In the LN Rudues dont eat for 2 weeks... so Elinalise suggests that Rudy could be helped with sex. Roxy insists that Elinalise do this, but she understandably refuses because of Slyphie and Cliff. Geese suggests hiring a prostitute. After Roxy has gotten a lot of courage, she goes into Rudy's room and takes matters into her own hands. Rudy is nothing because everything comes back to him. In the LN it was described that he tries to eat something and then wants to wash it down with water, but then immediately vomits. So the situation was more than serious.

In the LN, Rudeus actually ends up on top, Roxy starts trying to talk him into it, and Rudeus finally caves. Full on collapse. He wakes up and thinks about how much he fucked up by cheating, and also comments that he was too rough with Roxy, saying he took out his frustrations on her. The whole tone of that bit was pretty different. The morning after, he also tells Roxy about a "fictional, made up" story that's basically just him talking about his past life, talking about a man who skipped out on his own parents' funeral, ended up being reborn in a new world, and asked what that man should do since he can't go back and make up for his actions.
I think they cut the past life stuff because while it's a cool character moment at this point to share this with Roxy it's also never brought up again.

They could have also skipped the dumb fight scenes on the way back and showed more of Roxy trying to help Rudeus or show the passage of time before they actually did the deed. (i understand his gaunt face is supposed to imply that but doesn't do it well imo) Without reading the books you would think that this was a day or 2 after Pauls death which makes it look even worse imo. They also skipped Elinalise's lie about Roxy being pregnant which imo adds more weight to Rudeus' decision to marry Roxy.

If it had been longer, then Paul and Geese wouldn't have commented on how fast they got to Rapan after sending the letter.

I completely agree this episode was bombed, they even altered the scene between Rudy and Roxy to make Roxy the aggressor. They def did a bad job with this one just read the LN.
12:24 For what is worth, in the LN, Rudy did say "Sylphie is your grandchildren, how can you tell me to do this to her", she replied with "Im the only one who can tell you this, im Sylphie's grandma, but i were Roxy's friend before that and i want both of them to be happy". She also told some stuff to Roxy to convince her to go into Rudy's bedroom and "help" him, she even doubled down when Rudy still didnt budge and told Rudy that in those weeks they were travelling, she didnt want to bring this up but, seems like Roxy missed her period. Only then Rudy snapped. Which the way she said that, its not even a sure thing and she might as well be bluffing, but it did make Rudy snap.
In Elinalise's defense, she's known Roxy for a lot longer than she knew Sylphy. So despite her being Sylphy's grandmother, she probably feels a lot more emotionally invested in Roxy's happiness.
And most importantly.... she was trying to help roxy because of her(elinalise's) past, she strongly believes roxy will live a miserable life if rudeus leaves roxy like that. And she said she knows someone like that, If you read the LN you know who she's talking about. “If you part on bad terms, I have no doubt she’ll lead a miserable life. It’s possible some dirtbag will take advantage of her, treat her terribly, and then sell her off as collateral for his unpaid loans, causing her to end up bearing the child of a man she doesn’t even know.” “Isn’t that going a bit too far?” I asked uncomfortably. “I know of a woman who led such a life.”

It's also artistic liberties on the anime's part to change things. The tone is way different, so I would say it's not even "cut content" to begin with.

