For those who wondering why paul can cut the hydra with ease, it's because before he goes to the dungeon, he bought a sword from a merchant, the sword had a special attributes that can cut hard object like shells, iron, etc But in exchange it can't cut any soft object,so the merchant sold it with lower price because he didn't know the true value of that sword

to summerise: The hydra was too close, too big, too fast and it was throwing all it´s stumps around on top of that, his eye was showing him future versions of it´s movements Rudy couldn´t process anymore of what was even going on and had a mental blackout for a moment that is the one thing the anime did not a good job presenting to the viewer, leading a lot of people to believe Paul´s death was Rudy´s fault because he wasn´t paying attention anything else was top tier entertainment drama

he did not get distracted , the demon eye is actually shitty and does not give accurate precognition from time to time so rudy got confused and didn't see the last attack , and partly because he got a bit carefree because the fight was almost over.
he's mage even if he saw the movement, he cant react to it its elinali's fault because she's tanker but she's busy for other stuff So its fullly because this party's role composition sucks like too much mages previous fangs of the black wolf party composition was better Paul: main dps ghislaine: sub dps elinalize: tanker talhand: All-rounder but mostly rear to protect mages zenith: priest/mage geese: theft (non combatant, act as manager in non-combat related stuff) but this time instead of ghislaine, we got another mage + the enemy immune to long range magic more mages and less front role is really bad composition as only paul the only one pulling for the aggro meanwhile elinalize and talhand protecting mages. If its not because the regeneration, paul got chance to solo this hydra Paul is the GOAT

There was alot of time when rudeus can see the future but cant react to it. like the fight with the sword saint at the beast village when he throw the knife, orsted stabbing his chest, ruijerd saved him with his reaction but rudy couldnt react to the future that happen so fast

I somehow think the author just wants Rudy to feel miserable. Like saying "only a depressed Rudy is a good Rudy" And I definitely think they nerfed Rudeus like crazy. He should be much more capable than this by now, especially with his eye. Rudy should've known better not to get distracted, cuz he was an adventurer himself for many years. This has nothing to do with the dungeon itself. He has plenty of fight experiences. He has ass load of mana so he could probably look several tens of seconds in the future. So no in the fight he was not inexperienced, the hydra wasn't too fast since he could already saw them with foresight and even fought as a kid against the Orsted guy who is by far stronger than the hydra and even saw him ripping his stomach in foresight. In Mushoku Tensei Trauma has the plot armor basically.
