Ernest Ranglin and Monty Alexander are 2 of the most accomplished musicians from Jamaica. While I appreciate Monty Alexander more as a jazz musician than a reggae player, I just love how Ernest Ranglin shows the whole spectrum between jazz and reggae.
Yes sir, amen to that .... Sly & Robbie. Oh man, words can not express their talent. I saw them with Black Uhuru with Puma Jones years ago. Blew/opened my mind
Reggae was born out of ska, and ska is a form of jazz. It makes sense that the musicians of this art form are accomplished and capable of playing any style of music at the highest level. Sly, Robbie, Horsemouth, Spear, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Higgs, Petah, Bunny, Brother Bob, The Skatalites, it just goes on and on....what a legacy. Ire ites.......
i think i've watched this video like 10 times by now, rip to robbie, only after he passed had i realized he and sly were behind all of my favorite records i heard growing up. Trying to study his bass playing, he inspired me to learn. absolutely beautiful performance.
Monty Alexander has a great new Jamaican Jazz album out in August 2019. It's called "Wareika Hill Rastamonk Vibrations", and it centers around the music of Thelonius Monk in a Jamaican vibe, with mento, ska, jazz and reggae. Monty talks about the album here: reggae-steady-ska.com/monty-alexander-interview-wareika-hill-rastamonk-vibrations-album/

I love the way they play around with the rhythms on this! Mmmm... wonderful simple tune, everybody listening and interacting, great dialogue! :-) What's the jazz head they shoehorn in near the end over the tail of the bass solo... Moaning'? Work Song?
Kind Sir: (Guillaume Bougard) You stated back in 2011 that a DVD of the full concert was forthcoming later in the year. Cannot find any evidence of same, nor a CD available. Could you please point me in the right direction. Thank you. And Much Respect for making available some beautiful moments. W.L.Barlow

And then you add Sly and Robbie, who have played on or produced @200,000 songs. That is incredible
This is the greatest lineup any band could ever have.
Yes sir, amen to that .... Sly & Robbie. Oh man, words can not express their talent. I saw them with Black Uhuru with Puma Jones years ago. Blew/opened my mind

Ska has elements of American Jazz, but more so Mento and Calypso.
@@rachybaby72 Reggae came out of the blues and jazz . Mento and Calypso is in another lane.
@@jracerichards I'm Jamaican, so I know the difference between all three. Ska had elements of American Jazz...
@@rachybaby72 You said Ska had Mento and Calypso . No it did not.
They are treasure of Jamaica.
