Thank you for these! Receptive drills and fingerspelling in general are the things I have the most trouble with. Huge help!!!

I'm just learning but I found your signing and signing speed some of the best on TH-cam. The names I got were, Lily, Fred, Sam, Amy, Lada(?) Jose, Francis, Paul, Emily, Joshua, William.

Thank you for your video! I was having a hard time with the letters "a" "e" "i" "m" and "n" by the way I have seen the various ways these letters are signed and shown in books. I'm a visual learner but reading ASL from the book is very different than when it is actually signed. I have to see the actual motions in order to understand. Your videos and facial expressions have helped me a lot. Please continue your uploads. ^_^

Love all your videos! Here's a question for you.... I got a DVD by Byron Bridges called Native Fingerspelling... He shows how natives often use (when possible) a 3 finger configuration. He says its more fluid, etc.... but at the end of the DVD he seems to say that only native Deaf should use it. That if others (me being hoh, not Deaf) use it, we would offend. If you have a little time... Do you have any thoughts on that? Thanks so much!

I get the names when you do it slow, but don't catch up when it's fast. Well, maybe more practice will help me with that.

The challenge is really, really, really hard because it's fast and there's no context to help you guess the missing letters. After watching it something like 10 times I got: Ryad, Esmeralda, Olivia, Marriott and Shakespeare, but I am not even sure I am right.

Almost. You got most of the letters, but two of the names are wrong. They are: Richard, Esmeralda, Olivia, Margaret, Shakespeare
P.S. I'm deaf and fluent at ASL

Lily, Fred, Sam, Amy, Laura, Jose, Francis, John, Paul, Joshua, and William. 2nd Level for the people who desire more of a challenge, first name escaped me the fingerspelling is hard to read I thought Richard for a second but there is no configuration towards H or A or any vowels really. Then proceeded to be the names, Esmeralda, Olivia, Margaret, and Shakespeare. I would love some clarification on the first challenge name.

thanks for the videos, just to let you know, for number 4 you first spelled A-B-Y ( i went back to see it again) not A-M-Y as you did in slow motion.
edit: nevermind you just did an M that looked more like a B then an M.

In ASL, both M and N have two forms each. You saw the two forms of M. Both forms of M she used are correct.

When you finger spell do your fingers crack this is mine sure does

You mouth the names as you fingerspell them, it kind of defeats most of the purpose. Hopefully this has changed in the last 8 years as I realize this is a rather old video.

It seems that most deaf people do mouth the name (as it would be said, not the letters) while fingerspelling it, which is helpful under many circumstances. See e.g. www.lifeprint.com/asl101/fingerspelling/fingerspelling.htm - "Understands principles and circumstances related to phonetically correct mouth movements while fingerspelling (correct mouthing as if saying the word--rather than mouthing individual letters)"
      Is your experience different?
