Charizard's attack says discard 2 energy cards, so if you discard double colorless still need to discard one more energy card.

Yes, we realized that after we played the match. We were used to the newer attacks just saying discard that much energy.

Great game! Feeling nostalgic! Love to see the Hitmonchan! It's one of my favorites!

Unfortunately the problem with Charizard's Attack makes it so it requires 2 energy cards, not 2 energy. I know you already answered another comment mentioning this, but a dce drop wouldn't have satisfied the cost. You would need 2 attachments. The only way to make the deck consistently attack every turn is to pair it with rain dance blastoise. But setting up 2 stage 2s against decks like haymaker made it basically unviable. electrode is good, but the cost is to heavy to consistently loses prizes due to your pokemon's own ability. It's more of an emergency use case.

I like to run my charizard deck with charmeleon. I also like to use magmar and kangaskahn for support. it does pretty well, I even managed to win against freezing rain a couple of times.

Best way to build charizard in base-fossil imo is use Charizard in a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2 line so u can use Charmeleon as a back up attacker if needed, he works well with DCE, alongside fossil’s Magmar and jungle’s lickitung, some of the best stall pokemon in the game and they fit the color scheme. (Licktung just straight up bodies mewtwo or mr mime and Magmar and Charmeleon deal well with Scyther) Full playset of switch, full playset of Energy retrieval, Item retrieval to get your Energy retrievals back, couple of pokemon centers, oaks, bills, Energy removal and Comp search, trader and double colorless energy. No pokemon breeder as Charizard is pretty useless early game anyway. Fill the rest in with trainer staples and you actually have a deck that can compete.

      I’d play something like this
      Charmander 4
      Charmeleon 3
      Charizard 2
      Lickitung 4
      Magmar 2
      Fire energy 16
      Double colorless 3
      Oak 3
      Bill 4
      Energy retrieval 4
      switch 4
      Item finder 2
      Pokemon trader 2
      Pokemon Center 2
      Computer Search 2
      Energy Removal 3

I have a very similar build to this but I run charizard 4-3-3 with 3 magmar and 3 kangaskahn for energy acceleration. I use potion instead of pkmn center.

Cherizard is a great pokemon. You could better team it up to Venusaur, Scyther, and Likytong.

Haymaker isn’t the best retro deck honestly. It can easily be countered by budget decks

    • @rjbourgeois5490
      @rjbourgeois5490 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Most consistent when playing against a variety of decks in a tournament setting. There were many good retro decks, but overall it was the most effecient. Most decks couldn't keep up with the constant energy removal. Haymaker could due to it's low attack costs.

@@rjbourgeois5490 that’s very true! Every retro deck ran 4 copies of Emergy Removal, and later on super energy removal, bc of easy use and most importantly disruption. Every deck had to have some form of disruption or paralysis bc it would stall out opponents strategies.