I would say the anime is a different interpretation. As you said mostly everything is understandable and makes the narrative flow nicely regardless. There is only one thing I personally would consider "cut content" and that's Rudy meeting one of his relatives back in season 1.
Little sad thei cut of Elinalise and Roxy chat about how to help Ruseus, Elinalise knew that Rudeus needed something or someone to clear his mind cause he was on the werge of complete Depresion didn´t eat at all and talk to no one, Roxy was the only choise right now and agreed on that, cause Rudeus was not able to travel back. And let´s not forget Mushoku is highli inpired on mediaval era, having wife and concubines or mistreses was normal in that time, fun is even now some aprove it.
I just reread the chapter yesterday. There are a lot of people not realizing that Elinalise never suggested that Roxy sleep with Rudy. She just said that she could not. Key Points: 1. Elinalise’s Suggestion: Elinalise never suggested that Roxy sleep with Rudy, she just said that she could not. 2. Presence of Tallhand and Geese: Tallhand and Geese were both present for the conversation. When Elinalise said she couldn’t sleep with him, the only name suggested was Lilia. 3. Rudy’s Support: Upon rejecting this suggestion, they all agreed that Rudy would eventually/hopefully work it out, except for Roxy. Roxy was thinking about the past at this moment, and then the next thing you know, she's in his room, already with the idea in the back of her mind to sleep with Rudy. Dialogue from the Light Novel: • "Wh-whoa!" Her tiny body easily fell into my lap. Faces close, our eyes met Roxy’s looking sleepy, moist with tears. Her face was red, her lips drawn tightly shut. • "W-we can do it," Roxy stuttered. • "I-I mean, I heard that a man's heart feels lighter after he takes a woman to bed." • "That's right, I want you to help me forget." • "A-anyway, I may not look it, but I am quite experienced! So in conclusion: Although some details were cut, the essence of the scene remains the same. The adaptation aims to mitigate the huge reaction from Twitter, where some might claim Rudy forced himself on her.
1) I think it's just a different take on this scene. It lets the show focus more on Roxy and Rudy and less on the Elise manipulation. With things tweaked to make it more sincere between them and less "forceful." 2) It's shown how gaunt he is. The only thing missing was the sense of time.

And comes from a culture that doesn't put emphasis on requiring only one lover. It's not something that seems crazy to her, and is in fact not rare. The key part is just making sure everyone is consenting. Zenith wasn't a Milis follower, she was just upset that Paul did it suddenly and behind her back. I'm at least confident that if Paul had caught feelings, and talked it out with Zenith beforehand then it would have happened as well, just under a better context.

Even though she knew Paul would eventually break his word, she made him promise to not sleep with other women before she agreed to marry him _because_ she’s a follower of Millis. She was raised in the religion and still carries those beliefs, she just isn’t a _devout_ believer.

@@Halofreakanoid Yeah, you’ll see her Millis background more in later seasons. Zenith is one of the most interesting characters, partially because of her Millis background clashing with who she married, but also because of what’s wrong with her _now_ and everything that happens as a result of it.
“I realize I shouldn’t say it like this, but before I was Sylphie’s grandmother, I was Roxy’s close friend.” A line that wasn't included during Elinalise and Rudy's conversation that cemented how important Roxy was for her as well. Also in the LN, Elinalise tells Rudeus that in one of her drinking sesh with Roxy, she tells Elinalise that her monthly visitor has yet to come. This prompts Elinalise to ask "What would you do if Roxy was indeed pregnant with your child?", and Rudeus replies with "I'll marry her" without hesitation. Very different from what transpired in the anime, since they made it seem like Rudeus needed this much push from Elinalise to marry Roxy, while the LN showed that Rudeus is willing to own the responsibility he should bear as a father, just like Paul's predicament previously.
12:22 Remember Elinalise spent decades adventuring with Roxy (don't quote me on that but they definitely go way back) and has only known Sylphy for about a week. She has blood ties to Sylphy but Roxy is her bestie. Taking this logic a step further, Elinalise may be telling Rudeus to marry Roxy for purely selfish reasons, if Elinalise is now effectively settled down in Ranoa Kingdom with Cliff, she may as well trap Roxy there with her.
Cut content spoiler from the light novel about an important scene for context: Lis actually tells Roxy during the time when Rudy is very depressed that the only thing she could think of to snap him out that she could guarantee was a woman and she was unwilling to do it. At this point Roxy was well aware of ihim being married but also knew the level of his depression was so bad that he might actually not survive.
"Bro she married a Greyrat what would she expect?" Let's be real, Sylphie was expecting Rudy to have a second wife since she was 6 years old when she saw Paul cheat on Lillia. It also doesn't help when her closest colleague Luke N. Greyrat always shows up with different women hanging on his arms all the time.
Don’t forget, despite Rudy INSISTING he would be faithful to Sylphie and promised to her that he wouldn’t and didn’t need anyone else, Sylphie had said to him that she was okay with him taking on a concubine. I’m the LN specifically she said he could take a second wife as long as he brought her back to Sylphie first because she wouldn’t allow anyone to marry him unless they really loved him.

