I grew up in this village in the 1960’s. My father was a Coastguard here. It is my number 1 place in the world and in stormy weather there is no place like it … sitting on the boulders watching the enormous waves crashing in. It is wild. I live in York now but still visit when I can. St Govan’s is always my first port of call. Glad you loved it too.

Its amazing how they built such a beautiful chapel, and after all these years of our blustery weather and the seas, the chapel still remains. I love how Sherpa agreed with you about him being the best you had seen. You're a handsome boy Sherpa. Thank you Jamie for sharing these videos with us. ♥️♥️

Ooh! My mum just told me she's visited & been inside! It really was built as a chapel, primarily for the coastal workers, such as fishermen & sailors. And, of course, the odd pirate/smuggler. Weddings in the fishing community were held there too. She also said there's some rare orchards on the cliffs that you can't walk through because they're a protected species of plant.

That is good additional information and great to know that it has been used since it was built

It was a hermit’s cell, or rather St Govan , the monk , lived in a cave on the site in the Sixth Century , the majority of the current building being erected in the 13th century .He MAY be buried under the altar. Local legend says if one counts the steps going down and back up , they won’t be the same .
To get to it the road passes through an MOD firing range and is sometimes closed.

It was built in the 13th century. Supposedly his handprints are in the floor of the chapel. It was a good lookout for pirates. A bell would be rung but the pirates stole it. The angels stole the bell from the pirates and put it in a rock - Bell Rock.

That view was even more amazing once the sun really brightened. But, yes. Sherpa was the most beautiful thing there. 😊🐕💗💗💗 Oh! And that chapel and the whole area looks like something straight out of Harry Potter! 💕

I agree, the chapel and big bits of rock washed apart, and the part that trembled when the waves hit, and the broad beautiful views were indeed stunning. But the best part by far of any views you've had so far, has always been and will always be, dear sweet Sherpie.

I had my heart in my throat for the whole time Sherpa was just wandering around the cliff tops.

This will be a very niche reference, but did anyone else feel like Jamie was in first-person POV playing Skyrim as he was making his way down the slope to the chapel…? (That serves as both a testament to how incredible the graphics are for that game as well as the beauty and scenery he and Sherpa get to show us each week. 🐶👍🏻)

Amazing and beautifully mysterious - kept wondering how that chapel was crafted in such a precarious place! Those very steep steps down into it worried me for both yours and Sherpa’s safety! But those amazing cliffs and breakaway bits were truly causing me vertigo overload. Too many butterflies in the tummy! Wales is fascinating in its rugged beauty. Thank you once again, Jamie and Sherpa for an awesome excursion! 🌊🪨💙🐾🐾🐾🥾🥾🌊💙

That is one amazing place. It sure is a mystery of why it would have been built there. Just gorgeous. But I agree Sherpa is the winner. He is the most gorgeous. Love him. Thanks for sharing Jamie. Love these videos. Have a great evening. 👍🏻🥰😍❤️🤗

Gorgeous coastline, looks better in the background with Sherpa's cute profile in frame😊
The ocean is a powerful force. Good thing Sherpa was quiet, his howl might start a rock slide.😁
Wonder if the chapel was always a chapel, and not a way station, or look out. Interesting location for it though.

You are correct though,,and the fact that building has survived,,regardless of what it was intended for. That coastline is gorgeous. There are places on earth,,handmade and natural,,,you just have to sit and stare. For me ,,it was the Taj Mahal and the nearby Teton mountain range,,just south of Yellowstone park. I have spent probably weeks worth of time staring at Le Tou Tetons,,literally the three teats. The mountain men that named them were horny old buggers. I lived just outside Teton park for several years,,and I never came close to being tired of looking. Would be brilliant,,as you say,,if you could bring the van and Sherpa for an explore !

I just kept saying "WOW!", pretty much the whole way through.. I love that chapel! My thought was it was possibly used to bless the sailors before leaving or for memorial services for those lost at sea.. soooooo beautiful! Love, BIG HUGS and greetings from Pennsylvania, U.S.A. 😊💗💗💗🐾🐾🐾🥰🥰🥰

Hi Jamie and Sherpa. One of my favourite places to visit when in Tenby. If you are ever in north wales please visit The Holy Well and Chapel of St Trillo, Rhos on sea. It only holds 6 people inside.

    • @martinhughes2549
      @martinhughes2549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The Welsh name is Llandrillo Yn Rhos. It's named after St Trillo. Rhos on sea was concocted for the tourist industry. There is no V in Welsh orthography BTW, so I believe its St Gofan.

When I watch you and Sherpa taking your walks, they remind me and make me miss where my husband and kids use to live from 1984-2004. Our property was several acres, which included 3 miles of woods where I would walk when my husband got off work and watched the kids, all 4 boys(5 boys when I would include my husband sometimes😊). For 3 years every evening when I would step outside for a while, the same coyote would come out of the woods and climb onto the boulder and just sit watching me. My husband did not want me to leave the patio while the coyote was sitting there, but I started going to the side yard off the patio and every few days I would move slowly closer until, to my husband’s discomfort, I was sitting at least 5 feet from the coyote and we would just watch each other . I was never afraid, not even when “my buddy” the coyote would raise it’s head and howl and then lay down on the boulder. The few times I was running late to be outside, the coyote would howl until I came outside also. The veterinarian saw the picture of me and “my buddy” that my husband took one time, and the vet verified that it was a coyote but also looked at me fearfully for sitting that close, but I told the vet that “my buddy” is more trustworthy and safer than most human beings.
