You can imagine that fire roaring away, it could tell some stories.

It looked like it would have been cozy once, that’s for sure

Nice departure from the usual castle. Incredible amount of work went into building that farmhouse! I grew up on a farm and I'll tell you, our barn didn't have a stone vaulted arch!

Maybe it was a local technique they were proud of? Apparently, there were a few of them in the area. Oh for a time machine!

I like the smaller structures. They have character and you can really get to examine every inch of them.

And you usually have them to yourself, which is also really nice :)

I love how Ian gets all carried away here! Great enthusiasm. a few farmhouses I used to know in the Yorkshire Dales were originally monasteries seized during the reformation and became farmhouses. Or the foundation for later farm buildings. I wonder if there's any chance of a monastery connection here. It's a sophisticated bit of work, anyway.

Thank you 😊 It was interesting to be able to look around something like that.
Hmm, not sure. It’s possible that there was a religious connection, but we don’t think it’s likely in this case.
Interesting to know nonetheless, thanks for sharing!

I love profane Medieval buildings, and it's wonderful when something like this hasn't been torn down a long time ago. Northern Germany where I come from has sadly precious little Medieval architecture left, one reason being the lack of stone structures I'd think. It would be intriguing to see some educated person draw a reconstruction of the house, what it likely would have looked like.

I’m sure there must be a reconstruction somewhere, the Internet is full of surprises.
Even though this is stone built apparently it’s rare to see them survive the ages intact, even though they are built so well.

This farmer must have been very wealthy to build a stone house in the 14th century.

We don’t know who built it, or even when. It’s reckoned it was built some time in the 15th century, which is pretty vague.

How did you manage to find this building ???

It was on the list of Cadw properties, so we decided to check it out whilst we were having a look at other places nearby