What happened with Paul was worse because he was hiding a long-term relationship from Zenith and he had promised Zenith to be monogamous since she was a follower of Millis, while this with Roxy was one-time and nobody involved follows Millis. (If in a polygamous society hiding == cheating.) Rudy DID promise Sylphie he would be faithful but Roxy actually did "take advantage" of him in a weakened state (for therapeutic reasons) so... (The Millis part here may be from Source discussion that I happened to see. I haven't read the source myself.) Apparently the novel depicted Rudy's state to be dire as he had not left his room or eaten for about a week. I heard that Roxy (knowing from his childhood that he would not be able to "man up" and work his way through) this decided to talk him out if she could and if not then use any means possible. Also, Paul married Zenith and cheated on her after he retired from adventuring, I think, so Elinalise wouldn't have witnessed that directly. She despised him for something else that we don't know.
I'm somewhat split on this honestly. And I say this as someone who read the LN a long time ago, wasn't bothered at all then, and still isn't too bothered now. You see, I don't want to make this comment too long (something I do much to often), but the crux of the issue is this - morals need to be absolute. To actually believe that morals exist, you need to believe them to be absolute, you need to believe that your values are the right values. This, among other things, clashes with undeniable reality that different times, different cultures and even different people believe in very different things. One can accept this and still believe in his values, most people do, but that's just because they are good at ignoring the implications of it, they don't bring their train of thought regarding this to its final, logical conclusion - that morals are not actually absolute. So while I can't find myself agreeing with people who apply their own values to stories that take place in a different setting than their own, or don't put themselves in the clothes of other people - I envy them, cause at least they believe in it. So, is it really funny that some of us can't do the same? P.S. I said I didn't want to make this comment too long, but in the I still did, and at the same time didn't even say a tenth of what would need to be said about this, but oh well, that's just how it is on youtube comments.) P.P.S. I just read your other comment, and while you make some good points, I think you're overeager in defending Rudy. He's not absolute scum as some people claim, but he's no saint, let's not excuse everything he does. Also just to quickly expound on Millis, you can see that Millis followers also do not follow your advice - that is, they still do expect people who don't follow Millis to be monogamous, and they still are disappointed when this doesn't hold true. Essentially, Millis followers too, in that world, apply their own standards to all other people, that is what people do, and it's not wrong.
from the LN they should have enough for 2 more seasons i believe also i read somewhere in an interview the author said he wouldn't have given his consent to adapt his LN as an anime if not for the full story so the chances are pretty good, there will be a 3rd season, at least i believe so :) minor spoiler : next episode pretty sure will have a turning point :)
I actually really liked this episode and they way they handled it; there's enough gray area on all sides where there's room for discussion. Rudy cheated on Sylphie, but given his mental state, it was understandable (remember justification and understanding are not the same). And on the flip side there's Roxy who...ok, I'm not going to sugarcoat it, she r*ped him; she forced herself on him in an emotionally vulnerable state where sound of mind consent wasn't possible. I get that it was the only thing anyone could have done to get Rudy out if that abyss he was in and it was in part selfless, but she already admitted to taking advantage of him, and for partially selfish reasons. It was a good episode, but it's still a fucked situation in general.
Nah, he could stop her on any point, being emotionally vulnerably not void consent, people are not responsible for other people being irresponsible or making bad decisions. You wouldn't be acquitted if you hit someone while driving drunk or in a bad emotinoal state, that's not how responsibility works. He could have said no, he could have turn his head away fromt he kiss, he could have pushed or held her back signaling to stop, etc. He also can use magic, so having one hand is not an excuse, and Roxy would have stopped without him needing to use force either way. Also in the LN he was much more active, and on top after he gave in her seduction. Roxy taking a blame afterwards from consideration, and as a strong front, they obviously both at fault.

