This is indicative of Batman’s character, whereas Bruce Wayne is Batman’s mask. Opposed to what we usually see from superheroes in which it’s the opposite. This is incredible acting on the account of Bale and it’s amazing to watch. It’s a great commentary of Bruce’s psyche, as to how he views himself and by an extension his two identities. As the change is immediate, which suggest Bruce’s mentality trumps his humanity. As “Batman” will automatically, almost unwillingly take over Bruce, once he’s doing anything remotely related to it. Really great stuff.
@@lukas9990 You said no to Christian Bale being the best Batman which I someone agree but Ben Affleck isn't the best either. Not sure who you personally think is the best Batman but IF you think Ben is the best the answer is ALSO ( as you put) Nope. Ben was decent in BVS. Sucked in JL.
Remember, you only get 1 life so make it count. Live, love and laugh; to the fullest. When action is required, just do it. No matter what anyone says, it is your life. You live for yourself. So unless you’re a puppet you cannot be controlled or manipulated in any way. You were given a voice, use it. Stand up for yourself and your neighbor. No matter the cost because at the end of the day, “it’s what you do that defines you.”
Xman The legendary something yes underrated. Absolutely. You’ll be amazed with how many people here in this town completely crap over Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
I know it's just a movie but when Bruce sees Rachel for the first time and looks at her face while she's talking you can tell he was so smitten by her. His smile was so big and bright. It's a shame they couldn't be together.
I just realized scarecrow helped solidify the legend of the bat. Without this incident batman really is a guy in a suit. However this crazy hallucentated version of him probably traumatized and etched the batman into Gotham criminals and civilians alike.
This is why Christian Bale is my favorite live action Batman. His Batman and Bruce Wayne feel like two different characters entirely. He really sells the dual identity of the character.
Her last scene with Bruce bascially amounted to her telling him to commit suicide by engaging Falcone. *7 years later and worldwide belief that he was dead until a few days ago.* Rachel sees Bruce. No hug. No glad you're ok. Just speechifying. That isn't Katie Holmes' fault.
Comrade Snake Infinity War is comparable to this. But the Dark Knight trilogy is something that will never be replicated, and I say that as a Marvel fan.
Interesting choice to give Batman a "Mary Jane". All these years later I'm still not sure it was a good one. But Nolan certainly makes it work. That guy can make anything work
There are people who can reduce and melt away any notion of a front, walls and facade. People that make you feel vulnerable or back to that little child they once knew you as. You’d hate to look wrong in front of them, you’d hate to disappoint or hurt them. You can see a struggle in him. This isn’t who I am.
You can see how hurt Bruce is to lie to Rachel as he wants to tell her but ultimately he has to sacrifice having a normal life and the things he wants in order to save Gotham! Christopher Nolan really understood how to write Bruce and Batman better than anyone else, and I don’t think anyone will ever top it either, it’s why the dark knight trilogy is the best ever!
Bruce feeling so helpless when he tries to explain, but gets schooled. One of the most vulnerable moments of Bruce. The other one is when Alfred tries to convince Bruce going against Bane and speaks about the letter Rachel wrote, that she chose Harvey. Some things never get fixed, they remain broken.
This movie, the conflict beetwen his real identity and the way he seeks redemption from his own fears - either through Rachel or batman - is SO beautiful
These two scenes brilliantly showcase how key the duality is to Batman. The delineation between the two personas is what motivated both of them to pursue their goals. Bale is the best live-action Bat for a reason, and this reason is right here.
You can see him switch from his fake public playboy personality to his true personality when talking to Rachael. Love this

Rewatching this scene, it's fascinating to see how well they capture Bruce Wayne's mindset.
Inside, I am Batman. "Bruce Wayne" is the facade
The way his facial expression changes when he turns at 0:08 - good acting

Christian Bale is honestly one of my favorite actors
It looks like CG. no?
Best Batman ever
Nope
@@lukas9990 Yeah well it ain't Ben either homeslice.
@@j.t.thomas1859 So? who said something about Ben?
@@lukas9990 You said no to Christian Bale being the best Batman which I someone agree but Ben Affleck isn't the best either. Not sure who you personally think is the best Batman but IF you think Ben is the best the answer is ALSO ( as you put) Nope. Ben was decent in BVS. Sucked in JL.
@@j.t.thomas1859 that I can only agree with
Remember, you only get 1 life so make it count.
The moment she says "Bruce?", he jumps like "Oh shit, I'm outta here"
One of the most underrated movies ever
Underrated??
Xman The legendary something yes underrated. Absolutely. You’ll be amazed with how many people here in this town completely crap over Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
Brian Stallings ha never seen or heard one person say anything bad about it
Yeah this movie is underrated while movies like Captain Marvel made 1 billion. Screw Marvel

