putting a straight pipe doesn’t throw any codes? It’s not fully deleted or anything? Still got the def system? So all you did was a straight pipe and a tune and everything runs fine? Sorry for all the questions I’m just really considering getting one and doing this. Sounds great thanks!
Yes. It just a straight pipe and tune. No cats and no def. You can leave def tank in place but not hooked up anymore.
Have you had any problems with the epa? I’ve been wanting to do this but that’s one of things keeping me from doing it.

So did you "block off" your EGR? If so what did you do with that extra pressure/exhaust??
Removing the cats and muffler frees up the exhaust pressure.
So did you just take the old exhaust off and put the new one or is there more you have to do to be able to straight pipe the L5P, I was told I’d you don’t do a few things before you will throw engine codes and your truck won’t even start, I own a 2018 Chevy 2500 hd
You have to have an off road tune to install the straight pipe exhaust. You are correct you will be in limp mode if you don’t have that because you will be removing the catalytic converter and the def system
@@SwampBoysGarage okay that sounds about right, did you have to flash your Ecm before putting this off-road tune on or did you buy a already flashed Ecm. Another way is to flash the stock Ecm and then put a tune on it. Did you guys go that route? is the proccess really this simple to delete a L5P because if so I’m missing out, I would love your help in pointing me in the right direction for all this, maybe a email about all of this or something? That would help out alot because I run a painting buissness and this DPF filter is just really hurting my truck, I would greatly appreciate the help!!

I have a 19 L5P, correct me if I'm wrong but deleting and tuning is a pain in the ass due to the new encryption that GM is using. I'm not sure about the older L5P models but i know GM started using beefed up encryption on the 19s and newer. Any insight into that?

The piece that attach to the manifold has any type of gasket? The one with the 3 bolts.. is there anything?
No I don’t think there is a gasket if I remember correctly
What exhaust did you go with? Mbrp? Did you get trans tuning? Upgrade ecm for tuning? Or is it all stock aside from the lift
Mbrb 5” exhaust. Have off-road tune. Not trans tune too.

Does cutting the old system off create check engine lights?. Or does the programmer take care of everything? I have a 3500 I'm new to this and want to try it?
If you remove the catalytic converter you’ll get a check engine light and go into limp mode. You gotta have an off-road tune to make it work.
Did that can slide right out after cutting it off or does that truck have a body lift or something in it?
It slid out ok. No body lift on truck. Just a suspension lift
So do you still have the DEF tank etc installed? What exhaust kit is this?
You can leave the def tank in place if you want but remove the injection hose to the exhaust since you don’t need it.

Tip for those rubber exhaust hangers, spray WD40 on the hangers, and slide it off.

You installed the tune first then removed and re installed the exhaust. Do you have to do it in that order or does it matter what you do first vs second?
If you remove cats and def system first it will put truck in limp mode.

I’m looking at a lifted 2016 Denali duramax that’s been deleted and tuned already. Drove very nice. 91k miles and they want $54k for it. Does that sound high? And how reliable has yours been? What kind of mileage do you have on yours?
Truck prices are absolutely crazy. I love mine. It’s been very reliable. Not one issue yet. As for mileage, being it’s 37” tires hurts a lot. I get 16 mpg.
@@SwampBoysGarage how many miles do you have? I get 13 mpg in my Silverado with 35s lol so I could deal with 16 🤣
Mine is very low mileage. I think I just hit 40,000.
@@SwampBoysGarage awesome! I’ve read from people having the cp4 blow up in 30k miles and I’ve heard of people having them for 300k miles without a failure lol but that’s the main thing that scares me. But with anything I feel like it’s all in how you drive it and maintain it.
Add a K&N air filter, you’ll get a better sound and all around better

@@SwampBoysGarage insane high. really need it for towing equipment at work. 17 z71 with 120mi for 53k out the door and definitely plan on doing some of these upgrades.

I only went with the 50hp tune for better fuel economy and to delete emissions

Yes it was a good tune for what I needed. They won’t respond to any messages. I’ve tried numerous times to ask some questions and they just ignore me so I don’t like that.

It came with the tune from the tuner.
Is this a L5P engine? Did u just do the tune and changed the exhaust? No codes or anything after u changed ur exhaust?
No this is the LML engine. No codes yet. The L5P you have to swap the computer module. Little more work for that engine.
New diesel owner here. I live on the West coast west 😜. If we’re to tune my truck do I absolutely need to remove egr? I kinda need my truck to pass certain test every 2 years. Thanks
You can do a street legal tune. You don’t have to do an off road tune that requires you to remove the catalytic converters and def system. I’m not sure what all they inspect there but to answer the egr question, you can do an off road tune and leave the egr in place. You just put blocker plates in front of it.

The company doesn’t matter. Just need straight pipe no muffler or catalytic converter. Have to have an off road tune though.

@@IDIRIEIMIMIEIL blocker plates is not a good way to delete the egr. It forces too much pressure in other areas and will have boost leaks. Very hard to get it all aligned with the plates in place too. It’s a cheap easy way to delete but not a proper way.
Around how long did swapping the exhaust take you?
Just the exhaust was a couple hours. Maybe 3 hours.

I just purchased a 22 Denali and looking for that same sound. Will the tune void any warranty I have ? And where can I purchase the exhaust?
Yes it will void the warranty because you have to flash the ecm with an off-road tune.
Is the tune necessary to get that specific sound with that exhaust with the turbo whistle ? I’m sure the exhaust can’t void anything
@@gregwright6734 you have to get the tune because you would have to remove the catalytic converter. You can’t get that sound with a catalytic converter on the truck.

This is a 2016 LML. Your process will be different but can be done

Never worked on newer Duramax's but done lots of transmissions on LBZ's. One thing I always hated about Chevy's was the exhaust placement. The kit you bought is it assembled with clamps or did you have to weld it?
It was all with clamps. No welding.

For years people complained about the noise a diesel made ,so truck companies quieted down the rattle the engines made .Now people want them loud again with black smoke blowing out the pipe on takeoff with the turbo whining like a jet airplane .Sounds kinda bass ackwards to me if ya know what I mean . Anyway you'll get less back pressure with that five inch exhaust for sure.Nice job well done .

I ordered mine thru same day tuning. When I bought the tune I added the exhaust to my cart and it was the MBRB brand. But you can’t have the straight pipe without the tune.

2016 with a 6.5” BDS lift on 37x12.5x20’s
@@SwampBoysGarage thank you sir thinking of doing the same how’s your ride after a while … got a 21 model and been thinking on 37’s but I don’t know I was thinking on the BDS kit also I know they look good but leaning towards 35’s
It drives great. You’ll have to trim a little fender liner with 37’s. I have a how to install video and one on trimming the liner.
@@SwampBoysGarage ok … you know you can run well I don’t know about yours but on this 1 I can run 37’s no lift turn the keys up with 1 inch spacers in front because it will scrub the inner frame but I’ve never ran spacers always herd bad stuff bout them growing up I would love to but more I think it’s my wife’s truck and she wants a lift but I believe it will be a little tuff for her getting in and out of it because she got back issue that’s the only thing really holding me back from doing the 37’s with a 4 inch lift but I just know what it will look like when it’s done lol

That’s exactly what I did. I bought a single tune at same day tune and bought the exhaust off their website. I don’t remember the cost. I’m sure it’s higher now.

The tune I loaded cancels the def. Then I just removed it after I removed the catalytic converter