True consent must be given when the person is of sound mind and Rudy was not given his mental state; Roxy forced herself on him and emotionally manipulated while he was emotionally vulnerable (whether she realized it or not). After the fact, yes Rudy is accountable, but during that moment, like with real life, "just saying no" and "pushing them away" are not always options and thinking as such is very naieve (as a general statement, not to you specifically). The anime canon and the light novel canon are completely different here. This discussion is on the events on the anime, therefore the events of the light novel are irrelevant.

In my eyes that is not valid consent from an ethical standpoint; consent via being emotionally manipulated is not actual consent. Roxy herself confessed that she took advantage of him at his lowest. I'm not saying that Rudy still doesn't have to take responsibility (cheating is cheating), never even implied that. What I am saying is that Roxy needs to as well. It's not just that she slept with someone knowing they had a wife, that is fucked up as well. I'm not arguing Rudy is an innocent victim here. But to say that Roxy wasn't just as bad doesn't sit right with me either when what she did was very serious and more than just infidelity. Consent or not, it doesn't change the fact that she took advantage of someone and manipulated them into sleeping with her. Were her intentions good? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that Roxy can't be blamed any less than Rudy and it seems that most of the internet is downplaying Roxy's side of things and not looking at Rudy's side of things from the actual context and just saying "Rudy being Rudy." I wonder if Sylphy having been exposed to the Paul/Zenith/Lilia situation while growing up is going to make this process smoother then it was with Zenith? In Rudy's defense, he really was about to die. The entire party was worried for him, to the point that they tried to convince Elinalise to sleep with him. When she said she couldn't because he's married to her granddaughter (which Roxy was there when she revealed this) they actually suggested Lilia as an option. Roxy then made up her mind to do what she could to save Rudy even if it meant sleeping with him.

In this instance, the LN makes it clear, he's not just mourning Paul, but his own parents from the original world too. The weight of his guilt over Paul's death and the death of his original parents decimated him. As a nurse I have seen people kill themselves literally by not eating (failure to thrive) and that is exactly what he was doing. It's easy to say well just eat or drink or pull yourself together, but that's just not feasible sometimes. That's what makes Rifujin's writing so great, it's real. I am one of the biggest Sylphie fans there is, but when reading this portion in the LN I realized that it was a feasible way to help shock him out of his death spiral.

Source-readers are already fuming about how supposedly this most important episode was 'butchered by removal of manipulation of Rudy' but not only I support that removal, I would like to see Rudy having more agency in his 'bad' decisions, making them on his own volition and pragmatically.
Well they cut his whole story he told her about his past life and the mistakes he made, and how in the story the man was put into a new world and he had asked her something along the lines of, what can he do to fix his mistakes.

It really only served as lesson for him or reminder of his origins to accept his flaws and past mistakes to move passed that and grow as a character rather than being a plot device that could alter the perception and relationship with the characters around him. As interesting as that detail was it doesn't really change the outcome if they follow the same direction and essence of the story of leaving behind the past and starting anew like in the LN.
Thinking about it a bit more, I'm actually insulted that author tried to pull 'fake pregnancy' storyline in the source. This is one of worst things a woman can do, and one actually tried to pull this on me when I was around Rudy's age. Roxy being associated with that, even unwittingly, is pure heresy. But what you said about him revealing his past life as metaphor is pretty cool and sounds realistic. At least I know I would say something like that.

After Roxy has gotten a lot of courage, she goes into Rudy's room and takes matters into her own hands.
Rudy is nothing because everything comes back to him. In the LN it was described that he tries to eat something and then wants to wash it down with water, but then immediately vomits. So the situation was more than serious.