KING JOFFREY
KING OF THE ANDALS AND THE FIRST MEN
LORD OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS
AND PROTECTOR OF THE REALM
coregasmo died at his own wedding
BASTARDDDDD!!!!!!
Oh my god.. You are right.. Did not noticed till now.
me too..just notice it
What is this
That end scene still give me chills when he says and jumps and leaves the girl shocked and fly in style and the boss music starts playing.
this is so iconic yet relatable. it gives chills everytime
Every time I watch this scene it still give me chills
Goosebumps guaranteed when Bruce reveals himself 🙌
I know it's just a movie but when Bruce sees Rachel for the first time and looks at her face while she's talking you can tell he was so smitten by her. His smile was so big and bright. It's a shame they couldn't be together.
Jaleesa Trevelyan that smile at 0:31
I just realized scarecrow helped solidify the legend of the bat. Without this incident batman really is a guy in a suit. However this crazy hallucentated version of him probably traumatized and etched the batman into Gotham criminals and civilians alike.
Best batman till date.
This is why Christian Bale is my favorite live action Batman. His Batman and Bruce Wayne feel like two different characters entirely. He really sells the dual identity of the character.
Her last scene with Bruce bascially amounted to her telling him to commit suicide by engaging Falcone.
*7 years later and worldwide belief that he was dead until a few days ago.*
Rachel sees Bruce. No hug. No glad you're ok.
Just speechifying.
That isn't Katie Holmes' fault.
I hated her character so much. She didn’t know Bruce at all. Killing her off is what truly made the movies great.
MARVEL AIN'T GOT SHIT ON THIS!
Comrade Snake Dark knight trilogy > MCU > DCEU
Yea...yea it does. Dark Knight might be the greatest movie ever but when you put the whole packages together mcu is way ahead.
Kisu Bags While your point could be valid, I would like you to read my first comment again.
Comrade Snake Infinity War is comparable to this. But the Dark Knight trilogy is something that will never be replicated, and I say that as a Marvel fan.
Spider man 2 is up there
Geoffrey: It’s not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me.
"It's not the beef patty underneath, but it's the melted cheese that defines me."
- Cheeseburger
"It's what I do that defines me"
- love the quote
Interesting choice to give Batman a "Mary Jane". All these years later I'm still not sure it was a good one.
But Nolan certainly makes it work. That guy can make anything work
there was a rachel in tas
Vicki Vale was kind of Batman's ''Mary Jane'' in the 1989 Batman movie, too.
Christian Bale is Batman, Batman is Christian Bale
It's not who you are underneath but what you do defines you
Emotions.
Such wonderful depictions in his films. Absolutely marvellous Christopher Nolan.
This is classic. No one did it better, Nolan made it simple and brilliant
I can watch this movie any number of times! They stopped making movies this good!
The chills when he repeats her line 😖
Its positively comical they went from this Rachel to the unfortunate looking Rachel in the second movie.
There are people who can reduce and melt away any notion of a front, walls and facade. People that make you feel vulnerable or back to that little child they once knew you as. You’d hate to look wrong in front of them, you’d hate to disappoint or hurt them. You can see a struggle in him. This isn’t who I am.
Racheal is a true example that u can't win them all as a man: women r just so hard to please,........but we still love them
If they're easy to please, then they're, well, easy.
Man this movie never gets old.every dialogue is
Batman : Rachel All of THIS, NOT ME. INSIDE I'M MORE
BATEMAN : BUT INSIDE DOESN’T MATTER 🗿
I love her voice and her acting and his acting. Truly the best batman movie, better than the new ones. Twenty times better with the story and imagery
Katie holmes and bale was such a nice couple.....i still adore this scene
Rachel: “ Bruce! What are you doing here ?”
Bruce : “Argh nothing much, just buying this hotel” ❤️❤️❤️
Such a fantastic actor and movie
This movie, the conflict beetwen his real identity and the way he seeks redemption from his own fears - either through Rachel or batman - is SO beautiful
the entire city just had a bad trip on acid basically
ioan jenkins pretty much lol
I always laughed so hard at how heroic this scene was then he flies down and scares the shit out of the citizens lmao
Am i the only one who thinks that Chistian has mouth like vampire?
Well he is the Batman
BECAUSE HE'S BATMAN!
Always noticed this, yet everyone told me I’m crazy. Thank you for noticing!!!

I mean he has very kissable lips.
These two scenes brilliantly showcase how key the duality is to Batman. The delineation between the two personas is what motivated both of them to pursue their goals. Bale is the best live-action Bat for a reason, and this reason is right here.
Deep down you may still be the great kid you used to be absolutely kills me as a 40 year old 😢
Both scenes, one begins and the other ends the same. "Bruce...?"
