That Rob Cosman dovetail saw would be perfect this Christmas. I'll tell Santa.
Hopefully you’ve been a good boy Ben!
It's a really, really solid saw.
I also REALLY love my Veritas dovetail saw too. You'll be very happy with either one!

Solid suggestions Gary. I made a list of 3 items for my wife my shop gifts😊. Keep up the good content
If you were a good boy then hopefully Santa will be kind to you Christmas morning! Thanks for watching Patrick!
Thanks, Gary. You actually reminded me of a couple things I could use!
What are you hoping Santa brings you this year Scotty?
Nice suggestions, Gary! Really enjoyed the video!
Thanks Kevin! I hope Santa treats you well this year!
Great job sir! Completely agree with all recommendations!
One quick comment, i own a Sawstop. As far as i know, the only thing about blades with Sawstop is that they say you shouldn't use a thin kerf blade - as the brake mechanism may not work correctly.
Now, full disclosure, i do own 1 thin kerf ripping blade and i do use it on occasion. (It's not my regular ripper but once in a while it makes sense to use it) so it's not that you CAN'T use one, but they say you SHOULDN'T.
Hello from Vancouver Island 🌴🇨🇦👍
Hey Troy, thanks for watching. I appreciate your viewership. It amazes me to learn how far away people are watching my videos from!
Nice Suggestions!! Thanks Gary!
Well done!
Merry Christmas!
Thanks Dave! I hope Santa is good to you!
Lots of great recommendations on tool gifts for the woodworking enthusiast. Too bad all of my family members are tone deaf when I mention tools. I just purchased a Katz-Moses KM-17 PRO router plane and its blade set to fill that gap. I hope to receive it fairly soon along with a few other tools that I have purchased. Some of these tools are so beautiful in my eyes that I want to kick off all of my wife’s knickknacks off the fireplace mantel and use that for wood plane storage. 🤣🤣🤣
I am speechless!
I sure wouldnt mind if Santa dropped that Lie Nielsen 5-1/2 in my stocking!
I love it. It’s a great plane. You have less than 2 weeks to be a good boy Frank! Better start being nice! I hope for your sake it’s not too late! Merry Christmas bud!
What, no beard? How do you even cut wood? Seriously, nice tool suggestions. I already have that model dust mask, and it works really well. Some of the others, I'll have to check out. Nice workbench, by the way.
Hey Ted, ya I should see if growing a beard does anything to increase my credibility and increase subs! Haha! Thanks for the workbench compliment! I appreciate your viewership!
Don’t tell my wife to go in my shop!!! Lol
Haha. Sorry bud. Just trying to help a guy out! Keep making sawdust!
LOL This crossed my mind every time he invited my wife into my shop!
Haha!
Was thinking the same thing haha even told her to open my drawers
@ponyboyc 😂
I would suggest No. 5 handplane instead of 5 1/2. And Bailey type, not Bedrock. Less weight, less effort is required, much easier to work with. 5 1/2 is for giants. Do not believe people who earn money by creating TH-cam videos.
Hey @turboqzma.... thanks for commenting. Woodworkers will debate this long after you and I are gone. Here is my take on it and why I respectfully disagree with you.
1. I have only been monetized a few months on TH-cam and as of this morning I have made a grand total of $153.45 (so I'm not "making money" on TH-cam). I am not sponsored by anyone or by any company. Everything I own I have bought myself. I have 17 years experience doing woodworking. Many of those years I struggled until I learned from my mistakes or general lack of knowledge.
2. I will stand behind recommending a #5 ½ over a #5 for several reasons. I am not even close to being a giant. I am 5' 7" and only 148 lbs. There was a time when I had a difficulty using a #4 but that was because I did not know how to sharpen the blade adequately. Once I learned how to sharpen the blade, it was effortless to push even a #7 through hard maple with only one hand on the plane. The additional mass and inertia of a 5 ½ really helps to propel the plane through the cut so you don't get fatigued quickly.
3. The 4 ½, 5 ½, 6, 7 and 8 all have blades that are 2 ⅜" wide so they are interchangeable. When a blade becomes dull, I simply grab another one. When it's time to sharpen, I do more than one at a time. I find it more efficient and I seem to get a more "repeatable" edge this way.
4. I personally prefer the Bedrock design over the Bailey because it is so easy to close/open the mouth WITHOUT having to remove the blade from the plane. It's so fast and convenient. Its such a waste of time adjusting the mouth on a Bailey plane because not only do you have to reset the blade parallel to the sole, you have to adjust the projection of the blade all over again too. Furthermore, if you close the mouth too far so the blade won't even come out then you have to remove the blade (again) and try it again. Its a huge waste to time that I simply can't be bothered with anymore.
I also have and strongly prefer the Lie Nielsen 5 1/2. It's my go-to for just about everything. Phenomenal plane.
Nice job responding to this comment. You were much nicer than i would've been!