In the LN, Rudeus actually ends up on top, Roxy starts trying to talk him into it, and Rudeus finally caves. Full on collapse. He wakes up and thinks about how much he fucked up by cheating, and also comments that he was too rough with Roxy, saying he took out his frustrations on her. The whole tone of that bit was pretty different. The morning after, he also tells Roxy about a "fictional, made up" story that's basically just him talking about his past life, talking about a man who skipped out on his own parents' funeral, ended up being reborn in a new world, and asked what that man should do since he can't go back and make up for his actions.
I think they cut the past life stuff because while it's a cool character moment at this point to share this with Roxy it's also never brought up again.

- Rudy brought the armadillo to the teleport circle along since he can fit inside the ruin.
- Rudy was quite confused, Elinalise as Sylphie's grandmother, proposed having Roxy as his wife, but she said before she was Sylphie's grandmother, she was Roxy's close friend.
- Elinalise further coerced Rudy by saying during their trip at Bazaar, Roxy's monthly visitor had not come, implying that Roxy might be pregnant, but that is not yet certain.
- Rudy said to Elinalise that he will marry her if that is the case to be responsible for it.

- Rudeus is the one that aggresively jumps on Roxy instead after several seduction attempts done by her and losing his control
- Skipped city of Bazaar moments during their 1 month stay there

I completely agree this episode was bombed, they even altered the scene between Rudy and Roxy to make Roxy the aggressor. They def did a bad job with this one just read the LN.

Which the way she said that, its not even a sure thing and she might as well be bluffing, but it did make Rudy snap.
In Elinalise's defense, she's known Roxy for a lot longer than she knew Sylphy. So despite her being Sylphy's grandmother, she probably feels a lot more emotionally invested in Roxy's happiness.

I would say the anime is a different interpretation. As you said mostly everything is understandable and makes the narrative flow nicely regardless. There is only one thing I personally would consider "cut content" and that's Rudy meeting one of his relatives back in season 1.
Little sad thei cut of Elinalise and Roxy chat about how to help Ruseus, Elinalise knew that Rudeus needed something or someone to clear his mind cause he was on the werge of complete Depresion didn´t eat at all and talk to no one, Roxy was the only choise right now and agreed on that, cause Rudeus was not able to travel back.
And let´s not forget Mushoku is highli inpired on mediaval era, having wife and concubines or mistreses was normal in that time, fun is even now some aprove it.
I just reread the chapter yesterday. There are a lot of people not realizing that Elinalise never suggested that Roxy sleep with Rudy. She just said that she could not.

So in conclusion: Although some details were cut, the essence of the scene remains the same. The adaptation aims to mitigate the huge reaction from Twitter, where some might claim Rudy forced himself on her.
1) I think it's just a different take on this scene. It lets the show focus more on Roxy and Rudy and less on the Elise manipulation. With things tweaked to make it more sincere between them and less "forceful."
2) It's shown how gaunt he is. The only thing missing was the sense of time.

The key part is just making sure everyone is consenting. Zenith wasn't a Milis follower, she was just upset that Paul did it suddenly and behind her back. I'm at least confident that if Paul had caught feelings, and talked it out with Zenith beforehand then it would have happened as well, just under a better context.

A line that wasn't included during Elinalise and Rudy's conversation that cemented how important Roxy was for her as well. Also in the LN, Elinalise tells Rudeus that in one of her drinking sesh with Roxy, she tells Elinalise that her monthly visitor has yet to come. This prompts Elinalise to ask "What would you do if Roxy was indeed pregnant with your child?", and Rudeus replies with "I'll marry her" without hesitation. (If in a polygamous society hiding == cheating.) Rudy DID promise Sylphie he would be faithful but Roxy actually did "take advantage" of him in a weakened state (for therapeutic reasons) so... Apparently the novel depicted Rudy's state to be dire as he had not left his room or eaten for about a week. I heard that Roxy (knowing from his childhood that he would not be able to "man up" and work his way through) this decided to talk him out if she could and if not then use any means possible.
Also, Paul married Zenith and cheated on her after he retired from adventuring, I think, so Elinalise wouldn't have witnessed that directly. She despised him for something else that we don't know.
I'm somewhat split on this honestly.
And I say this as someone who read the LN a long time ago, wasn't bothered at all then, and still isn't too bothered now.
You see, I don't want to make this comment too long (something I do much to often), but the crux of the issue is this - morals need to be absolute.
To actually believe that morals exist, you need to believe them to be absolute, you need to believe that your values are the right values.
This, among other things, clashes with undeniable reality that different times, different cultures and even different people believe in very different things.
One can accept this and still believe in his values, most people do, but that's just because they are good at ignoring the implications of it, they don't bring their train of thought regarding this to its final, logical conclusion - that morals are not actually absolute.
So while I can't find myself agreeing with people who apply their own values to stories that take place in a different setting than their own, or don't put themselves in the clothes of other people - I envy them, cause at least they believe in it.
So, is it really funny that some of us can't do the same?

