Twinkle was best friends with my cat, I still have photos of the two of them cuddling. We had two kittens and a goat grow up with her and learned to respect her even when they became bigger than her, she’d ride around on the goat’s back, it was so cute.
She was a free bird, she’d sleep in trees or on the roof of our car, we could never keeps her in the pen we had, she’d always find a way to escape.
She also used to love riding on my shoulders and I’d take her into town with me on walks.
    I miss her every day.

Keeping a bird like this alone is animal abuse. In my country it's even illegal by law for that reason. So if that guy doesn't have good reasons for keeping the bird alone (like aggression against other birds or health issues), he'd do something that's illegal and forbidden and immoral to my countries standards.

I walked into a rescue place that had a store attached to it that helped raise money for the rescue. They had dogs, cats and birds. Anyway, I went in to buy Christmas gifts for my dogs and they had several birds sitting out in the shop on stands. I’d never looked twice at birds before but I came face to face with a 9 month old umbrella cockatoo. We kind of looked at each other for a minute then I reached out to give him a scratch and he leaped onto my arm. We had another staring moment and then he buried his head under my chin and lay flat on my chest. I tried to put him on his perch but he wouldn’t go. The shop keeper said normally he didn’t let anyone near him. It was weird this instant connection we had. The next thing I knew I was walking out of the shop with a cockatoo, all the required accoutrements and several books on cockatoos, their personalities and the care they required. That was 27 years ago and we still adore each other. I never did pick up anything for my dogs that day either. I have also rescued several other cockatoos as well since then. They are amazing birds.

Love seeing videos of people with birds! It’s a lifelong commitment. A lot of people don’t understand how long these birds live for. If in a healthy environment they can live 60 years no problem. It’s a big commitment due not only to the length of time but the amount of social interaction that the birds require. In the wild the live in fairly large, communal gatherings. They have social interactions much the same as humans. My grandfather had African grey until time he died. He spent a lot of the last 2 years of his life finding a suitable home for Shakespeare… the parrot.

Yep very very true all my fur babies adopted me not the other way around😹😹😹
I have wild cockatoos who come around everyday yelling out hello the are the ones who learned to say this because everyday when out in the yard I would call or hello are you hungry today after a month of this to and fro they now hello out “HELLO” at the top of their very small lungs and when you have half a dozen of them doing this you know there us no seed in the bird feeder😹😹😹😹😹 I have cats who just sit and watch them, they all know not to go near them because of their beak’s are deadly tools
I also have blue tongue lizards who call in every day during the warmer days and they eat the cat food again the cats leave them well alone my oldest cat learned that lesson the hard way and he’s just taught all of the others when they move in 😹😹😹
Living in the Aussie Outback gives me so much joy because of the very wildlife out here.

Every time I go to my parents I still expect Bobby to be there in the kitchen greating me, even though it's a decade since he died. He was 14years old. I live about 300km away from my parents and we try to visit every 2 months. My Bobby died in my hands, he was ill before, this time he didn't recovered. He waited until I came home to say good bye. I had two days with him, where he almost was his old self.

Yes, many years ago my friend's father passed away and my friend inherited his cockatoo, Rocky. His father got Rocky in 1958 and he is still going strong. These really are life long companions so please take this into consideration before making the commitment. Rocky was very lucky my friend loves him just as much as his father did, but unfortunately the sad truth is many are abandoned after their owners pass away.

Oldest Cockatoo on record was a Major Mitchel's (also known as a Leadbeater) Cockatoo named Cookie that lived at the Brooklyn Zoo to at least the age of 83 - that's how long he lived at the Zoo, it's possible he was even older.
Winston Churchill's old Blue and Gold Macaw is also alive and kicking at the ripe old (estimated) age of 114, and she's infamous for having picked up quite a few of Churchill's private rants during WWII.

I have an African grey that was orphaned when his previous owner died of cancer. He's kind of a failed rescue in that 2 attempted placements failed b/c he's unpredictably aggressive (bit thru my septum right after I got him) but we've been together 8 years now so we have things figured out. He's not a companion bird but he's part of the family anyway, just in his own way.

My Sister had a Cockatoo and he was just in love with me. I lived across the street from her and the second he would see me outside he would start screaming out the window. She would call me and ask to come over to say hello because he wouldn't stop yelling. When I would walk in he would make his way and open his door and tell me to " Come here", he would then climb on my arm and start asking " How are you?" he would say things like... "Whatcha do'in....Do you love milk( His name was Milk), he would tell me he loved me, whistle at me, just the most loving bird ever. well, I had to move and he became depressed, he began rocking while looking out the window so she had to move his spot. He would call my name over and over so she would replay a voice recording I left her on her voicemail so he could hear me calling his name. That sweet bird got a toenail infection that gave him a hard time on the stoop. During the operation, he passed. Such a loving bird, I do understand the affection he has for this Bird, I loved Milk too!

I know someone who adopted this type of bird from a shelter and he was in terrible shape he’s slowly recovering but the first few months after I found out she had him I was judging her for his condition, then she explained why he was like that and how she hadn’t had him for vary long . 2 years I think and she told me they are like a 2 -3 year old child you wouldn’t expect a child to recover from extreme trauma in only 2 years,
it really hit me then why so many rescue birds I saw were still pulling feathers even though they were in a good home it takes time for them to mentally heal. I think this bird probably had a good home that realized they couldn’t give him what he needed before he was traumatized otherwise he wouldn’t have bond with his person so quickly.