Essentially, Millis followers too, in that world, apply their own standards to all other people, that is what people do, and it's not wrong.

I actually really liked this episode and they way they handled it; there's enough gray area on all sides where there's room for discussion. Rudy cheated on Sylphie, but given his mental state, it was understandable (remember justification and understanding are not the same). And on the flip side there's Roxy who...ok, I'm not going to sugarcoat it, she r*ped him; she forced herself on him in an emotionally vulnerable state where sound of mind consent wasn't possible. I get that it was the only thing anyone could have done to get Rudy out if that abyss he was in and it was in part selfless, but she already admitted to taking advantage of him, and for partially selfish reasons. It was a good episode, but it's still a fucked situation in general.
Nah, he could stop her on any point, being emotionally vulnerably not void consent, people are not responsible for other people being irresponsible or making bad decisions. You wouldn't be acquitted if you hit someone while driving drunk or in a bad emotinoal state, that's not how responsibility works. He could have said no, he could have turn his head away fromt he kiss, he could have pushed or held her back signaling to stop, etc. He also can use magic, so having one hand is not an excuse, and Roxy would have stopped without him needing to use force either way. Also in the LN he was much more active, and on top after he gave in her seduction. Roxy taking a blame afterwards from consideration, and as a strong front, they obviously both at fault.

The anime canon and the light novel canon are completely different here. This discussion is on the events on the anime, therefore the events of the light novel are irrelevant.

Not even emotional blackmail bc Roxy not even said yet that she loves him, she clearly intending to do this to comfort him and "share his pain", so Rudy have no reason thinking that their relationship depending on this as it 's not.

As much as it is for sure Rudy's fault for letting himself indulge despite his already existing family, I'm glad Roxy admitted to taking advantage of him. In Rudy's defense, he really was about to die. The entire party was worried for him, to the point that they tried to convince Elinalise to sleep with him. When she said she couldn't because he's married to her granddaughter (which Roxy was there when she revealed this) they actually suggested Lilia as an option. Roxy then made up her mind to do what she could to save Rudy even if it meant sleeping with him.

In this instance, the LN makes it clear, he's not just mourning Paul, but his own parents from the original world too. The weight of his guilt over Paul's death and the death of his original parents decimated him.
As a nurse I have seen people kill themselves literally by not eating (failure to thrive) and that is exactly what he was doing. It's easy to say well just eat or drink or pull yourself together, but that's just not feasible sometimes. That's what makes Rifujin's writing so great, it's real. I am one of the biggest Sylphie fans there is, but when reading this portion in the LN I realized that it was a feasible way to help shock him out of his death spiral.

It really only served as lesson for him or reminder of his origins to accept his flaws and past mistakes to move passed that and grow as a character rather than being a plot device that could alter the perception and relationship with the characters around him.
As interesting as that detail was it doesn't really change the outcome if they follow the same direction and essence of the story of leaving behind the past and starting anew like in the LN.
Thinking about it a bit more, I'm actually insulted that author tried to pull 'fake pregnancy' storyline in the source. This is one of worst things a woman can do, and one actually tried to pull this on me when I was around Rudy's age. Roxy being associated with that, even unwittingly, is pure heresy.
But what you said about him revealing his past life as metaphor is pretty cool and sounds realistic. At least I know I would say something like that.
